Production duo Stargate have showered praise on long time collaborator Rihanna this month, revealing that her fans can expect to hear “growth” on her eighth studio album, set for release later on this year.

Why the star’s Navy have ample reason to look forward to the body of work?

Exciting new details on its sound below…

A portion from the pair’s recent interview with ‘Vibe‘ reads:

VIBE: You and your partner Mikkel Eriksen have been in the studio with Rihanna working on her upcoming album. Coming off the platinum success of Unapologetic, a project that saw her receive some of the best reviews of her career, what can fans expect from this upcoming project?
Tor Erik of Stargate: We are right in the middle of the record. We have written some incredible material that we are really excited about and that Rihanna is excited about. I can’t wait for the world to hear that. Because she moves around so much if you looked at paparazzi pictures it looks like all Rihanna does is party. But in the studio she is one of the most focused, hardworking artists, and she wants to get things done.
VIBE: So there are no nightmare stories of Rihanna sucking her teeth and cursing out the engineer because the levels are not right?
Stargate: [Laughs] There’s never any drama with her. She’s very honest and there’s no games. But the important thing about Rihanna is that she is secure and confident about her own taste in music. She is very easy to work with but hard to please. She knows what she likes and what she doesn’t like, and if she doesn’t like the material then there’s no convincing her.
VIBE: So she’s no mere pop puppet, huh?
Stargate: But I like that. She doesn’t want us to pander to her.
She just wants us to play her some hot records and if she likes it she doesn’t want us to change anything. If she doesn’t like it we just have to move on to the next one. It’s very easy with Rihanna.
What has been the biggest improvement you have seen in Rihanna’s development as an artist?
She has grown as a vocalist. So now when she sings a song she enhances it immensely. I think we are digging even deeper when it comes to songwriting. We are still keeping it fresh and sexy because that’s who she is. That’s Rihanna’s personality. But as a vocalist she can handle more things.

STARGATE is to Rihanna what Timbaland is to JUDAS TimberFAKE; been there from the very beginning.

Cannot wait, now let me read.

    • coolness May 29, 2014

You are a mess, lol. Um could you tell me what other tracks they’ve done for her? Thanks.

  2. Don’t_Start_No_Shit!!! May 29, 2014

I need receipts for those vocals!!

  3. Gregg May 29, 2014

This is a vocalist????? *cuts own ears off*

  4. Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Rihanna could sing, she has proven it many times but I guess since she doesn’t lip sync or pop her C****** as she hit a pre recorded ‘run’ that means she has no vocals right?

  5. How Many Drinks (Miguels Wifey) May 29, 2014

Death @ Vocalist. Since when was Rihanna a VOCALIST to begin with though lmfao.

    • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Did Miguel’s one fan ever recover from that death drop leg sweep that Miguelisha unleashed on her?

  6. Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

I’m getting excited! This time around music will be better

  7. king_ricoHive May 29, 2014

I’m detecting several lies and I’m not here for that !!
She’s ok but a vocalist?? Then how come she can’t deliver a
    Decent performance ?

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

She has delivered many good performances if you look them up. My idea is that if she works with the right people on the right material, her vocals do shine. Even the haters are excited for this album LMAO

      • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Right, they all want that new Rihanna jam. Especially after that visual softcore p*** album and basic prism. We need less basic h***

    • Stephy May 29, 2014

I liked what I saw! Give me more tho! Thx!

  8. ozzy May 29, 2014

You have no idea how excited i am for this album!!!!! R8 is going to slay my LIIFFFFEEE. Stargate has been there from the beginning of her career, and WE can trust that they are working on HITS.
    *Dies*

  9. Stephy May 29, 2014

OMG! Rihanna is a VOCALIST!??? Ok, well that kills any doubts that Mariah was & still is a vocalist! Also, DEAD at Rihanna just picking threw songs she likes! WTF kinda artist is she?
    .
I’m still anticipating her new album! #EXCITED!

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

Im a stan but wouldn’t consider her a vocalist. That doesn’t mean she can’t sing though. She has shown many times now that her vocals are good and her songs are great. Anyways, R8 is the album I’m most anticipating this year.

      • Stephy May 29, 2014

Yes, I honestly want her to break Mimi’s & ultimately THE BEATLES number 1’s record. SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO IT!!!

