After losing its charismatic founder Steve Jobs to pancreatic cancer in 2011, has ‘Apple’ found a new frontman in UMG‘s Jimmy Iovine?
Well, if industry murmurings growing louder this week are anything to go by, the answer to that question may be yes.
Details on his reported new move below…
Birthing the careers of Eminem, Lady GaGa, Keri Hilson and ‘West Coast‘ singer Lana Del Rey, Iovine is now reportedly in talks to head ‘Apple‘ after the company purchased his $3.2 million for ‘Beats Electronics’, the limited liability company he founded alongside mega-producer Dr.Dre.
Set to see him part ways with ‘Universal’ if true, his reported move to the company would see him replace current CEO Tim Cooke, who took over after Jobs’ passing and may now step down to make way for the electric mogul, 24 years after he founded ‘Interscope.’
Hits Daily Double explains:
Beats insiders believe the Beats head and IGA chief will be leaving his longtime UMG home—where he’s still under contract—for a fulltime post at the tech giant. Given that Apple is ponying up $3.2 billion for the company, why wouldn’t it get that company’s chief executive on an exclusive basis?
Apple’s return to cultural dominance lies with Iovine, Dr. Dre and their team. This includes affiliated musician/execs like Trent Reznor and Beats endorsers like Eminem, just for starters. But Iovine’s posse includes music superstars from Bruce to Bono. This coterie’s presence as the face of Apple’s new gear and services is a shortcut to bringing sexy back.
CEO Tim Cook knows he isn’t Jobs, and when he steps up onstage at the Worldwide Developers Conference to introduce a new gizmo, he always suffers in comparison to the company’s charismatic “think different” visionary. So how do you get that rock-star vibe again? You bring in rock stars.
That “wow factor” is going to be integral to regaining the lead in personal electronics and vital to the migration to “lifestyle” gear, which is where the company is headed.
Most of the speculation we’ve seen about the deal is based on technology that already exists—such as Beats by Dre headphones and the Beats Music streaming service. While these things factor into the near-term economics, most insiders believe that the primary reason for Apple’s biggest acquisition yet is products and applications that are still to come.

Amazing!
Troll.
he is using my email adress
I don’t know if that’s a good idea 2bh. Is it safe for someone that involved in music to control the a business that controls the biggest digital chart. We already know how some folk like to cheat on iTunes so I sense that some funny business will be going down.
Marvelous!
Why not Dre? He’s more popular than Jimmy if it’s a rockstar they’re after.
So you have time to close new deals but not to help my fav promote? OK Jimmy I see you.
Running away from Lady Gaga and that 25 million debt I see.
Why did my comment got deleted sam? I didn’t say nothig wrong
It’s obvious that you were trolling.
Maybe head of iTunes or the music department, but i don’t see CO of Apple. Sorry, but music people aren’t great business people, at least not safe business people.
Good point babe, I don’t trust that he won’t try and cheat the system.
I wonder if he could be the face without being the CEO.
I can only see him bringing in new ideas. That was Jobs strong point, he wasn’t an inventor, but an idealist and a master at marketing.
If he can’t even get Lana to slay, what makes you think he can help Apple.
He got BTD to sell 5-6 million worldwide. When will Cedric?
Not here for this. Interscope has been trash lately. He couldn’t get Chartflop to bring Gaga back among the GP, what makes him think he’ll take away Android’s 80% market share?
How many stadium tours does Lana have?
Are any of the remaining US artGRAVE dates sold out? I heard less than 70% of last night’s show was sold out.
How many stadium tours does Lana have?
I’d still continue to buy Android phones and V-Moda headphones, but I can imagine some impressionable person being swayed by this move.
