Azaleans rejoice!

Today, after teasing reports of a major signing here, Camp Iggy Azalea has confirmed that the the blonde bombshell has inked a deal with Mercury Records UK, securing a stable home for both she and her hotly anticipated debut album, ‘The New Classic’.

Exciting details below…

On the signing, the label’s President Jason Iley revealed:

“Iggy Azalea is exactly the kind of artist we are trying to sign at Mercury – incredibly exciting and forward-thinking. With her new songs, she will leap forward from her brilliant mixtape, whilst retaining what makes her so utterly unique. She is without doubt going to be a force to be reckoned with.”

Adding to this, her manager Sarah Stennett (of the highly sought after ‘Turn First’) explained:

“Iggy Azalea is one of a rare breed.. a superstar, with a strong sense of self and a unique talent. From the moment I met her the team and I were completely fascinated. She has an incredible story. It is a great pleasure for me to work with Iggy, T.I. who has helped developed her, and now Mercury Records. We have great confidence in Iggy’s future.”

If you could see the smiles on our faces.

As supporters of Iggy since 2011, news of her signing is no doubt the best news fans have gotten from her since she revealed she was to join Rita Ora‘s ‘Radioactive Tour’.

In saying that- and in keeping it all the way real- we’re not sure 2013 would be the right year for Iggy to drop her debut LP. Sound crazy?

We know-however, despite amassing a loyal following of die hard fans, she is yet to prove herself on a commercial front- yet to score a single Top 40 cut since her arrival.

While that doesn’t seem like such a big deal now, it will be if ‘Classic’ is released and is greeted by Kreayshawn esque  sales, causing considerable damage to Iggy’s hype and perceived value in a sales driven arena.

Here’s hoping this year sees her work on crafting and pushing releases that convince the public to not only enjoy her sound but purchase it. For, if she makes the mistake of releasing this album before establishing herself as an act who can ‘sell’, she may find herself becoming another entertainer who works well on paper- but does all of nothing on a commercial front.