    • I Stan For Myself May 29, 2014

What is this shouty mess supposed prove?

      • Ju don’t eve know May 29, 2014

Wasn’t proving anything. Just praising talent.

      • I Stan For Myself May 29, 2014

Well all that shows is her talent is very basic.

    • Ju don’t eve know May 29, 2014

Nothing close basic in my opinion. I’m not say she’s a great singer but she does have a good tone and a unique voice which is why she can sing a any genre, any style. Her voice makes her very versatile.

    • Don’t_Start_No_Shit!!! May 30, 2014

If that performance was your receipt thats she’s a vocalist. I rest my case, I was sleep before the 1:50 mark. She’s a studio artist with a great personality. And that is it!!

  10. Ju don’t eve know May 29, 2014

Honestly, idk why the lamb chops are coming for the queen when their faves vocals are weaker than Ciara’s.

    • Theone May 30, 2014

And yet Rihanna never/willnever have any vocals to chopHuntie!! These models with microphones have ruined the music industry and what’s sadder, these children actually believe she’s a vocalist!!! #Dead at the ignorance.

A great voice comes from God! Hence, God given talent!
A vocal coach can one help “Fine tune” the instrument not create it!

  11. I Stan For Myself May 29, 2014

This whole interview is a kiii. He basically shaded her unknowingly throughout the whole thing. Starting with UNA getting some of the best reviews of her career (lies), her ‘picking’ songs and that vocalist comment.

    • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Girl, have a seat and preorder your copy

      • I Stan For Myself May 29, 2014

        No thank you.

  12. Stephy May 29, 2014

Honestly, Rihanna has a unique Caribbean POP tone. But she is nobody’s vocalist! I still like & enjoy her voice and music! But honestly, you are technically considered a vocalist when you are trained to sing whether you hit high notes or not soo…

  13. MC!! May 29, 2014

I am hype for the album been hype for a while!!

  14. FutureCIARA May 29, 2014

They mean their computerized technology in the studio making process has grown!

As for her LIVE vocals, She’s in the same boat as Ciara & Its absolutely no shade!
    Theres progress, but nothing groundbreaking!

    • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Ciara will sing bout her love and joy for her baby and lover, it would be so cute to hear. Her music in that theme

    • Ju don’t eve know May 29, 2014

Don’t agree, I defiantly feel rih has more talent. Both don’t have a lot of vocal control. I’ll say that but other than that I don’t see any similarities.

    • Rihboy May 29, 2014

Lies detected! Im sorry but ciara isnt even on the life boats if this ship. Whispera will never!!!

      • Adele reign supreme (Kelly Clarkson) May 30, 2014

        What
Rihanna aint got no vocals. At least Ci-error have that Celine Dion
tone of voice and Rihanna sounds a goat who is spinning in the washing
        machine

  15. coolness May 29, 2014

Rihanna may not exactly fit the bill of a traditional skilled vocalist but I believe she can sing. The problem is that she is inconsistent live which makes her come across as lazy. I think that she has a very melodic, unique tone that fits practically any genre she sets her voice to. Be it R&B, Dance, EDM, Hip-Hop, Reggae influenced Pop etc. Plus, her Bajan lilt makes her sound instantly recognizable. We don’t know what R8 will sound like sonically but I would like to hear her tap into the true potential of her voice. People say Rihanna doesn’t have talent. I beg to differ. That girl has a great musical ear because she picks her songs and knows which one will eventually be a hit. That’s not easy. Also, she pulls off her songs with a certain conviction and personality that makes it impossible for even better singers to cover them as they sound bland. That’s talent.

    • Theone May 30, 2014

Smh at the lies! The only thing interesting about Rihanna’s voice is her accent and the pictures posted on CNN after Chris Brown hit her in it! #TrueTee!!

  16. Stephy May 29, 2014

Yall gonna leave Miss Rihanna alone! She can sing & is a vocalist! kii
    .
    .
I hope & prays she is PICKING out number 1 hits. She needs to snatch that wig from THE BEATLES since Mariah is having trouble doing it!

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

i have a feeling, there are people who don’t wanna see that happen especially those who keep track of the record books. The Beatles reign will be very difficult for anyone to overthrow…

    • Theone May 30, 2014

Unlike Mariah she’ll need someone to write them for her or sing on a hook for Eminem! LoL You tried it though SweetSweets!

