Iggy Azalea Responds To BET Awards Backlash

Iggy-Azalea-2

As history has shown time in and out, success always comes with a side-helping of backlash. Just ask Iggy Azalea.

The ‘Fancy’ femcee has become the aim of many a jab since hitting the scene – with fellow artists and their fans swinging at her with equal ferocity.

All came to a head at the BET Awards this past Sunday.

Nominated in the Best Female Hip-Hop category, Australian Azalea also took to the stage to perform with rapper T.I.

The social media digs flowed like water and literally gushed once “supposed” rival Nicki Minaj made a number of eyebrow-raising comments during her acceptance speech.

And while the latter has since gone on to clarify her words, Azalea has seized this moment to offer her two cents on the matter.

See what she had to say below…

Accompanying the post, which was shared on Instagram, the 23-year old wrote:

This is my mind state about everything & the only time I’m ever going to refer to this again so go nuts guys, Enjoy it. Ps. If you squint exxxtra hard you can see tiny elves having illuminati meetings between the lines in my notes app too.

Kudos to Iggy for holding her own. That said, it’ll always perplex as to why artists even bother giving the haters the time of day. It’s a generally fruitless exercise and only serves to intensify the “hate” – as the critics now know what buttons to press to provoke a response.

Anyway…

    That’s my Gurl with class.
More power to you Iggy and I wish u have a better career. U sold more albums, more number ones and many sold out concerts and also Grammy awards, mama awards, bet awards and billboard

  2. metzo July 2, 2014

This is what I call a Class act. Never feed the media or entertain the Bullshittt and hate. Keep doing your thing Iggy. Not your biggest fan, but she’s respectable.

  3. Mark111 July 2, 2014

Even she’s like Where Did Nicki diss me? Lol. The media and stans are the worst.

    • Anne July 2, 2014

She’s moreso saying she’s not 100% sure whether there was any shade or not but in her mind it doesn’t matter. She doesn’t care to battle with anyone and thinks everyone should let it go. She’s being honest because she can’t just flat out say for certain there was no shade, but she can say she doesn’t know for sure and doesn’t care either way.

  4. vee July 2, 2014

Her and Bey have something in common; they don’t let the haters phase them, nor entertain their b.s. More power to you Iggy. Keep being classy n keep those hits coming. Focus on your grind and ignore the haters. You’re doing something good obviously.

  5. Antonio July 2, 2014

All the hate is coming the f***** ass Barbz. They’re seething over the fact another female MC is gaining recognition other than Nicki. Iggy will never be on Nicki’s level tho, she has begun to bulld an empire outside of rap with huge endorsement deals, product launches and movie roles. Iggy is still an up and coming artist tbh. Imo, the Barbz are behaving exactly like the Lil’ Kim stans were 5 yrs ago when Nicki exploded. Nicki has been saying for 5-6 yrs, she has no competition, so now when a female comes along who’s actually selling a decent amount of albums and slaying with singles, she wants to throw petty, subliminal disses. Hopefully, Nicki and Iggy can be cordial with each other and collaborate together on a hard female empowerment anthem similar to Gangsta B****** by Eve, Trina and Brat or just do them and make money. There’s enough rook for 2 female rappers when 10-15 yrs, there were several like Kim, Foxy, Trina, Missy, Lauryn, Brat, Eve, Left Eye, Mia X, Khia, Jacki O and Remy Ma

    • You tried ????!! July 2, 2014

No the BARBZ are hating because they kno a female rapper with a FAIR chance can be a good COMPETITOR for Nicki who by the way try to kill every other female rappers legacy not their careers but what they worked hard to gain.. She didn’t give n e one a fair chance to clap back or new comers to TAKE OFF! But with IGGy she got a fair shot and she killing em and Nicki deserve to never work with IGGY because she said she was asking for “COMPETITION” now that there is some she’s SCARED BUT SH** just got real

“Be careful for what U ASK FOR’

  6. You tried ????!! July 2, 2014

IGGy get this money because that’s what it is really about! We have seen time and time again POPULAR artist who consistAntly win awards CAN be less paid! No shade ! But I believe the HATE on IGGy is REAL BECAUSE THIS IS ONLY THE BEGGINING. For IGGy! This is the start of a great career! Continue to kill them and make them hate u more!

