Jimmy Jam Teases “Exciting” Janet Jackson News

Published: Friday 18th Apr 2014 by Sam

Is Janet Jackson plotting a chart comeback?

It perhaps seems so if a quote from her longtime producer Jimmy Jam is anything to go by.

Details after the jump…

Six years have passed since the Queen of Pop released her last studio album ‘Discipline’, with the time between bringing with it movies and tours – yet no no music (sans ‘Nothing’ from the ‘Why Did We Get Married Too’ soundtrack).

Still, murmurs about a new album have been gaining momentum in recent months.

Today should see that trajectory continue, for Jam (who together with Terry Lewis produced many of Jackson’s iconic hits) took to Twitter to tease “exciting” news:

Having seen Janet’s ‘Number Ones’ tour, it’s clear she still has “it” in abundance. What’s more, ‘Discipline’ was a wholly enjoyable LP, and packed enough “current” and “classic” to have appeased both fans and the casual listener. Here’s hoping, then, that Miss Jackson is indeed cooking up the comeback we’ve all been waiting for. The coast feels oh so clear, so fingers crossed that she strikes sooner rather than later.

Until more details emerge, rock out with us to Janet’s stunning VMA 2009 performance below…

The Queen of Pop is indeed working on a new album with a variety of producers from Avicii, Natalia Kills, MoZElla to Symbolic One and Toby Gad, just to name a few, there are some rumours that she is working with Patrick Leonard too, one of the masters behind her Iconic classic Like a Prayer, exciting news 🙂

    • H2O April 18, 2014

    • JOHNVIDAL April 18, 2014

Great. She worked with Orbit for her last album and look how that went though… 🙂 Meaning that this doesn´t mean those producers will bring slayage like Ray of Light (speaking about Orbit and her last album).

      • S****** Blonde April 18, 2014

I agree and disagree with you, it is true those producers are past their prime (creativity) but it could be still good, MDNA is a good Pop record, just not a good Madonna Album, definitely better than Hard Candy and her best since Confessions, bad singles choices, lack of enthusiasm from the miss Ciccone herself and bad management are the main reason the album flopped, but if you can’t see the greatness of tracks like Masterpiece, Falling Free, Gang Bang, Love Spent and I’m Addicted then you has never been into Madonna’s music cuz that’s her in all her form.

    • Funkyyall April 18, 2014

MDNA is the worst pop record i’ve heard so far, along with Britney Jean.

  6. Stephy April 18, 2014

Lol. Janet Jackson is NOT the Queen Of Pop! But carry on Samantha…

Ps Miss Jackson babyface paid off she still looks amazing to this day. Those cheek bones are keeping that face nice & tight. Madonna (THE REAL QUEEN OF POP) aged like spoiled milk. While Janet aged like fine wine.

  16. Applause April 18, 2014

The new generation isn’t here for Janet so it would be pointless like these ancient artist are tired plus whispering isn’t in anymore.

    • truth April 18, 2014

      • Applause April 18, 2014

But Artpop debuted at number 1 with 260k first week Janet will struggle for 80k lol

    • Funkyyall April 18, 2014

As will GaGa with her next project, I like her but let’s be real. Now look at where Janet was 6 years after she became a superstar with Control..

      • MovieAmi April 18, 2014

Control wasn’t Janet’s first album. She flopped with her first two…and last three. She only has 10 albums, which means half her discography flopped.

      • truth April 18, 2014

@movieami girl just stfu and GET OFF this post before you get dragged

  17. BEYHIVE_MINAJ April 18, 2014

That MJ tribute made me cry,Queen Janet knows how to slay the stage,as always. I can’t wait for this! I’m ready!

  18. Glendy April 18, 2014

LOL@people acting like Janet’s coming back to “slay.” What kind of comeback are you expecting for an almost 50 year old woman whose career has been dried up for a decade? If Mariah is flopping, then Janet has no prayer. She hasn’t had a top 10 hit in almost 15 years and her past 3 albums tanked. Enjoy the music but commercially it’s gonna bellyflop and you know it.

    • DerMcRon April 18, 2014

Damita Jo sold over 3 mil worldwide with a platinum single. Not bad at all. 20Yo also went platinum and Call on Me was a hit. Feedback was a hit as well and a platinum single. Mind you, this is all while blacklisted by American radio. Not bad.

      • JDE97 April 18, 2014

Damita Jo’s “3 mil worldwide” was low considering the bigger selling albums of that year and was a steep drop from the album she put out before.