  17. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

Rihanna always delivers. She’s been absent for a while now & it’s about time she took back her throne! #TeamRih

  18. Mark111 May 29, 2014

I just want Rihanna to work on her vocals and performances. I’m getting tired of the laziness, we know she got it cause she kills it on some nights. That’s about it cause she’s great on the recording side.

  19. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

Why is a Ciara fan talking about vocals though? Ciara ms vocals make Rihanna sound like Whitney Houston.#NoShade

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

      #truth

    • FutureCIARA May 29, 2014

Girl & Mariahs vocals now make Ariana Grande sound like Whitney, Mariah & Celine combined……..
      So whats your point dahling?

      • Theone May 30, 2014

Correct me if I am wrong but
isn’t your fav career stuck in the Matrixs! With that tired excuse of a backbend she been performing for the last half of her imaginary career!?
Ciara isn’t even in the food chain, while MC slays lives off Royalties!

  20. ozzy May 29, 2014

Singers that have strong control over their voice and years of training are in MY opinions vocalists. I wouldn’t consider Rihanna to be one, however i would also her pop contemporaries in the same group. That also includes, Katy, Beyonce, Lady Gaga etc… So quit the criticism.

    • XXX May 29, 2014

So why did you put Beyoncé in that category then? She has strong control over her voice and has been training for years. She is not in the same category vocally as Rihanna and Katy Perry how dare you. Only a Rihanna fan would make such a delusional suggestion.

      • ozzy May 29, 2014

I have EVERY right to do so, although i do think that Beyonce can sing, I wouldn’t consider her a vocalist. In MY opinion and NOT yours, I believe she lacks control over her voice.

      • XXX May 29, 2014

You clearly don’t know much about vocals. Beyoncé has a lot of control over voice which is partly why people rate her. She may not have the best voice (Mariah, Whitney etc) but she knows her voice and control is something she has. Xtina is a person who lacks control.

      • ozzy May 29, 2014

I don’t consider Beyonce to be a vocalist. Her voice just doesn’t take me places like Whitney or Mariah.

      • XXX May 29, 2014

That’s fine but don’t then make a weak reason for it which is not true.

      • XXX May 29, 2014

And she’s not on Mariah and Whitney’s level, that is rare. But she is much more superior to Rihanna and Katy. No way are they in the same category of singers. So please don’t.

    • Whitney/Mariah stan May 29, 2014

Bi*ch STFU..how dear you include Beyonce in that group of basic bit*h’s. Stop chasing waterfalls bit*h..the irony of a Rihanna fan judging vocals..dumb bit*h.

  21. Stephy May 29, 2014

Rihanna you betta PICK OUT some really catchy material that STARGATE WROTE/PRODUCED FOR YOU!
    .
    .
Rihanna needs 7 songs to reach number 1 in order to BREAK that TIRED ass BEATLES record they have held FAR TOOOOO LOOOOOONG!

  22. Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

I’m not delusional about Rihanna’s vocals. She’s no trained vocalist (may be due to how late they discovered her) but she does have a voice and each year she improves, whether you like to believe it or too pressed to admit her talent but last time I checked you did not need a voice like Whitney or Elton John to slay (Enter Michael Jackson and Madonna) so have a seat please because no one here cares about your feelings.

    • Stephy May 29, 2014

Don’t be throwing shade at Michael. Michael Jackson could sing very high

      • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Michael could sing but not like his rivals but he still slayed so that’s all that matters

    • XXX May 29, 2014

But Michael Jackson could sang don’t be silly please.

      • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

I think we are not thinking of the same Michael Jackson, how are y’all going to say MJ could sang and say Rihanna has no vocals? Delusional

      • XXX May 29, 2014

Where did I say Rihanna has no vocals? You are addressing me not the rest of the blog. And don’t mistake MJs light approach with not being able to strong. He could belt by the age of 5. Remember he liked to speak in a soft voice as well which was fake.

  23. LovebirdTGJ May 29, 2014

“She’s very honest and there’s no games. But the important thing about Rihanna is that she is secure and confident about her own taste in music. She is very easy to work with but hard to please. She knows what she likes and what she doesn’t like, and if she doesn’t like the material then there’s no convincing her.”

