Embracing his global superstar status, Justin Timberlake dished up a taste of ‘The 20/20 Experience’ at the BRIT Awards 2013 in London tonight.
Resting lead single ‘Suit & Tie’ on the bench for a night, the former NSync’er instead performed ‘Mirrors’.
How did JT fare? Answer awaits after the jump…
Sam’s 2 Pence:
There’s no doubt JT brings a brand of “excitement” that’s been largely missing from the output of many male performers. As such, it was super surprising that his showcase tonight was so dry.
With such epic staging and a solid song to boot, his performance had all the ingredients to make a Big Mac, yet instead served up a Happy Meal.
Hype can only carry a project so far, so we hope Justin sips on whatever he had before his Grammy performance for future showings.
‘The 20/20 Experience’ hits stores on March 19th in the US and a day earlier in the UK.
I liked the song by the end of the performance! Sounded good as well
“STAY” is #3 on BB Hot 100….Happy BDay Rihanna!
While I agree, he’s had better performances, I don’t think it’s fair to call it “dry” or a “happy meal”. It’s not easy to stand up in front of THAT many people and deliver a performance. His vocals were on point, which you can’t really say about a lot of singers out at the moment.
To be perfectly honest and in my personal opinion, this “Suit & Tie” gimmick he has going on just seems beyond forced and, quite frankly, he doesn’t exude a ‘natural’ debonair demeanour so it all just seems ‘highly’ pretentious and calculated. The hair IS NOT helping either. The ‘Urban Justin’ is what the masses want.
On the other hand, ‘Mirrors’ is just, put simply, a complete 2013 re-hash of ‘Cry Me a River’ and ‘My Love’ moulded into one. Both ‘Suit & Tie’ and ‘Mirrors’ are un-inspiring. I don’t know what happened tonight… Through all the ‘confident-swagger’ he was trying to exude on stage, he just appeared weak and tired.
COME ON J.T – You’re better than this. I’ll still be buying your album though… I believe in your Talent!!!
How did Sam want Justin to perform this song if not the way he did? It´s a song that demands constant vocals so he can´t dance (cos no, nobody can dance and sing at the same time, sorry beyonce fans, at least if you have to sing without breaks). I think he did good and the song sounded good live, I thought it was going to sound worse when performed live
I love it, that’s my jam at the moment.
IT WAS OKAY!
I loved the way he performed the song. JT has never had a bad performance.
@Juelz
How is Mirrors a re-hash of My Love and Cry Me A River, two songs with contradicting lyrics? Do you mean production wise? Even then they sound nothing alike.
to Make it Short and Simple :
I Luv “Mirror” but it is Not FRESH and sound Like his Old Songs WHICH is a Good Thing for his Post 2007 Fans.
I Forgot about “Suit&Tie” the moment i heard “Mirrors” for the first Time , i don’t know if that’s a bad thing or not , but that song gotta go now.
I do Not Like , Digest or Approve that Hair , Get’s a Big fat “NO” from me , if i want the whole thing , it is easy to be a fan of robin Thicke you know and i believe Robin’s Swag and Style” including that Hair” works better On HIM than on J.T , and that’s is my personal opinion.
about the Performance :
Mirrors : Trying so f*****’ hard that it hurt me to witness it , that BLACK Backup singer man behind him SAVED the f*****’ day at points.
he did good at the finishing tho.
2.5/5
Side Note : Why they gave him That kind of Mic tho ? like he carried it all the way and s*** , who got time for that in 2013 ?

Thank God We Have USHER.
Right?! I really wanted to like Suit and Tie, but come on, it’s subpar, and I don’t like that shade Samantha is throwing at Usher. The comparisons between them is ridiculous, they are both talented but Usher wins this hands down, Climax just slays my life each time I listen to it, there’s no way in hell Justin could pull something off like that.
His so called “dry” performance was still better then most of the male artists’. While I agree this performance lacked, lets not forget that he just came back unto the scene. Hell, even Beyonce didn’t sound her absolute best when she returned to the stage after a year break.
The performance was still good.
Give him a break and some time -_-
Jumping from one song to the next and rushing the entire project will cut the life of his album very short.
Although Justin has matured physically his voice hasn’t. Although i think the song sounds
dated (but slightly better with the live instruments) i’m finding the two singles lackluster also, and i think he’s too old to be coming out with an image
I agree, it’s not JT’s best performance, but it was still better than so many artists’ best performances.
Maybe a little choreography could have make it better. But I still enjoyed it.
I loved the performance and the song and Justin’s vocals were awesome.
The black male back up singer really stood out too. He is fabulous.
