Robin Thicke Welcomes First #1 Single With ‘Blurred Lines’

Published: Wednesday 12th Jun 2013 by David

…and Robin Thicke‘s winning streak continues!

After watching the cut soar to #1 in the UK this past Sunday, Robin has seen his brand new single ‘Blurred Lines’ enjoy the same fate in the far more competitive market, the US.

Good news below!

Marking his #1 in the country, Thicke‘s ‘Lines’ jumped from #6 to #1- surpassing sales of 1 million units while nabbing Pharrell his fourth #1 atop the Billboard Hot 100.

In what can only serve as the perfect platform for the success of its supporting album, the single’s chart win follows a string of R&B hits scored by the ‘Shakin’ It For Daddy‘ singer, whose ‘Sex Therapy‘ peaked at #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart back in 2010.

Congratulations!

Yet Fine China & How Many Drinks are flopping the whites can really sell r&b theses days…

    Congratulations tho…

    • Navy Sailor June 12, 2013

Blurred Lines is a better song than both of them though….

      • Bow Down June 12, 2013

yea it sure is since a white person singing it huh

      • Charlie June 12, 2013

Sorry but Blurred lines is not better than How Many Drinks…

      • Bow Down June 12, 2013

        ^^ Exactly!

      • BitchICan’tEvenSpellWelfare June 12, 2013

Been a fan of Robin Thicke since his debut album when he was just called “Thicke.” I own ALL of his albums.

With that said, “Blurred Lines” is no.where.close. to being as good as “How Many Drinks?”

In fact, Robin has WAY BETTER songs than this one. “BL” is Robin Thicke-lite.

        Congrats to him tho!

      • Navy Sailor June 12, 2013

HMD is not that freaking hot. Adorn & Do You are MUCH better songs. BL is much better like I said 🙂

BTW: Robin may be white, but this is his first commercial smash after how many years?

      • CBE June 12, 2013

U somking crack, this is industry politics…u wouldnt know coz you are basic, just judging by sales, popularity.

      • Navy Sailor June 12, 2013

If its industry politics, why didn’t any of Robins other songs smash outside out of the R&B charts? BL isn’t even a pop song per se. It’s more R&B/funk/soul with pop elements (chords and stuff)… it DOES sample a Marvin Gaye song. It’s a fun, feel good, throwback party song. It probably would’ve smashed if Usher or Miguel sang it too. Get over it!!! 🙄

      • Grande The Way June 12, 2013

Fine China is trash and Miguel has been paying How Many Drinks dust. He’s still performing Adorn You at award shows. Plus that songs not even that hot. Stop using the race card as an excuse to their misfortune. Robin has been playing his cards right with this song(see The Voice performance that catapulted this song). And like someone already said, if it had to do with race why weren’t any of his other singles #1? Why didn’t Donnie Klang from Making the Band ever have a hit?

    • Bow Down to Good Music! June 12, 2013

Well Fine China is terrible and How Many Drinks isn’t that great in comparison to Blurred Lines. Maybe all people, of all races just know good music and you don’t. They might get to #1 eventually anyway. Why make it a race thing.

      • HoneyB June 13, 2013

i think Lynn is on crack now

    • danny b June 12, 2013

Fine China sounds too much like an MJ rip off, like Chris is trying too har
And maybe if Miguel would leave Adorn in 2012 and start promoting his her singles, like How Many Drinks, then maybe he might get a chart topper.

So very happy for Robin. Been rooting for him since his debut.

      • danny b June 12, 2013

        *other singles, not her

    • JoJo June 12, 2013

You make it sound like he has countless #1’s. The reason why fine china & how many drinks are flopping is because there s***

    • TruthSpeaker June 13, 2013

“the whites can really sell r&b theses days ”

stfu seed. didn’t you read the article? 1st #1 single.. FIRST! Yea, he’s really selling R&B after being in the biz as long as he has…. Thats why i don’t understand why some compare JT’s work to him. Thicke wasn’t & still isn’t the original and JT celebrated his first #1 single way back before the majority of the stans on this damn site were even born…. SUCK ON DAT

  2. King B>Rihanna June 12, 2013

    Congratulations

  3. RiRi Bad June 12, 2013

Congrats Daddy 😉 All 3 of them dudes can get it they s***

  4. Navy Sailor June 12, 2013

    Yaaayyyy happy for him

  5. S****** Blonde June 12, 2013

    He is so hot.

  6. iola June 12, 2013

Im deeply saddened he took the pop way out..This isn’t R&B BTW.congrats though

  7. lalala June 12, 2013

Felt the number one since I first heard it it’s so groovy!

  8. pat June 12, 2013

Justin stealing his swag actually worked in his favor. Got white people to actually pay attention to him.

    • BubblePopElectric June 15, 2013

Umm… No! Robin Thicke didn’t even come out until 2003 and didn’t become successful until “Lost Without You” in 2007 AFTER he got off that damn bike, cut his long hippy hair, dressed more mature and adopted a more mature R&B sound via Pharrel to match his voice during “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” era of late 2006/early 2007.

Whereas, musically-speaking, Justin Timberlake Has Been PRIMARILY Making Blue Eyed Pop/Soul/R&B Music Since 2002’s “JUSTIFIED” & had been working with Pharrel to give N’Sync a more urban sound since “GIRLFRIEND” on N’sync’s “CELEBRITY” album of 2001. Aesthetically speaking, Justin adopted a shorter hair cut in 2001and began donning Suits + Ties months prior to “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” during the entire “FutureSex/LoveSounds” era which began in the Summer of 2006.

In conclusion, I love them both (or else I wouldn’t have commented or known so much about Robin’s background) but it would appear that Robin Thicke has made quite the career out of mimicking JT’s moves and not the other way around.

  9. Charlie June 12, 2013

Three things about that Shaking it for Daddy clip
    1 The song is crap
    2 Nikki was black
3 He really should refrain from dancing or any kinda dance like movements

  10. Strange Fruit June 12, 2013

Um no….this song is so wack!!!!
This is the least coherent than anything he has released and one of the worse pharrell has produced…

    • FAF June 12, 2013

I agree. “You the hottest b-tch in this place?” really? on an r&b song ? It’s annoying.

his other music is wayy better and deserved to be #1 but that’s proof that saturation will put u at #1 bc they play it out on the radio and XM too

      • BitchICan’tEvenSpellWelfare June 12, 2013

@Strange Fruit & @FAF, I totally agree with both of you. This is one of his worst songs, yet THIS is the one to go #1???

Dumb your art down, over-saturate the air waves, and voilà!

& I say this as a huge fan of Robin.

      • Navy Sailor June 12, 2013

Well this IS the most commercial song he’s ever released…. I guess he’s aiming for commercial success this time around. Can you really blame him?

  11. JuanR June 12, 2013

    I like the song!
    Good for him!

  12. Casual June 12, 2013

Hot damn! Just charged 6-1 without spending the usual 4-5 weeks competing in the Top 5?!!!!

    Congrats, man.

  13. Yeah I Said It June 12, 2013

    My song right now

  14. King June 12, 2013

I hate being negative because I love the song but it saddens me that this song could go number 1 by a white artist but if a black artist sung the song, the song would stall on the charts.

  15. mc the place to be! June 12, 2013

what ryhmes with hug me “Hey hey hey hey”

  16. dee June 12, 2013

  22. JER June 13, 2013