As for THAT other girl….. Flip flipper don’t back slide ” talk that sh**” IGGy is a winner

    • Dub July 2, 2014

Really? Have you learned nothing from even a couple episodes of E! True Hollywood Story or Behind the Music? Some of the biggest names in music weren’t getting paid in the early portions of their career, but you think Iggy is magically paid??

Iggy is probably making pennies on the dollar right now. She gets minimum wage to parade around in expensive stuff they will have to give back to the boutique or designer that brought it, while T.I., management, the label, and any agencies acting on her behalf rake in any dough that’s coming her way.

She’ll get a pay raise when she can prove that she can sell an album, but it looks like that’s not going to happen….

  7. Kamikaze July 2, 2014

Now you know, If this was Princess Rih, she would be all up on Twitter shading from left to right. That girl has time in her hands. She crazy. Lol

  8. You tried it.. July 2, 2014

“That said, it’ll always perplex as to why artists even bother giving the haters the time of day. It’s a generally fruitless exercise and only serves to intensify the “hate” – as the critics now know what buttons to press to provoke a response.” That’s why Rihanna and Mariah pay you dust Sam. Cause you’re the ultimate hater/hypocrite.

    • Kookaaah July 2, 2014

Exactly ! Sam goes beyond constructive criticism if it’s Rhianna or Mariah. He is the biggest Mariah and Rhianna hater out there. He went on a Mariah hate campaign for a long time. Now you want to write us an essay about not addressing haters. LOL That’s why Mariah will never address you. “I don’t know her.” LMAO !!!!

  9. Fancy BISH July 2, 2014

IGGY has the longest running #1 Hot 100 female rap song in Billboard history this week with 6 weeks!

HOW YA LUH DAT? 😉 People really tried I-G-G-Y, but she said NO MA’AM! 😉 Bye Felicia!

    • You tried ????!! July 2, 2014

      IGGy continues to slay

    • the voice July 2, 2014

b/c of radio and vevo… not b.c of sales tho. New era…

Lauryn Hill didnt have VEVO but she has 18 million sold albums … Iggy cant do what L Boogie did.

Even Nicki gives props to Lauryn ….

When is IGGY gone give props to those females that came before her?

      • Dub July 2, 2014

She doesn’t have to give props to them because she doesn’t have to work like they had to work just to make it possible for anyone to even notice her. Iggy will get propped up by the music industry and all of these people that have invested in her and want her to be the next face of rap so she can also sell us a bunch of Chinese made designer crap, perfumes, and star in Transformers Part 12.

Considering she doesn’t even use her real voice to create her work, there’s no possible way she will ever rise to the level of fame and musical credibility that people like Lauryn Hill have… no question.

      • Wth July 10, 2014

She should give props to Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Gwen stefani that made the level of swag jacking and lack of creativity successful..
Lauryn Hill GTFOH how can you compare a white privilege lay on her back we know who she slept with before we heard her written by Ti music to the most dominate talented female rapper to ever chart…..
Black music is profitable and in white face it is enormous. Record execs just want the dollar they don’t care what a artist has to wear or look like.
Iggy probably a nice chick but uhmmmm it’s just strange that as many black female artist out that she mirrored none get radio play but due to Iggy skin color she is getting props for a style a look that is not hers. She is representing a culture she doesn’t belong to by looking and trying to be someone else… “Only in America”
Black women in America treatment not good. America is ok with discrimination and it’s interesting how race plays when a white women does it vs a black woman. Blacks accept unequal treatment they applaud it how conditioned they are.

  10. Kamikaze July 2, 2014

But seriously though, I respect Females who are all about their image n work. Instead of wasting your time
on Twitter beef, work your ass off. Iggy might possibly become the ‘Beyonce’ of Rap if she continues being positive n concentrate herself into her work ethic instead of beefing with other artists.

She actually opened for Beyonce on the #MCSWT in Australia, hopefully Bey gave her some great advice.

    • Dub July 2, 2014

The Beyonce of Rap? She’s already missed that boat (not that I wish to imply that she ever had a chance of catching it) by having a dumb debut album and an equally dumb gimmick that won’t stand the test of time.

She’ll be more like the Cassie of Rap.