20 YO went “platinum,” but stalled at less than 700k copies sold.

“Call on Me” failed to crack the top 20.

“Feedback” on barely went top 20 and Discipline totally failed.

Give up the “blacklisted by American radio”/SB excuse. It’s old. She’s not blacklisted, the GP is just over her is all.

      • stormyweather April 18, 2014

Actually, she was indeed blacklisted. I remember news reports, and DJs stating this. The proof is in the stats. I Want You was released and barely received any airplay, which is important to a single. But it ended up selling over 1 million copies. Feedback may not have been a top 10 hit but it also went Platinum. And you can downplay those records if you want but she still added platinum records and singles to her LONG and IMPRESSIVE resume’.

      • truth April 18, 2014

@jde h** Call On Me went platinum as did Feedback but y don’t u just eat me while i hang from the shower rod…u h**

  19. eric April 18, 2014

Janet is my favorite female entertainer and I’ve seen 3 of her live tours and I have a shelf packed with her music. Sadly, I have to disagree with the statement that Janet proved in the #1s tour that she still has “it”. Number Ones and Rock Witchu were both packaged for a quick and easy buck, and that much was glaringly obvious to anyone who saw the level of work, heart, passion and integrity poured into the All for You tour. I’ve seen plenty of concerts since and only Pink’s Truth About Love tour captured the fun, the brilliance and energy that made me fall in love with Janet.

If Janet is going to find her thirst and passion again, she will have to challenge herself to be fully committed in all areas of the project, and above all else she MUST stop leaning on Gil to choreograph every single gesture and nuance in a performance. I want her to revisit the letter she included in the All for You tour book about rehearsing and looking natural on stage. She still has “it”, but she’s got to bring it out.

  20. Nope, it’s all about MJ: The KING of Pop!!! April 18, 2014

MJ was the only Jackson that ever mattered. Janet is just a copycatting clone of him who would have never had a career if not for his fame. She even stole his dance styles and video concepts. I heard he didn’t wanna dance or share any of what he was planning around her because he knew she would copy it.

    • too bad April 18, 2014

LOL, too bad Michael isn’t around to show us. He
should’ve been taking care of himself. Now all MJ
fans have is scraps of music. Btw, how many of
those other Jacksons had successful solo careers?
And who was the only Jackson to successfully
land a job away from her family? The jealousy is real.

      • Flash80 April 18, 2014

Scraps and faded memories of success are all Janet fans have too, because she hasn’t been relevant since Dubya’s first term. Ever since she behaved like the Happy Hooker at the Superbowl, her career has been OVER!!!!!!! New music from her will just continue to flop like it’s been doing for the past 10 yrs.

  21. Queen Navy April 18, 2014

Janet played theaters with her #1’s tour after her Rock Wit You arena tour had to be cancelled due to low ticket sales. Her #1’s tour couldn’t even get a commercial sponsor so she had to foot the bill for most of it. Some “Queen”.

  22. Xoxo April 18, 2014

Oh please oh please let this be true
The thought alone gave me lifeeeee

  23. coolness April 18, 2014

I didn’t grow up on Janet. She’s more from my parent’s generation, hell, she and my Mum are the same age and share a birthday. It was three years ago that my cousin (who’s super into old school music) that put me on her and I became a fan! live for her five albums from Control to AFY and I discovering her catalog and performances was really amazing. I have a lot of favs: Bey, Ciara etc and it was just great to see where they got their inspiration from. Now, getting into her music so late also meant knowing that she is way past her prime today and considering how her career took a nosedive a decade ago, I think she needs to really put in work if she wants to succeed. I don’t like anything post AFY and truthfully, her putting out new music doesn’t really impact me because like I mentioned, I’m a late fan of hers but it would be very interesting for me to actually witness an era from Janet. If the music is good, I’ll support it. Good luck to her.

  24. Funkyyall April 18, 2014

Janet is my favorite singer/songwriter ever. I am anticipating her return because I admire her artistry. Even tho she’s not as popular as she once was, I know that she can still deliver great music if she puts her mind into it (write and produce her songs unlike the Discipline project) because Janet, unlike many other pop gals, has real talent.

  25. Navy Nick April 18, 2014

    My QUEEN!!

  26. Era of Tin April 18, 2014

Yeah, good luck with that. With her trackrecord over the past decade, she’s gonna need it.