    10s

She has grown as a vocalist. So now when she sings a song she enhances it immensely. I think we are digging even deeper when it comes to songwriting. We are still keeping it fresh and s*** because that’s who she is. That’s Rihanna’s personality. But as a vocalist she can handle more things.

    More 10s; can’t wait for R8.

    • Stephy May 29, 2014

DEATH! UNBLOCK ME SCARED LIL F***!

  24. XXX May 29, 2014

Rihanna has a decent voice to sing over not very vocally challenging songs and she can execute them live when she wants to. She’s not as terrible as people make out. I hope she can live up to this vocal maturity.

  25. ozzy May 29, 2014

Rihanna can definitely sing but there is always room for improvement. Having a better voice doesn’t always mean better music people….

  26. LovebirdTGJ May 29, 2014

Now Rihanna, before R8 drops, Imma need one more single from Unapologetic.

Pick one between (Love without tragedy/Mother Mary, Lost in Paradise, No love allowed, Nobody’s business (remix without Chris Brown))

    • GILBERTO May 29, 2014

A new single? Really? Why would anyone release a new flop song from a flop album that has been irrelevant for, like, 2 years? BYE.

    • coolness May 29, 2014

Love Without Tradgedy/Mother Mary is fantastic! Probably one of my fav Rihanna songs. Dunno how it’ll work as a single though

      • LovebirdTGJ May 29, 2014

Yassss that song is amazing, it is Unapologetic’s Cold, case, love.

    • Mark111 May 29, 2014

She’s not on Def Jam anymore, so that era has ended.

      • LovebirdTGJ May 29, 2014

Ya but I’m sure DefJam can squeeze something out.

  27. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

Well she is a vocalist by definition. I actually really like her voice. It is quite distinct. We’ve seen her do her thing at the AMAd and she sounded great. She isn’t like Katy, Ke$ha, JLO, Madonna, and Ciara who have never proved themselves as singers.

      • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

Decent, but I’ve heard way better vocals from Rihanna. Just proves that Madonna is basic without all of her theatrics.

      • Stephy May 29, 2014

        True.

  28. Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Stephy, are you seriously bi polar or are you trolling? Whatever the case may be, I pity you. I’ll ask Sarah McLaughlin to you in one of those dog commercials. We’ll try to get you some coins for your treatment okay? I can’t keep seeing you going from a h** to a stalker to nice girl then to a horny one.. Too much going on here

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

Is she being trolled or is she really like that? LMAO

      • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

I have no idea but enough is enough! Pick a personality and stick with it!

    • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

      To let you in ***

    • Stephy May 29, 2014

Girl bye! There are trolls on this site that trolls with my name! You are one of them that do it! Goodbye! Also, the focus is on Rihanna/Music not me boo!

      • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

I don’t troll on anyone’s name. I don’t have time for that nor do Imam I scared to drag from my account.

      • Stephy May 29, 2014

Well, someone be trolling with my name. Writing nasty article about me & FutureCIARA. I think its one of all on this site that dis-likes me! But watever! Im over it!

  29. Mark111 May 29, 2014

With all that said, Rihanna is NOT a vocalist. But she can sing well on the right song. And that’s my fave.

    • Stephy May 29, 2014

      HmmMmm

    • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

I remember you once saying “I don’t have faves”. Also, “I don’t Stan for anyone”. LOOL!

But anyway, isn’t Rihanna a vocalist by definition? Which current female singers have better voices than Rihanna Besides Bey, Gaga, and Adele? And I’m not talking about flops.. Only people who are actually topping the charts and actually slaying?

      • Mark111 May 29, 2014

I’m sure I said I don’t Stan for anyone, but I am a fan of many. Isn’t being a fan and fave the same thing? Or is fave=stan?

My definition of a vocalist is a singer that execute notes on the spot. After your voice is soft or you’re a power house. But maybe everyone has a different definition. I think Nacho Grande is a young vocalist. Beyonce when she wants to be.

      • Stephy May 29, 2014

Huh? How do you think Ariana Grande is a VOCALIST but say Mariah Carey is not! WTF!

