Despite the drama used to launch it, this season American Idol has rightfully seen talent at the forefront.
One of the most noted among this year’s hopefuls is Candice Glover, who tackled judge Mariah Carey‘s now-classic duet with Whitney Houston ‘When You Believe’ on last night’s episode.
And while Mimi songs are notoriously difficult to sing (sometimes even for Mariah herself), not only did Glover hold her own, she earned a standing ovation from the entire panel and left legend Mariah in tears.
The “moment” also saw the iciness between Nicki Minaj and Mimi melt (if only for a minute), with the Young Money star gushing about what the song and divas like Mariah and Whitney mean to her.

Anyone who visits TGJ on the regular knows how much we love our divas (and how much we “expect” from those laying claim to the name), as such it’s fair to say that Glover’s rendition wasn’t a patch on the original.
That said, it was indeed a stellar performance; one which Glover made her own, while still displaying some of the horsepower that made the original such so epic.
As such, like the judges, we are giving her one of these…

The contestant sang well but the thing is she lacks a unique sweet tone….her voice is forgettable…she would be a great back up singer.

Clearly based on your AVI, you have no ear for music. Candice is a skilled vocalist who can do whatever she wants with her voice. She has given us pop, r&b, rock and all on key, with melody, power & grace notes. To those who like real music she is the real deal and unforgettable.

It was nice to see Mariah and Nicki at least correspond last night and look at each other to say the least.
And when Nicki made her comments Mariah even looked to her and say that was sweet. Even Amber’s Without You performance was panned by Nicki because she just thought it couldn’t touch the Mariah version – especially the lower register section.
I just think the whole “confrontation” got out of hand and I don’t really think they dislike each other but had to hold their ground for the public. I think they were both wrong and I feel an apology coming!

I actually think the “conversation” was had with them by the powers that be. To just sit there and ignore each other was killing the energy on the panel. I thought the auditions prior to the day of the incident was hella funny with their interaction. I just think one day someone took something too personal or people started getting into Nicki’s head I think – even before she got there!
So as Jimmy said it was really nice to see them interact…5 seconds of bikering made the whole thing so much better and then Nicki showing so much respect after the Without You performance and again after the When you Believe performance.

Candice is an awesome singer. I saw her performances on YouTube. I don’t see her making it big if she wins though 🙁 actually, I don’t see any of the contestants making it big….
I think Kree is probably the only one with any possible success story!
Country music will accept her with open arms the way they did Carrie Underwood, Kelly Pickler and even Scottie won best new artist this year at the CMA’s.
I really don’t know where Candice fits in honestly. The music industry isn’t what it was. she has alot to do imagewise as well. Get that weight down etc.

I love Candice, she’s one of the best singers to ever compete on the show, but this rendition of WYB wasn’t so spectacular to me. I actually preferred the other tune she sung last night over this one. It doesn’t matter because she’s always very consistent. Anyone could get a pass if they fail to capture the epicness of Whitney & Mariah’s duet! Also Kudos to Nicki for showing Mimi love! I think that was very mature of her!

One of the few times I agree with Sam: this particular performance wasn´t that good. This girl Candice has been killing it in the last weeks, many amazing renditions. But maybe this was just another proof of how above any other girl who tries Whitney´s and Mariah´s voices are. They have got everything, like no other who came after them

I love Nicki comments, she was sincere, you know, she even looks pretty here, despite all the things people has say to her on the whole Mariah feud, she remains in her firm position, (I’m not gonna apologize, just because i got offended by a Legend and i was supposed to remain in silent.).
