She’s just a girl and she’s on fire!  And, if tonight’s showing is anything to go by, that fire won’t be fading anytime soon.

As reported here, the 14-time Grammy winner was tapped to headline the NBA All Star Halftime Show and did not disappoint when she delivered a fiery 10 minute set featuring hits ‘New York’, ‘No One’, and, of course, ‘Girl On Fire’.

See A. Keys bring the heat below:

  3. BABY T February 17, 2013

It was great! I didn’t know Alicia can dance like that. But she is no Beyonce 🙂

  4. The People’s Champ February 17, 2013

Alopecia Offkeys needs to sit down somewhere. This performance was a mess. She should have lip synced.

  5. MUSEQUAL February 17, 2013

I’VE HONESTLY NEVER HEARD ALICIA KEYS SOUND SO OFF BEFORE IN MY LIFE. I’M AN AVID FAN, FROM THE DAYS WHEN “FALLIN” HAD JUST HIT RADIO, AND PEOPLE WERE STILL UNSURE OF WHO SHE WAS, AND I’VE FOLLOWED HER CAREER THOROUGHLY, AND AVIDLY, ATTENDED MULTIPLE TOURS, AND EVEN DID A PRESENTATION IN MY MUSIC HISTORY CLASS ABOUT HER. BUT THIS, THIS WAS DISAPPOINTING. THE NEW ALBUM IN GENERAL IS DISAPPOINTING. SHE’S LIMITED HER FAN BASE WITH THIS “GIRL ON FIRE” BID; US GUYS ARE NOT GOING TO PLAY THIS, LISTEN TO THIS, SING ALONG, OR CARE FOR THE SONG IN GENERAL. I CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE’S GOING DOWN THE MUSICAL PATH SHE’S DOWN NOW. TAKE A LESSON FROM MARIAH BEFORE A SHOW, DON’T TALK FOR A COUPLE DAYS, DON’T DRINK, AND USE A FEW HUMIDIFIERS…SO THAT EVEN IF YOUR EXCUSE IS YOU’RE SICK, YOU’D STILL MANAGE TO BANG IT OUT. AT LEAST SHE LOOKED GOOD?!

  6. Girrrl February 17, 2013

That girl sounded a f****** fool!

  7. King B>Rihanna February 17, 2013

    THAT WAS HORRIBLE!

  9. HoneychildPleae February 17, 2013

She tried she really did, but every time she come from behind that piano ohhhh no!

  10. HALF AMAZIN February 17, 2013

This was embarrassing and that’s all I’m gonna say

  11. Carlos Herrera February 17, 2013

She sound no good, not as well as always she do , but I’m pretty sure that she will be back with a better and great performance! regards from Peru.

  12. Sheila February 17, 2013

I love Alicia Keys and I am a FAN but that performance was horrible, I don’t know if it was her or what questlove said about the engineers, but it was just not great, the one thing I love about Alicia Keys fans is that they are brutally honest with her when she has a bad performance and it does not take away from her greatness, because that Grammy performance was greatness, and her Ellen Performance and all the others over the past few months, but tonight, now. anyway the haters will have their say and that is what they do, they live to hate, but it will not take away from Alicia Keys talent, when your fav starts singing, writing, producing, composing and playing instrumentts then talk to me

  13. Smurf February 17, 2013

Sounded a mess and wack dancing.
Just go take care of Egypt and spare us

  14. Sheila February 17, 2013

@musqual they are all allowed a bad performance every now and again, and the GOF album is an awesome timeless piece of work. GOF is actually the worst song on the album the other songs are jus lyrical genius. Hopefully GOF will be retired tonight and she can move on to Fire We Make, Brand New Me, Listen to your heart, thats when I knew and the rest of the great songs on the album

  15. HOL UP February 17, 2013

My girl alicia was lookin fierce and had hips for days but her voice was just off but hey everyone has their bad performances but for her its been to many recently idk whats goin on but she gotta fix it soon lol

  16. Anita February 17, 2013

It’s real easy for us to sit back and judge her, if she was good, if she was bad, but all that aside, there is no one more devoted to performing and art than Alicia Keys. I for one very much appreciate every performance she does and never want to see her just stop doing it. Any little imperfections just shows she was really singing and she was putting her entire soul into the performance as she does everytime. I for one appreciate that. I think she was amazing, even with a few little imperfections. She doesn’t have to be perfect, we still love her and enjoy every performance she blesses us with.

