Cop a gander at ‘Hot & Cold’ hitmaker Katy Perry heating up the latest issue of Billboard magazine. Before undoubtedly revving up the massive promo machine that will accompany her newest album ‘Prism’ (October 22), the songstress revved up her faithful #Katycats last month for their input on her next single.
With the Juicy J-assisted tune ‘Dark Horse’ quickly walking away with the victory over its ‘Walking On Air’ competitor, fans were sure it would be given the video treatment.
But, despite the song making a handsome top 20 debut on the Hot 100 this week (with virtually no promo), it appears Perry & team have dashed in another direction for the ‘Prism’s follow-up pick.
Tuck in below to see one more snap from the Billboard mag cover, read excerpts from the interview, and find out what the singer’s next single will be…
New single: “Unconditionally”
Billboard Magazine (excerpts):
On Barbara Walters “shading” her for being late to an interview:
“When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, ‘You know, I’ve only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?’ I was like, ‘Oh, snap! Yes, bitch!’ I think it’s the coolest thing that Barbara Walters shaded me. I just couldn’t tell her as we were sitting down for a mega-interview, ‘Hey, my marriage is falling apart. Give me a break.'”
On Teenage Dream vs. Prism:
“I didn’t want to do Teenage Dream 2.0,” she says. “Teenage Dream was highly conceptual, super-pop art. “PRISM” is more organic, au naturale, vulnerable and honest, but still has the same amount of fun.”
“I wanted to make a song that was like what Mariah Carey would have put on her first record,” Perry says.
