Farewell ‘Unapologetic‘, for you’re soon to be replaced.
That’s right, six months after scoring her first number one LP with the project, Pop life force Rihanna is on the lookout for new material to craft her eighth studio album.

In an interview with ‘The Source‘, Grammy winning producer Darkchild revealed:
“I am working with Mariah, I am working with Jennifer Lopez. I just finished a couple songs with Jessie J over in London and I also wrote a couple of songs that are being considered for Rihanna’s new album, so there’s a lot of good stuff happening so we’ll see.”
Not surprising considering this sees the star follow the ‘six month per era’ trend she adopted following ‘Loud‘, news of her new album comes as sales for ‘Unapologetic’ edge nearer to the 3 million units sold worldwide mark.
Of course, while confirmation of this new project may shock those who support acts who truly care for music, Rihanna‘s ‘smash and dash’ approach to making LPs isn’t all that strange when one remembers how that music is made.
They write. She records. She tours. They write. She records. She releases….they make bank.
On the flip side, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t curious about what the new release will serve up…especially if its era serves sounds and videos akin to the below…

Firstly. def jam is known in the industry for inflating sales by asking retailers to scan cds multiple times so her album sales are what her PR team wants you to believe. plus alot of the songs on rihanna’s album are stolen copyrights. she has quite few lawsuits. Rihanna’s albums are very expensive to make and market. That 777 tour was an extremely costly way of creating hype. In terms of return on investment, rihanna is not doing well hence def jam organizing songwriters for this new cd to make up for losses incurred for this current album
Oh God how do you know this? What company continues to push an act this damn long for 7 years straight without seeing a return? That doesn’t even make a bit of you know what! If this was the case wouldn’t they have said enough is enough already and drop the girl? They could easily just sign a new artist or try the same formula on someone else? She has grown a huge fanbase all over the world and is probably one of the most talked about music star’s right now, so I think it’s safe to say she’s secured her spot.
Making hits doesnt secure yourself a spot. Gimmicks are not exactly that hard to re-create.

Well I agree to a certain extent but I also feel as if there may be more pressure today in the industry. Years ago when albums actually sold well, a lot of artists didn’t have to worry too much about being dropped but now that most people don’t spend money anymore on CD’s, it makes it hard on artists, especially newcomers because they have to prove they are marketable to their label. Now we have social media and gossip sites which can damn near ruin reputations and their careers since the rumors spread like wildfire. Also, looks are becoming more important, as when an artist lets themself go they are crucified. Age is also a big factor, nowadays the young kids are dominating the music charts, years ago, a lot of woman would be singing well into their 40’s and would still be successful.
There is also the pressure to “sellout”. As we see, not all genres are receiving the same treatment. Having to prove to your label that you could be successful singing something that’s not considered mainstream like bubblegum pop today could be a tough task and not everybody will make it.
Artists of today and the past both had a lot of pressures, rhey’re just different.

Rihanna has a way of picking hits, and building interest in the cd. Part of the problem is, as soon as the cd is out and the ‘hits’ are flooded.. people are bored. They want something new. In a way she did this to herself.

For the people saying ‘she’s young, she doesn’t need a break – she likes to work – what’s wrong with her working’. Let me break this down.
Being a singer/popster isn’t a 9-5, COUNTLESS singers have said this over the years. During the busy season you could be working near 24 hours with just 1-2 hour breaks to sleep. During the non busy season you could still be pulling down 10 hrs of work a day.
Rihanna has been working non stop for 7 years now.
You really think there are no consequences to that because she’s young?
Then add in the physical exertion and how she’s damaging her own body. Look at Chris Brown’s singing at Billboard and pretend this s*** don’t have consequences. Girl is BARELY doing half as much as her competitors and without steady releases and touring her albums don’t sell. That’s one reason she did so much better in the UK than the US because she was actually doing promo there.

She does not have to work as hard as the other divas. while she plays karaoke, others like Lady GAGA actually write there songs, dance and play instruments as well as have meaningful content. It is easier to be the bad girl rihanna is especially while having things written for you. With that being said y’all can hate all you want but as for me I can’t wait for the new album!

I don’t understand why everyone’s saying “She needs to take a break” and “She releases too many albums”. What’s wrong with that? If anything, it just shows that she is more dedicated to her music than many other artists and wants to give her fans something fresh. In my opinion, the more the better! And the claims made above about Rihanna not writing any of her music? Take a look at her track info in her album booklets, she co-writes on many of her songs!
