New Song: Kelly Rowland – ‘Dirty Laundry’

Published: Wednesday 15th May 2013 by Sam

It’s here!

Kelly Rowland‘s explosive new single ‘Dirty Laundry’ premiered on Power 105.1 moments ago and quite literally must be heard to be believed.

Penned by The-Dream, the narrative driven cut brings a new meaning to the title of its parent album ‘Talk A Good Game’.

Musically cinematic, the track sees the 32-year-old wax honest about an abusive relationship, Beyonce, and much more.

Wow! Now that we’ve picked our jaws off the floor…

An unconventional “single” if we’ve ever heard one, the haunting cut is exactly what Kelly needed, yet more so what the industry needs.

All too often acts tell anyone who’ll listen that (insert song) is their most honest to date, only for it to contain 4 words repeated in a different order. However, with ‘Laundry‘ Rowland does one better – and actually follows through.

The sparse production boasts shades of R. Kelly’s ‘Down Low / Double Life’, and creates the soundest of foundations for what is, in essence, a lyrical testimony.

Despite her own solo success, Rowland is routinely (and somewhat disrespectfully) pelted with the “Beyonce” questions; hence what better way to address the media’s demand for drama than addressing it head-on? Add to this, the shocking tale of abuse and the desire to know who “Kelly Rowland” really is and what her experiences have been is fulfilled in earnest.

Again, not the most obvious of singles. Yet, it’s this very fact (along with the song’s clever wordplay and shock factor) that should see this a fixture on radio. Indeed, it demands many a play to really “get” the magnitude of what’s been relayed — a great look given the fast-approaching release of its parent album on June 18th. Kudos Kelly, kudos.
