iTunes have released their list of Best Selling Albums of 2013 today, celebrating the year’s strongest commercial efforts as Apple continues to enjoy 63% of the digital music downloads in the U.S.

2014 is most definitely a year when NEW pop artists are going to COME OUT OF NOWHERE are just slay.
Stale years are about the time new artists come around and 2013 has been pretty stale.
We’ve had the same pop artists on the Hot 100 and all the major artists save for Rihanna and Nicki Minaj have released something.
Besides those two, there’s really nothing to look forward to and that is when NEW artists get the opportunity to establish themselves.
2014 will be an interesting year.

@lovebird I think other artists will do something!!! This year was more about Pop Divas and Male Artists…. We had somE R&B divas and fellas come out too but it didn’t do heavy numbers like the Pop artists did!!!! Hopefully R&B will make some more noise in 2014!!!! Singles like Body Party to Kisses Down Low were great in the summer time( and yea I know ppl are going to say something negative cause I see alot of you don’t like them) but give credit where it is due…. I love all of the Divas cause it seem like Female Artists make better songs than Men do Now!!!! with the fellas all it is about s** money and clubs ( except John Legend and the other Neo Soul Male Artists) So this year coming I predict that Female (Both Pop and R&B) will make some heavy noise…. Only here for Beyonce and Drake. They are the only two album I purchased. I streamed 20/20 experience its quality does not live up to the sales unlike Beyonce but congrats nonetheless. I loved what he did on Rocket for her. Magna Carta was far from Jay Zs best it was just blah and I just cannot take Eminems shouty wrist slitting music anymore. His flow is so tired.

Even though the album already had been out on the 10th of November of 2012, before 2013 even started!

Listen, congrats to Beyonce. What she did was both genius/ploy.. She took some ideas from Gaga’s “Artpop” & it made her project similar to what Gaga wanted. She waited until all of the other female artists released & then she released her material. You could only purchase the full album, there were no leaks because of how she released it. Therefore, that assures higher sales. Everyone cannot do this though.. That was brilliant. The wait, hype, anticipation, word of mouth & press did all of the promo for her.. So that in itself is a marketing ploy. If she had released it the regular way, critics and outside opinions could have affected her sales.. With so much hype, she needs atleast a 4 or 5 x platinum album, with atleast two huge number ones.. As far as JT

People have been waiting all year for Beyonce’s return, its been like a conspiracy theory. So when she dropped, everyone wanted to hear it. I don’t know how many times I’ve read ‘where’s Beyoncé album at?’ this year. The videos were a bonus. Stop trying to discredit her.
And people drop by 65-75% in their second week. It is normal. Beyoncé is still selling better than some girls in their first week.
It is great marketing, but it cannot work for everybody. Beyonce can break the internet simply by cutting her hair. She has a lot of star power after 16 years. And she actually used it to her advantage. And she proved that she still garners a lot of public interest.
Also, Taylor is a country artist with some pop leaning songs.. But she has sold 1.2 milli with her last effort.. That is huge.. Beyonce ain’t even doing that.. Country is not as big outside of the US. But Taylor’s sales are astounding..
Taylor is pop now, not country. No one denied Taylors sales as good, they are so I don’t know why the fan feels threatened or something. Beyoncé is still doing her thing after 16 years I wonder if Taylor will be? Credit where it is due.

This week before christmas is the biggest week of the year in sales for music… Come next week, after christmas.. Every artist will have a massive decrease in sales, and then even through January, sales will be low..
I think seeing as Beyonce has sold 1 million in a week, anything less than 5 million for this album will be a disappointment
Im not pressed at all.. but these sales shouldnt be used to talk up beyonce, compared to other artists like Rihanna and lady gaga.. because its not just an audio album. Maybe it should be on a separate chart

And you can keep clinging to the visual album thing, because not everyone bought the album simply because of its visuals. Like @Kendall said people were anticipating this album ALL YEAR. Its not like she charged the same price as an audio album is it? So not it should not be on a different chart.
And like I said before, Beyoncé after 16 years, is still maintaining this, not everyone can. So of course she can be compared to people younger and fresher than her.

I would say thus far Beyonce did better than taylor and gaga imo…..Like I stated yesterday taylor had papa johns and gaga had .99 promo deal, whereas Beyonce had NO promo, beside word of mouth. Just give credit when due. No ones trying to take aways from taylor nor gaga. Just FACTS babe. Stop tryin to cling on, she gave away 17 free videos, but wait isn’t every video free. So what’s you’re logic behind that?

This is funny, with all that tongue wagging, twerking and hype, Miley didn’t even make top anything. I know her record hit at #1 for two weeks, but she came up short. All those millions of followers on twitter and Facebook, they could of at least followed her to the store to purchase her CD.
Not a fan of Taylors, but I did see her in concert with my sister and she was really good.