      • Mark111 May 29, 2014

I said young, there been a lot of young vocalist that never matured into full a vocalist. Brandy, Monica, Christina Aguilera, that UK Mariah clone and Jojo. Of course MC is a vocalist, but i never understood why people put her next to Whitney Houston when the few amount of LIVE performances never added up from MC. That’s just my opinion.

      • Stephy May 29, 2014

THANK YOU!!!! ALL I WANTED TO HEAR WAS VOCALIST! ALSO, OF COURSE WHITNEY HOUSTON WAS THE VOICE!!!
Ok, you cool with me now 🙂

  30. GILBERTO May 29, 2014

Stargate, sweet, you can keep with you this s*** that came out of your ass. Who are you trying to fool? You can do MAGIC in the studio, but when you give a mic to a basic b**** to sing live, dear Queen Bee, it’s going to look worse than a train wreck. And that’s a fact. If you had to say that, after a f****** decade working with her, it’s because you know that she can’t sing to save her life. You gotta kiss the ass that pay your bills. Give me a f****** receipt, READ LIVE PERFORMANCE, and let me judge this s*** by myself.

  31. SMH May 29, 2014

I like Rihanna, but if she’s a vocalist, then so is Jennifer Lopez.

  32. king_ricoHive May 29, 2014

    @ozzy
Beyonce is a vocalist she has sum of the smoothest
Runs and riffs in the game right now .
Rihanna may have a raspy unique voice but it’s not impressive
At all . Sounds like a goat 75 % of the time
I’m not trying to shade I’m just stating facts

      • king_ricoHive May 29, 2014

It’s funny how stans wanna shade her but we have
Several receipts to back it up
She’s not the best vocalist but she is the only vocalist
Than can control her voice while dancing her ass off and
Not just patting their P**** .
Beyonce is a powerhouse vocalist btw .

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

Look it’s really no shade but I dont consider someone shouting slightly in tune to be a vocalist.

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

I really dont think her runs are pleasant at all. Although they aren’t as bad as Xtina’s, they really aren’t up to my standards of a vocalist. Agree to disagree I guess.

      • XXX May 29, 2014

Its subjective Ozzy. Just because YOU don’t like it don’t discredit her as a vocalist.

      • Stephy May 29, 2014

Beyonce’s vocal texture does not indicate she’s a vocalist! The runs & control indicates she is a in fact a vocalist! Not better than Whitney or Celine or even Mariah but definitely a vocalist. Whether you like her voice or not!

      • ozzy May 29, 2014

XXX, I’ve stated since the beginning of this post that this is MY opinion and even capitalized the word ‘my’ a couple times. You are right, the word ‘vocalist’ is subjective.

      • XXX May 29, 2014

No sorry, you opinion on Beyonce’s VOICE is subjective. She is a vocalist. Any vocal professional will tell you. You have to provide any technical reason as to why she is not a vocalists besides the affect her voice has on you which is not technical.

      • ozzy May 29, 2014

Sorry but I consider her vocals in MY ears to lack the qualifications of a vocalist. I’m no expert but I don’t see it…

      • XXX May 29, 2014

Clean you ears honey. Because you’re coming across ignorant!

    • Senshi_Nynavy May 29, 2014

Question when you listened to the song did you feel the emotion or did it sound like she was just singing the song,
That to me seperates a vocalist from a singer

Huh? Every vocalist does NOT & is NOT gonna have ARETHA/WHITNEY type of power but she is a vocalist! She is controlling her voice in every shape! You just dislike her TONE!

      • GILBERTO May 29, 2014

Beyoncé’s 9 Grammy awards for BEST VOCALS proves you wrong. Go back to your mama’s basement in the ghetto.

Grammies don’t mean a thing in this nontalented musical environment of today. E.G., Rihanna has more grammies than Whitney Houston, enough said!

    • HiveHighness May 30, 2014

Her best vocals!!! Beyonce Is s vocalist and anyone who states otherwise must be deaf and ignorant. You don’t have to like her voice but do not try and discredit this womans power and control which a lot of these girls today lack.

  34. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

I don’t like Bey but she is obviously the best vocalist of our generation. Bey >>>>> ButherTina

    • Tia May 30, 2014

for once, i agree with you. anyone who says beyonce is no vocalist is either deaf or a plain hater.

Thanks for promoting Slay Hurts for free.”