  17. Oceanmate February 17, 2013

    Voice aside “She jammed” tho

  18. TJMS February 18, 2013

OMG!! This was a HOT MESS! Chick has very limited vocal skills on her best day, but this was just horrific! She ALWAYS sounds hoarse and pitchy! Lord, and she has 14 Grammy’s??? WTF!!! I want to pee in a trash can when I hear her, she simply cannot sing. PERIOD!!!!

  19. NICK February 18, 2013

THAT WAS REALLYGOOD, sh was dancing, aiiite nahhhh

  20. Tika February 18, 2013

She sounded really bad at least at the beginning. Sounded like she didn’t know the words to her own song and was mumbling. Ain’t nobody got time to sit and wait and see if it gets better.

  21. Kyllaw February 18, 2013

I’m gonna need her to first, not dance second, stop smoking and for the sake of her next album, stop letting her hubby produce! Nothing wrong with trying new things but a pianist should stick with their piano. It never failed her before!

  22. Teacher February 18, 2013

Where’s that B**** @JohnDuvall or whatever the f*** HER name is?

  23. THE GREAT LACEFRONCE. February 18, 2013

    THIS H** IS TONE DEAF

  24. I.D. February 18, 2013

The hit song you’re referring to, I think, is ‘Empire State Of Mind’, not ‘New York’.

How can you slip and make such silly errors? It makes you look really unprofessional and uninformed.

  25. Aishaaguilerakeystesfaye February 18, 2013

That was a very energetic performance, I loved it ! Of course when it comes to vocals she was much better on Ellen, while here she was exhausted. But you see, that’s the pb with Alicia- she’s a good singer who promotes a lot ( Christina should be taking notes) and it wears out her voice, but she refuses to do playback. So in the end, all the stress and exhaustion can be heard when she performs. I watched this with awe and admiration, even though she’s not a dancer and was tired, she still managed to bust out a few moves and was energetic. The whole stage was on fire. Great job, Ms. Keys !

  26. Mark111 February 18, 2013

She did great. Love the dancing. Yes her voice is a lil damaged, but I think with lessons she can grow, I don’t think she’ll be able to sing like she used to, but can find a new tone and go from there. Love the album, it took me a while to get to it, I boight it today matter of fact. Haters are just that, they judge her voice when their fave is Ciara, Madonna or Britney Spears, unless you’re a Bey Stan, you have NO room to talk. People becoming critics instead of just enjoying the music, I’d say you’re just missing out on great music. I like Beyonce, Rihanna, Usher, JT, AK, Bruno, Ciara and others, there’s no need to down one for another, this isn’t sports. If you sit around and only buy one artist record, but bashes others, then you don’t have any ground to speak.

  27. King_N February 18, 2013

    Top!!! Love you alicia!

  28. jussaying February 18, 2013

    @sheila…

I didn’t think the perf was that bad, and I have no hate for Alicia Keys; I think she’s alright. HOWEVER, your last remark irked me. So she composes, writes, sings..etc. She does none of the above extraordinarily. She’s a Renaissance woman and that’s great, but her lyrics are trite and not at all deep and meaningful. (The songs of hers I like best were written by other people with more talent…John Mayer, Drake, Kanye…etc). For anyone who actually plays an instrument, her melodies aren’t in the least bit complicated or intricate (this is not to say she isn’t a good pianist, she is. But composing original music is not her specialty, especially since she borrows heavily from the Motown era). My point is, please do not list her activities as if her capability to do them elevates her above those who can’t or who don’t demonstrate their ability to play instruments like a crutch. (Amy Winehouse who was way more talented than Alicia Keys in her singing, writing, and her ability to play instruments hardly ever carried around her guitar or piano with her when she performed live.) It is great to have all these skill sets, but I’d rather be extraordinary in one concentrated field and be regarded the best, than to do a lot of other things in a mediocre manner which is what Alicia Keys does. Her saving grace is that she is extremely beautiful and she had the great luck to come onto the scene when mainstream R&B artists had gravitated away from playing live instruments and were more heavily focused on dancing. Had she come about now or even in the early 80s when you had more powerful well rounded artists, she’d have been a one hit wonder. Don’t get it twisted about YOUR fave. That aside, I didn’t think the performance was as bad as people made it out to be and I appreciate her efforts. ALSO, Beyonce’s Superbowl perf wasn’t all that either (for those that compare the two). She sounded off in the opening. What made it exciting was her costumes and all the special fx.

  29. RoyalKev February 18, 2013

Some of you are getting too much fulfillment out of beating up certain people regularly (Ciara, Christina, Alicia, Bey, etc). I’m not a huge A. Keys fan, but this wasn’t as bad as some of you are making it out to be. I thought that her dancing style actually complimented her. I’m glad she gave it a shot, it was interesting to watch. Her vocals weren’t in it’s best condition, but we can still cut her some slack. Alicia’s talented and she usually does a solid job. I do want her to retire GOF though! There’s much better material on the album! Overall her performance was kind of refreshing, she gave us something different this time and it did work for her in some ways.

