Today brings with it the global release of Shakira‘s self-titled new album.
The opus, which serves as the star’s first English language effort since 2009’s ‘She Wolf’, has the world’s eyes watching – primarily as it’s her debut effort under the Roc Nation managerial umbrella.
Preceded by singles ‘Can’t Remember To Forget You (ft. Rihanna)’ and ‘Empire’, the set is being hailed by some as a fine return to form. For select others, however, the project serves up more questions than it does answers. Indeed, the lack of supporting performances has been puzzling, as has the fact only one video has been spun into rotation. A fact that is almost criminal given the VEVO age we’re in.

Never bought a shakira album before but I did buy her single empire which I love. Will preview on iTunes and see if anything else grabs my attention.

She’s still signed to Def Jam because she locked in an ironclad contract that won’t let her out until 10 years after she’s dead. That’s why. Rihanna is as dumb as a stump. Jay would have had no trouble convincing her to leave Def Jam for Roc Nation if it was something she could actually do.

Shakira’s new album is a good body of work. She mostly wrote and produced MOST of the songs on this album. It was her first time not writing some songs. MOST of your flop artist DON’T WRITE THEIR S***. She puts in work. Unlike Beyonce who just gets hot writers.

Not a Flopga fan coming for Shakira’s golden voice! She’s a way better singer then Gagz. Have a seat. And hell yes I’m buying Shakira’s album! It might be her strangest album to date but it works out for her. There aren’t alot of up tempo songs but she makes it work. Something J.Flop could never pull off. Where’s I Luh Ya Papi at?

With that said, she’s not my cup of tea. And Roc Nation gave her the best US promotion, Rihanna. Can that song would not had charted without her.
I love when people try to blame the label. This is her choice like 99% of the other star moms beyonce, christina ect she chooses not to promote the way she used too. The label has spent alot of money towards the promotion and production of these artist, but if they will not preform there is only so much they can do.