You’re welcome, maybe it’ll chart on the Hot 100 instead of the Bubbling under.

BTW, Why is Pretty Hurts, sorry slay hurts not promoting the album?

    Billboard 200: #45 @Beyonce, Beyoncé 6,000 (1,981,000 total).

    Billboard 200: #40 @LanaDelRey, Born To Die 6,500 (1,052,000 total).

    Billboard 200: #16 @lordemusic, Pure Heroine 13,000 (1,272,000 total).

Oh she’s apparently an album artist.

    • GILBERTO May 29, 2014

She’s selling her album for $16 though. It hasn’t been discounted. It already grossed as much as (or more) a 3-million-selling album in USA, alone. With no promo. NEXT!

  36. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

    @Lovebird

Is King_Rico your boyfriend or what?

    • Stephy May 29, 2014

      Kii…

  37. ozzy May 29, 2014

I enjoy listening to singers with a unique tone to their voice and Rihanna is one of them. Some of my favorite don’t have the best voices though.

    • ozzy May 29, 2014

I don’t see it hun, sorry! I know alot of people do though..

    • GILBERTO May 29, 2014

In my dictionary, “unique tone” means “excuse for the lack of ability in singing.” So stop with this, and accept that you stan for someone who can’t sing.

      • ozzy May 29, 2014

I disagree but whatever. Everyone has a different taste in music.

      • Tia May 30, 2014

damn right! There’s no point convincing someone to agree with u when he/she/it stans for a non-singing goat. Says much about their taste.

  38. ozzy May 29, 2014

    Slayriah! What’s up? 🙂

    • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

Hey Ozzy! I’m great just exhausted with al these assignments and stuff. Gotta get those marks. How are you though?

      • ozzy May 29, 2014

I’m doing good, between balancing a job and being an poll clerk for Elections in Canada (where I live), I’ve been busy too. Are you really leaving the site if Mariah’s album doesn’t do 100k? 🙁

    • king_ricoHive May 29, 2014

Ozzy is in denial the goat voice has obviously
Effected her ears I don’t blame u tho.

  39. LovebirdTGJ May 29, 2014

@Slayriah, he better be, I could also settle for F*** buddy, I don’t care. HE SUPER FINE!!!

    • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

      #Dead

At least King_Rico didn’t abandon you like Matt did to me. LMAOO.

How much did those music videos cost? It looks like this album will just break-even.

    • GILBERTO May 29, 2014

You’re so clueless. I almost feel bad for you, but I don’t. Don’t you remember the 50-million-dollar deal with PEPSI? Well, PEPSI PAID for the videos. LOL. She still has tons of PEPSI cash to spend in the bank. LOL. Beyoncé is a business woman, just don’t forget that.

    • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

These stans think that pricing it at 16 dollars makes if more quality than pricing it at regular 12.00 . She has made videos and music for each. That is really expensive and that’s why she got that Pepsi deal of 50 million so she could make the album but she has to pay the dancers, the studio time, the producers, the musical directors, the choreographers, the stage displays, the venues for her videos, her make up, food, gas, etc. then she has to pay Pepsi back the money she used to make her era flourish (but really she did moderate). Stupid stans

      • GILBERTO May 29, 2014

B****, you almost made me choke with you stupidness. LOL. That s*** was hilarious, I really hope you’re just kidding ’cause I don’t want to believe that I share this world with a person like you.
First, Beyoncé and Pepsi made a DEAL. She doesn’t need to pay any s*** to Pepsi. LOL. Second, Beyoncé’s videos aren’t high budget like Gaga or Perry’s. Beyoncé didn’t even spend $3kk out of $50kk on these videos.

      • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Pepsi LOANED that money, they didn’t just say “here Beyoncé, don’t spend it at just one place” it’s like a line of credit or credit card. The money doesn’t belong to you but you have access to the funds. She has to pay it back to those people plus the publishing companies and distributors who shipping her music for her. Calling others stupid but you don’t know the first thing about distributing
        music?

      • XXX May 29, 2014

@Blue Ivy. Do you know the definition of a sponsor? That is what her Tour was for.