  30. Arie February 18, 2013

I’m not gonna lie and say her singing was great but I will say that the performance was entertaining. I’ve always thought that her target market was a more matured audience but with this new era I feel like she is targeting the younger market, I could be wrong but if I am right I think she is making a mistake.

  31. Joy February 18, 2013

That b**** suckeddddd , && her dancing was so friken wack !! She should consider going single again because when she was single her performances were really good .. but that style she pulled out is definitely not her .. idk what she’s trying to do, but she needs to cut it out and be her normal self.

  32. Christina Aguilera February 18, 2013

I wish someone would grab a fire extinguisher and put the damn fire out. What an embarrassing vocal performance. My ears are still ringing!!!

  33. Jaiyah February 18, 2013

I heard there’s a rumor about Alicia is supposedly be pregnant again. I read it on Sandra Rose, so I don’t know how true it is or not.

  34. Sava February 18, 2013

I just wasted 10 minutes and 7 seconds of my life… *sips pepsi and resumes Beyonce: Life Is But A Dream”*

  35. mobwife: crackin’ skulls & breakin’ ankles February 18, 2013

    OMG THIS WAS HORIBLE!

Alicia Keys lost her voice with the birth of he son Egypt! Anita Baker discussed experiencing a similar loss when she gave birth to her 1st job. Luckily for me as a fan her voice came back after the birth of her 2nd child. Alicia sounds horrible. I cannot believe they could not find a better performer for the NBA Halftime show! smh

  36. JOHNVIDAL February 18, 2013

The vocals were a total mess. But she sounded very good just a couple of days ago on Ellen. She´s obviously overworking her instrument. She´s like the only artist out there who ALWAYS sings live her whole songs and the promo has been epic for the last 6 months. It´s normal this is happening. To be honest I just have respect for that. If she were just a singer who is given the songs she must sing by her label (and those songs were generic as you all know who), then I could go in, but she is a real artist, and her voice is not the best thing about her
The album keeps being one of 2012´s bests. And she´s also killing it with the fashion this era. I´ll just forever respect real talent and real music
Her throat was sure hurting but she still had such a great attitude on stage as always. Even is she looses it right now and retires, she can say she was the biggest and most R&B act of the 00´s decade, several #1 albums and some timeless songs, etc
I agree with @royalkev. The hate is out of control. Sad creatures

ps: tomorrow Mariah carey debuts her new song for Disney´s upcoming blockbuster. Can´t wait 🙂

  37. lostone February 18, 2013

i enjot everythin about her show..it was live singing , full of energy and she was so out of element which makes it even better…i love the fact she leavin her piano behind now!!

  38. Casual February 18, 2013

I like Alicia, but she needs to work with a vocal coach. I heard cord strain and shallow breath support.

  39. ASIPOFBRANDY February 18, 2013

Alicia Keys REALLY needs to call “MAMA JAN”” (Usher, Justin Beiber, Tamar) cause them vocals was not it hunty. I was cringing just watchin that ish! This performance right here was equivalent to the NBA’s DUNK constest! HELL 2 THE NAW!! (in my Whitney Houston voice)

  40. Dev February 19, 2013

Why she started off singing New York state of mind when she wasn’t in New York confused me for a start…. and i use the words singing loosely.

She sounded as if smokes 50 a day and has emphysema! The moment she stepped from behind the piano to preform those high school musical/glee/sister act dance moves with her best urban “i’m down” face on it was all over for me.
Mrs Keys, all kinda seats in various materials and fabric are waiting for you backstage. Choose and get comfortable, cause i need you not to get up for a while.

  41. the one March 12, 2013

Interesting that anytime someone doesnt like something they have to be a hater. Maybe she just sucks in their opinion. She clearly botched this performance and she cant dance. Anyone at her level shouldnt have these kinds of bad performances. If you cant dance then dont dance! And you should know the tricks of the trade to keep that voice on the one for all performances. No excuses people!

    • Sonya May 22, 2013

There are a lot of other names I could think of to call people like you. Hater is just one of the more kind ones. Alicia can dance and she can definitely sing. So one performance wasn’t so grand. I personally don’t care. She has proved herself many times and no one can be perfect always. I appreciate her realness and the fact she always gives every performance her all. No lip syncing and no autotune. Gotta love the “girl on fire”. There will never be “no one” like her. She gave an amazing performance as always and I’m extremely proud of her every time.
