Mariah Carey mania continues.
The superstar unwrapped the video for new single ‘You’re Mine (Eternal)’ moments ago.
Premiered on MTV, the clip’s arrival completes an action-packed day for the diva; a day that brought with it the debut of ‘Mine’ and its accompanying remix featuring Trey Songz.
Shot in Puerto Rico’s El Yungue National Rain Forest, the stunning visual (which co-stars Songz in a non-singing capacity) awaits below…
Oh Mimi oh my.
A highly stylised and glossy affair, the video – with its beauty shots and scenic views- hits a homerun visually. However, that’s where the “good” sadly starts and stops.
Granted Mariah was never going to break into an 8-count of choreography, one would at least expect something…anything…to actually be happening in the clip. And yet, nothing.
It’s a major misstep in an era that stresses the importance of visuals; an era that sees video views and streaming make a world of difference to chart placements. Indeed, beyond her loyalest Lambs, what incentive is there to watch the vid again?
Still, the one saving grace is that the song remains “the” strongest effort from Mimi in years; hence, if continually pushed with the force used to launch it, Ms. Carey-Cannon could be on to a hit.
Mariah’s new album arrives on May 6th via Island Def Jam.