      • GILBERTO May 29, 2014

        @Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez

        “Pepsi LOANED that money”

Sorry, I forgot that Pepsi was a f****** bank. LOL. You’re so delusional. Why would she borrow money from Pepsi btw? LOL. She has the money, she paid B’Day Anthology videos from her pocket. Isn’t like she can’t afford $1 million into videos. LOL. It doesn’t make sense what you are saying. I never heard of any deal like that. I have seen companies paying for a video shoot, so the artist you will give some ads screen on it. She had a deal with them, just accept it. It’s known in the street. Don’t create things that you can’t even prove.

“publishing companies and distributors who shipping her music for her.”
Isn’t that Columbia Records’ job to start with? Last time I checked, it was. LOL.

“Calling others stupid but you don’t know the first thing about distributing music”
I called you stupid because you gave me a reason. You just keep posting these things that you can’t prove, a bunch of nonsense and lies, and sound like it came out of your ass.

      • Tia May 30, 2014

stupidity at its finest! What do u expect from one of the biggest beyonce hater on this site?! LOL

    • king_ricoHive May 29, 2014

      Babe let it go.
And focus on my beauty !!
      Muah

  41. Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

Beyoncé has great control over her voice but it’s really basic to me. Often enough she sounds like she’s straining to hit those notes and makes her sound off key, I know bey uses vocal enhancements or auto tune at times. Also she prerecorded a lot. Greatest vocalist of our generation? Mmm I think that belongs to perhaps Keke Wyatts or even Jessie J sounds great!

    • SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

Lies. Straining to hit notes = Christina.

Bey has a powerful voice. And he has a very developed lower register. She can pretty much do anything. Death @ Jessie J. You know you be trying.

      • Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

I listened to Jessie J, she can blow and has better control than bey!
        In my opinion!!

    • Tia May 30, 2014

chile, hush! Of course u wouldn’t admit that beyonce has the best voice of this generation even if your life depended on it. LMAO! Beyonce can still deliver a stunning performance even though she’s sick. Just look up her I am Yours performance in vegas.

  42. H2O May 29, 2014

Rihanna’s studio vocals get better with every album, on Unapologetic her vocals were just magical! I hope she’s worked on her live perforances too..

  43. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) May 29, 2014

    @King_Rico

Forget about Lovebird! I’m here now.

    • king_ricoHive May 29, 2014

      I beg ur pardon
      But do I kno u??

  44. LovebirdTGJ May 29, 2014

I blame Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Pattie Labelle, Deborah C**, Celine Dion for all the out of breathe, out of control, incoherent, noise pollution, white noise we now call “singing” and “belting out a vocal”, yawn.

They could do it effortlessly but today you have young artists not singing anymore but imitating. Just like engineers have got their specializations, vocalists should also know their specializations and limitations. No you’ll never sing like Whitney Demi Lovato with all that out of breathe, out of control SCREAMING.

Yes Ariana Grande, you can singing but you’re now moving from the realm of Ariana Grande to the narrow path of Christina Aguilera’s annoying shouts, hollers and incoherent out of breathe squeaks and clamps.

    Know your limits.

  45. Blue Ivy Carter-Rodriguez May 29, 2014

I love how the hive is seething at the “Beyoncé is not a vocalist” lmao

    • Tia May 30, 2014

i love how u remain delusional.

    • Mark111 May 29, 2014

Patti is a queen in her own right. So underrated.

  46. LovebirdTGJ May 29, 2014

A vocalist in my definition is simply someone who can hit a note correctly; nothing technical about that.

A guitar, piano, violin all sounds different but what makes them a musical instrument is the fact that they can hit the same note correctly.

In my book, an example of a vocalist is Adele, Sade, Ellie Gouding, Rebecca Ferguson, and I even enjoy Aaliyah’s voice a lot.

No need for incoherent out of breathe stomach rumbles, yawn.

    http://youtu.be/5j6LjxAaR88

    • Mark111 May 29, 2014

Sade and Aaliyah are great examples of you don’t have to be loud and yell to have a voice. To me, signature is more important than a loud voice. One makes you an artist with a style of no other while the other you’ll find on Idol.

      • Stephy May 29, 2014

Ooohhh I LOVEESSSSS ME some 80s Sade! Her tone>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    • HiveHighness May 30, 2014

      Ellie Goulding tho???

  47. Rihboy May 29, 2014

    #barz! I need r8 in my life!!!!!!!

