Winning: Lana Del Rey’s ‘West Coast’ Hits Hot 100’s Top Twenty

Published: Thursday 24th Apr 2014 by David

After proving herself to be a slow but sure albums seller, Lana Del Rey now sets her sights on a singles glory this year, kicking things off with the release of her new single ‘West Coast.’

Indeed, after seeing one too many critics write her off following Lorde‘s arrival, the ‘Video Games’ sensation now gives the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce and Katy Perry a run for their ‘Hot 100’ money this week, after ‘Coast’ rocked the Top Twenty without the support of an official music video.

Details below!

Yet to debut on any airplay chart, the cut’s popularity reached enviable heights in the last seven days, pulling in 2.7 million US streams and 118,000 purchased downloads!

This, seeing 68% of her chart points generated by legal downloads and only 32% pulled in by free streams, achieved before her label ‘Interscope Records‘, unlocks their promotional flood gates to support the single, which is being bought more than it is being streamed.

Perched at #17 on the tally, ‘West’ now stands as the star’s second-highest charting single since her debut, after ‘Summertime Sadness’ twirled its melancholic way to #6 in 2013.

Certain commentators look stooopid as F*** now

  4. FutureCIARA April 24, 2014

Its no shade when I congratulate her…… But why does her team always dragg the ORIGINAL cut of the song off the charts, only to replace it by a remixed or a different version after they see it not performing so well………….

West Coast is completely NON-Existant on the iTunes Charts as of now

This question is for my good good girlfriend @Trollsie

    All shade aside!

    • The truth hurts April 24, 2014

The new version isn’t some piece of edm trash. It’s mainly just clearer vocals after some were complaining they couldn’t make out certain lyrics very well

  5. Molly April 24, 2014

    Don’t know her.

    • FutureCIARA April 24, 2014

      Lol sis, Stop it..
I really want to have a conversation with Rosie without shade just this one time, as to why they always Radio-edit or remix her singles for them to be super successful in the US and most other markets, Like with SS the DJ gave it an EDM twist during the EDM movement and it became a sleeper hit amongst the rave children…. But they pay the original singles DUST….

And Lana herself sat ther and said she didnt even like or approve of the DJ remix, but it got her her highest charting single to date….. Im really confused by the way the push her music

  6. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) April 24, 2014

Lana, Rihanna, and Adele are the only female acts who are selling globally.

    • FutureCIARA April 24, 2014

      Hey @Slutriah !!!!

That’s cute, that’s what everyone other than perverted, Reddit-lurking neckbeards and ugly virgin 14 year old nerds say about Kelly Kelly.

  10. Vee April 24, 2014

Thats cute for her. I like her music. Can we get a post on Beyonce becoming the highest grossing black female of all time please. Mrs Carter is only behind Madonna on the Touring front!

      • Vee April 24, 2014

Oh yeah forget about her. Bey still slays. Age 32.

      • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) April 24, 2014

        Not quite.

      • Vee April 24, 2014

        Not quite what?

      • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) April 24, 2014

Well , you tried to say that she was second to Madonna which is a lie since Celine’s tour Taking Chances almost made $300 million.

      • Vee April 24, 2014

And did I not say ‘oh yeah I forgot about her?’. Whats your problem?

      • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) April 24, 2014

Just make sure that you get your facts 100% straight before you write because it diminishes your credibility when you make foolish statements like that.

      • Vee April 24, 2014

B**** don’t tell what to ‘make sure’ Im doing why is it bothering you so much. I acknowledged Celines position so why tf you replied ‘not quite’ I do not know. Beyonce is way younger than them both and is a black female so her huge accomplishment remains IN TACT. Goodbye.

      • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) April 24, 2014

I also said “not quite ” because you said “bey still slays”.

      • Vee April 24, 2014

She does still slay. For the reasons I said above darling. Its not an easy thing to do.

      • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) April 24, 2014

Her album sales are too weak to be considered as “slayage”. Next…

      • Vee April 24, 2014

Im not talking about album sales though try again.
Touring statistics is much more impressive. People actually have to pay good money to see you on Tour.

      • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) April 24, 2014

A lot of people will pay just because they want to see the celebrity, not because they care to watch their performance. Album sales are way more important because that is a body of work that takes a long time…. Well, at least for people who actually write.

      • Vee April 24, 2014

And you’re basing this theory on what?

      • Vee April 24, 2014

And thats not true. Its a lot of money so they want a good show and be able to enjoy their music live.

      • lala April 25, 2014

@Vee, sit your tired ass down, that overated gimmicks time in this industry is finally coming to an end!

      • Vee April 27, 2014

        Who are you?

  11. The truth hurts April 24, 2014

Yay! Great performance that has exceeded my expectations.
Interscope has been in an absolute mess with this song. If it’s going to chart any higher then they need to send it to radios soon after the main video comes out.
The amount of people saying this would struggle to chart was astounding and now she has proved them wrong. What a good omen for ULTRAVIOLENCE.

  12. RICHIE_RICH April 24, 2014

Yeah Sam we shouldn’t have to ask for a post of the first black female with the highest grossing tour.

  13. FutureCIARA April 24, 2014

Not @Slutriah paying my warm greeting dust.

  14. NICKI IS QUEEN OTHER B****** TAKE A SEAT April 24, 2014

    Well congrats.

  15. Kelly flopland April 24, 2014

    I’m sorry, who?

  16. Rosie April 24, 2014

That’s really great for her! Especially in her least supportive market. I’m certain UV will do at least 150K first week now.
And by the way, @FutureCedric, the replaced version isn’t a remix, the only difference if that her voice sounds more clear. Please do your research and at least go support your own D-list faves before coming for Lana.

  17. BEYFLAWLESS April 24, 2014

    congrats #nopromo

  18. Navy Commander April 24, 2014

Im so happy for her. Cant wait for the album

  20. Bri Bri April 24, 2014

So Cool! I Knew That Lana’s Hard Work, and Her Amazing Artistry Would Pay Off! She Is So Unique, and Doesn’t Care About Kissing Peoples Ass To Make Her Dreams Come True. Lana Set Forth Years Ago To Make It, and She Is Living Her Dream Out Now! To Any Negative People Or Negative Comments….. I Will Throw Caution To Each Of You. Don’t F*** With Lana! She Kicks Ass and Takes Names!

  21. Auntie_Jackie April 25, 2014

She and her team worked for it. Not a huge fan because some of the style/music is a little contrived and repetitive for me, but the billboard chart always needs diversity, so congrats to her!