  27. Sean April 18, 2014

Madonna gazes down from her throne unbothered. I love Janet and she’s an icon but the only place she’s EVER called the Queen is this wack R&B blog. Everyone knows that title belongs to Madonna and Madonna only. It’s subtle passive agreesive shade from blogs like this that try to diminish her untouchable legacy

    • Magnum April 18, 2014

      Madonna has no talent whatsoever.

    • Dermc April 18, 2014

Is it really that serious? Y’all acting like this is a real monarchy when in reality it is a term given to successful musically entertainers by blogs, magazines and news stories. And yes, I’ve heard money people call Janet, queen. Other entertainer has referred her to be a queen.

  28. Shawty April 18, 2014

LMAO…I’ll speak for ya Janet! We usually don’t feel respond to negatively cause we’re tooo Blessed, but i do believe i still sell Albums \CD’s . These days the most dese lil gurls/ boyz sell is Maybe 3 million lol…Check my record. .to be in da game soooo freakin long my worst is 2 million….ha ha my Best 10 million. ..And Wat! Oh also Girls today dont even have enuff respect for their Fans to promote, do interviews or worse. ..Fucken tour in the US. ..Have a seat Hatin, judgemental probably not Attractive as RATS. ..( i did take that one from. ..well u know. ..Fucken RATS

  29. TheFentyTakeOva April 18, 2014

She can’t sing at all. Give it up Tranet fans, ol’ girl has spoiled milk.

    • Magnum April 18, 2014

Janet always sings in tune. That alone makes her a better vocalist than Rhianna.

      • TheFentyTakeOva April 18, 2014

Easy to stay in tune when you LIP SYNC 99.999% of the time. Hahaha. She even lipped a BALLAD on AI. Riri definitely has a stronger voice than Tranet so don’t even go there! Tranet sounds like a chipmunk.

    • Funkyyall April 18, 2014

Janet’s vocal harmonies alone > every Rihgoat vocal performance.

    • Magnum April 18, 2014

Still, every time Janet sings live she sings in tune. She may lip sync a lot but that’s because she dances up a storm on stage. What excuse does Rihanna have for her awful live vocals? The only thing Janet lacks is power, still she is talented vocalist.

      • Essa April 18, 2014

Janet is not a “talented vocalist” by any stretch of the imagination. She slurs and strains her words, has terrible diction, usually lacks clarity and at times is barely audible. That’s not a talented vocalist, my friend. That’s a “studio singer.” She relies on heavy heavy production to drown out her very average singing. She’s very limited and pitch correction is her savior in the studio.

      • RainDawg April 18, 2014

Classical composer Louis Andriessen has praised Jackson for her “rubato, sense of rhythm, sensitivity, and the childlike quality of her strangely erotic voice.”
Matthew Perpetus of Fluxblog suggested Jackson’s vocal techniques as a study for indie rock music, considering it to possess “a somewhat subliminal effect on the listener, guiding and emphasizing dynamic shifts without distracting attention from its primal hooks.” Perpetus added, “her presence is essential to the success of the piece. Her voice effortlessly transitions from a rhythmic toughness to soulful emoting to a flirty softness without overselling any aspect of her performance, […] a continuum of emotions and attitudes that add up to the impression that we’re listening to the expression of a fully-formed human being with contradictions and complexities.”
        PRAISE HA.

  30. RoyalKev April 18, 2014

Yesssss! The True Queen of Pop is coming back! Say it ain’t so!!! Janet has a score to settle with these b****** that wanted her to be over and done with. I said it before, JJ is one of the few original legends that still got it! Jan’s truly one of a kind! This is going to make some stans mad! LOL

  31. Shawty April 18, 2014

As long as People are talking about Janet, still, Im sure she doesn’t Care lol, She will still Entertain her Fans and New Fans. ..just keep in mind Janet is not Ghetto, Hood, or trying to be Relevant how old a** folks are for doing somethin wit Wanna be black kid Mylie. ..As for as B. ..No Shade there! She is today’s Janet Jackson, she’ll tell you herselfduuuh! Janet is Pure, Humble and still Famous, a legend and RICH….haterzzz lol. ..Get Yall Life! Lmao

  32. Spunkypoop April 18, 2014

  33. Dossome April 18, 2014

I’m waiting for an OFFICIAL announcement…But Janet is my #1 female,so whenever she puts out new music,I’M HERE….This Queen of Pop debate is ridiculous,Music is pretty subjective and as far as hierachy goes,it all comes down to personal taste and preferances

  34. Avenger April 18, 2014

What kind of comeback can anybody expect her to have? Her era has past. That’s like MC Hammer or Pebbles announcing they’re working on new music.

