Despite quite the competition on the digital front from acts like Lorde and ‘SMS’ co-star Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus extends her reign above the Billboard Hot 100 with her latest single ‘Wrecking Ball’ – her first #1 on the tally.
But, if the moves made by Katy Perry‘s former chart champion ‘Roar’ and newest tune ‘Dark Horse’ are any indication, Cyrus’ ride at the top may be short-lived…
“Miley Cyrus holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Wrecking Ball.” The song wins a close race with Katy Perry’s former two-week topper “Roar”. Lorde…remains at No. 3 on the Hot 100.
“Ball” drops 1-3 on Digital Songs with a 36% fall to 301,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan; last week, it rocketed 10-1 with 477,000, a 312% rise.
While it reigns for a second frame, “Ball” deflates by 50% in overall Hot 100 chart points. As Perry’s “Roar” (2-2) is down by 8%, the songs are separated by just 2% in points. Last week, “Ball” boasted an almost two-to-one points lead.”
“Perry additionally debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 17 with “Dark Horse” (featuring Juicy J), a preview song from her album “Prism,” due Oct. 22. It begins on Digital Songs at No. 4 (194,000).”
