As proud purveyors of Pop, we love us some Spice Girls. Indeed, who doesn’t?
Yet, there comes a time when an artist is tasked with realizing that their commercial run has wrapped. Call it a “transition”, if you will.
Unfortunately for Spice’s Geri Halliwell, the memo hasn’t landed on her lap or, worse still, is being flat-out ignored.
Case, point, the 41-year-old’s performance of the group’s debut single ‘Wannabe’ on Australia’s Got Talent last night. The irony in the song choice and the fact Halliwell actually judges on the show is priceless.
See what we mean after the jump…
Goodness gracious…she sounded like sandpaper.
The saddest part is that this is not news to anyone; the Spice Girls were not vocalists and ultimately were accepted for what they were at the time – potent Pop stars.
However, what Halliwell fails to understand is that there was a reason for her season and that both the reason and season have long passed.
She needn’t look further than the sales of her latest single ‘Half Of Me’, which sold less than 400 copies upon release last week.
The upside is that enough power remains in “Brand Spice” for Geri, like the Victoria Beckham‘s of the world, to take up another hustle and be successful with it. Because this “singing thing”? No bueno.