  48. Yeah I Said It May 29, 2014

Lol the Navy is so dumb. Just don’t try and talk about vocals. Just don’t lol.

  49. Mark111 May 29, 2014

Christina Aguilera is the poster child of “know your limit”! @LoveBird. All that yelling and scream think she was killing it only killed her cords. And let’s not forget Jessica Simpson, going straight for the kill and not letting the song build. Just screaming from her throat from start to finish. #Sad

  50. Mark111 May 29, 2014

The HIVE are gonna eat this up, but Beyonce is the mother of control. Beyonce is that artist that can dance with the best, sang with the rest and look as pretty as the others. She is a jack of all trades, but a master at nothing.

    • Tia May 30, 2014

jack of all trades, queen of everything!

  51. musiclover May 29, 2014

theres a big difference between a vocalist and singer….i think he means “rihanna improved as a singer”…..a vocalist rihanna is not

  52. RihIcon(Navy Comm) May 29, 2014

    Rihanna is not a vocalist
    Beyonce is.
But Rihanna’s songs do more for me than beys, she just does to much sometimes(unneeded runs and belts) , Rihanna’s music is more edgy an catchy.

  53. RihIcon(Navy Comm) May 29, 2014

Rihanna gets better every era, (her style, singing, & dancing) and the Unapolgetic era was on point for the most part + she had an extra year to plan this era, so I expect SLAYAGE

  54. janet. May 29, 2014

What definition of ‘vocalist’ are you guys referring to?

    vo·cal·ist
    ˈvōkəlist/
    noun
    noun: vocalist; plural noun: vocalists
a singer, typically one who regularly performs with a jazz or pop group.
    synonyms: singer, songster; More

IF YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL SINGER THEN YOU ARE A VOCALIST, WHICH RIHANNA IS. Hitting high notes has NOTHING to do with being a ‘vocalist’ goodbye Stephy and go listen to your cheesy 90’s power ballads.

  55. Tyler May 29, 2014

@Ozzy bulllshit! Beyonce is a vocalist, Rihanna is not. The fact that you don’t like her voice or that it doesn’t “touch you” is SUBJECTIVE. Her vocal skill however, is not. Anybbody with even an ounce of any vocal inclination will tell you that she is one of the best vocal technicians in the industry. Technique and skill are factual attributes. With that being said, Beyonce has amazing vocal control, a good tone, a resonant voice, and some of the best rifts and runs in the biz. She’s mastered her craft. So for you to say that she’s not a vocalist is beyond absurd.

Beyonce’s vocals>>>the majority of her peers

  56. beyugly May 29, 2014

Who cares Rihanna doesn’t need to.be a vocalist anyway. She can sing and if disagree you’re lying ass hater b****.Not everybody wants to listen someone who belts. If that’s your thing go.look Jennifer Hudson or Leonia Lewis. Rihanna is fine.

  57. Sleazy May 29, 2014

No stargate sucking D doesn’t mean she has grown as a vocalist we not talking about that mic *sigh*

  58. XtinaTheDiva May 30, 2014

Rihanna isn’t one of the greatest singers on earth, but she can sing. If you don’t believe it go watch her Love The Way You Lie pt2 performance at Rock In Rio. So beautiful!

    • Micks May 30, 2014

Her rock in rio performance was terrible

  59. Rihboy May 30, 2014

Im pretty sure the album will have atleast 5 hits on it or more. Hopefully she really pushes each song! We all know she paid unapologetic dust after diamonds release. She did fairly well for not promoting that album. This time around i hope her team focuses on giving each hit the promotional guidance it needs !

  60. Brian310 May 30, 2014

Excited to hear what her sound is gonna be like, Bey is a vocalist her technique Is flawless even a hater can admit that.

  61. RihHive May 30, 2014

Rih is comin for all yall wigs!

  62. riri stan May 31, 2014

rihanna is a singer with a unique tone, she is no vocalist. Beyonce is not a vocalist neither does she have a unique tone. All Beyonce does is shout. She is forces herself to be a vocalist something she will never achieve. Shouting doesn’t mean u r a vocalist. Lmao behive keep hyping their fav! Pls bring back jayz/solang in the elevator pls

    • Kisses Down Low June 3, 2014

Beyonce doesnt just shout. But then I would not expect a Ri stan to know much.
