Last week Eminem & Rihanna scared away the competition with their ‘Monster’ debut on Billboard Hot 100.
Alas, their roar – nor the ‘Roar’ of a certain Katy Perry – has managed to frighten the likes of Billboard champion Lorde as her breakaway hit ‘Royals’ claims the throne for its 8th week.
But, as the gap between ‘Monster’ and ‘Royals’ closes, there are others newcomers on the prowl for the top seat as well. Cue Lady Gaga…

Rihanna really should thank half of the men in the industry for half of the #1´s she has. Really unfair. She has some hits of her own, but really, singles after Stay are flopping and nobody was caring (not saying that she should have more than 2 successful singles from one album, that´s enough) but of course here is Eminem again to give her another possible #1. In how many songs has she been a featured artist? Not that she contributes to the songs when she is the only singer in the song either, but at least it makes it kind of fair. But all these features really saved her career from looking below average, now it looks average at least 🙂 Without all this she would be on Katy Perry´s level of hit singles.
Anyway, happy that someone so young and talented and with a really different song is unexpectedly slaying like this. Go Lorde!

Good for Lorde! Slaying the charts at 17 with an alternative/indie song! It will be interesting to see if she is able to score any other hits. As for Rihanna, I think it’s silly to say that she is piggy-backing off of Eminem and other guys who have featured her. Oftentimes it is THEM who seek her out because they know her voice can SLAY a hook. The Monster has an infectious hook that Rihanna murders. Not many people have that ability. Her hooks are what people latch onto in the songs and what they remember most about them. Sooo….you shouldn’t trivialize that fact.