Yeah…have fun…but I’m not seeing too many RIAA certifications or high chart peaks headed her way.

  35. Stav April 18, 2014

Just enjoy the music for what it is. If chart positions and commercial notoriety is what you’re craving for when it comes to Janet at this point, then you’ll most likely be disappointed. That part of her career is pretty much over. Now she’s at the point where she’s a heritage act making music for herself and the longtime appreciators that stayed. She’s not going to attract a whole new audience, reinvigorate corporate support, score more hit singles and go on to sell millions more. So all this “the queen is about to shut it down” is laughable, delusional and sad. This ain’t 1990.

  36. Mark111 April 18, 2014

I see the other fan bases are mad. Janet is The Queen of Pop. Madonna is Nothing more than a touring clown. MC fans shouldn’t be calling anyone a flop. It’s time for our legend to return, she took the much needed break. I think she messed up in the 2000s cause she kept trying to come back every two years and lost respect, plus she was black listed.

  37. FutureCIARA April 18, 2014

I WILL SELL MY BODY FOR THIS JANET COMEBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. MUSICHEAD April 18, 2014

I CANNOT WAIT for another Janet motherfuckin Jackson album! She is the Queen of Pop.

However, if she is still banned at radio like she was on the last 3 albums, promoting this project will be very difficult. Even after all these years, Clear Channel still refuses to play her music.

  39. Avi April 18, 2014

Stop acting like Janet can have a comeback. She’s over and has been (get it “has been”) for over a decade. The world has moved on and from what I see is largely apathetic to her.

  40. nope April 19, 2014

    it’s been over for her.

  41. Talldaddy April 19, 2014

Every time Janet is about to come out with new music, her delusional fans act like she’s about to slay, but then she flops…again…

Then we get more blaming it some phantom “blacklist” excuse when the real truth is that the public just didn’t want it.

  42. CzarM April 19, 2014

Janet’s been chasing after a “Mimi” style bounce back for 10 years now and it hasn’t happened. Don’t tell me that now at close to 50 she’s trying to conjure up a last ditch Cher/”Believe” moment. Just let it go. The gracious thing to do would be to bow out gracefully instead of putting out more music that will tank and only further tarnish her past hit streak.

And I don’t use any supposed backlash, blasting or whatever you wanna call it to excuse her failure. The truth is that Janet’s music has been incredibly trite, stale, predictable and utterly lacking for years. For the past 20 years, the theme of every album is the same: she drops 30 lbs., runs around showing off her bare midriff while cooing about how “moist” she is over an album of two dozen ridiculous interludes. The Superbowl fallout that her stans cling to like a holy grail is just a handy dandy excuse; the truth is that most of the problem’s been her. She doesn’t know how to reinvent herself and refuses to evolve from the “I feel so s*** and free” 30 year old she was 20 years ago. She’s worse than Mariah when it comes to not acting her age and wanting to be a perpetual co-ed.

  43. IStanForYourFav April 19, 2014

No ma’am… we will NOT come for Janet Jackson! She is the true Queen of Stage & Dance. She has mega hits, millions, and is the ultimate. She remains the reason your fav is a lessor. Don’t come for Janet. She is truly Icon.

As for the Madonna thing, Madonna is the Queen of Pop, and Janet is the Queen of Dance. At least that’s how I’ve always seen it. But truly, to me, I believe the reason Janet declined is just because the media used her to get to her brother during his child molestation charges. It is what it is though… Janet is still QUEEN. No one can compare to Miss. Jackson!!!!

  44. metzo April 19, 2014

    One word. LEGENDARY

  45. DiamondGirl April 19, 2014

Yum. No. We don’t need her. We already have Thiefyonce.

  46. tony smith April 19, 2014

why do gay men always have to pull out razor blades and have face-slashing fights over women singers? Shut up and enjoy what you like. GROW UP you little queens.

  47. janet1814 April 19, 2014

Janet is the queen for me and I am definitely here for a comeback! However if she want this project to be successful she needs to come out with uplifting material in the same vain as ‘All for You’, ‘Got Till It’s Gone’ and ‘Together Again’. The general public likes Janet when she’s singing happy, bouncy songs and not shaking her tata’s around.

Of course she’ll need a lot of support and promotion from a major record label but I think this could be her ‘Ray of Light’ moment.