  11. Rosie July 2, 2014

Class act. Other Urban artists should take note.

    • the voice July 2, 2014

They should take notes from someone with a song called P*SSy? Girl Bye

    • Dub July 2, 2014

What exactly is an “urban” artist to you and how exactly does Iggy fit into that category?

  12. RICHIE_RICH July 2, 2014

Like I stated the other day I don’t Nicki was throwing shade at her. I think it’s the Media trying to make something out of nothing.

    Well said Iggy.

  13. Licorice July 2, 2014

Who is she? I don’t know her.

    • I Stan for Iggy July 2, 2014

Not so fancy reply from an internet troll

  14. coolness July 2, 2014

Commendable response. Petty stans and the media will always try it and push nonexistent “beefs”. Nicki’s speech was a bit much but a hit dog will holler and if Iggy fans and Nicki haters have this preconceived notion of Iggy that she doesn’t write her music, then that says more about you guys than Nicki. I don’t care for Iggy at all but she should just focus on her music and do her. Nicki sweetie, get it together and release the next single.

  15. ,. July 2, 2014

so Nicki and Iggy respond in a way the media didn’t want, wow that sure as hell flung a winch in there plans.they spreading lies and rumors fling these two against each other and the stupid stans is to blame too.thye just eat up the f-ckry without a second thought, nicki bin saying what she bin saying from the get go, that she write her own verse and wants female rappers to write there own verses too. way before Iggy came on the seen, but all of a sudden they want to look like it was aimed at iggy.i can’t believe the media twist everything to start something that isn’t there and the dumb stans is just eating it up even now you can see alot of there hating @ss on here still talking sh!t instead of admitting that they were wrong instead they continue to act stupid even when both parties explained that the media is who is trying to start sh!t, sigh i am done with the bu-llsh!t.

  16. IStanForYourFav July 2, 2014

Cute pic! Anyway, anyone who knows better would know that even if you’re getting shaded, you answer them by success. Take the high road and get your money. Haters are irrelevant. That just doesn’t apply to Iggy, that applies to everyone. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do, and always take the high road, because karma is a b****, and a b**** always find its way back to its rightful owner.

  17. LOL July 2, 2014

LOL BYTCH CAN’T THROW SHADE CUZ HER ALBUM IS FLOPPING HARDER THAN J. LO LOL.

ONE HIT WONDERS CAN’T THROW SHADE, THAT’S WHY SHE KEPT IT CUTE LOL

  18. whut July 2, 2014

If Forbes hadn’t written that ridiculous article about her running hip hop, none of this would be happening.

    • truth (The PinkShit will.surely FLOP!! Just like PissAndFLOPtion honey) July 2, 2014

      😀 …yea… 😀

    • truth (The PinkShit will.surely FLOP!! Just like PissAndFLOPtion honey) July 2, 2014

But seriously…its happen and nicki is kattie. No shade but she is. Iggy is winning whats hot right now. Same as kim and nicki, now nicki and Queen Iggy. The hens have come hone to roost.

  19. whut July 2, 2014

And she can also thank her fans. If they didn’t start getting cocky and saying that she replaced Nicki because of one hit, this wouldn’t be happening.

  20. The Truth Emeritus July 2, 2014

Well said Iggy. I couldn’t agree re. Why be negative although others whom feel threatened by you feel the need to bring a dark cloud over your unmatched success. #Classact #Blackgirlstakenotes #newblackgirlsimean

    • Dub July 2, 2014

You can’t be serious. I won’t even harp about all the other problems with your statement, especially the implications about a large group of unique individuals (in this case black girls)… but “Unmatched success?”

This heffa couldn’t even win a BET award, but she’s unmatched? Please call me when she has 20 Grammys and maybe we can begin to talk about unmatched success.

      Get real.

  21. Dub July 2, 2014

Iggy is an annoying conundrum. Is she talented? Sure. Were there white girls in my high school more talented than her? Absolutely.

She literally has no major claim to fame except a couple of hits that people keep having to tell us are hits by using Powerpoint presentations, flow charts of sales, algebra equations based on iTunes single movement over a 90 day period, etc.

You can’t just listen to it and KNOW it’s a hit, people have to back it up nowadays I guess? It’s like when Taco Bell tells you 100% beef when your stomach knows that sh!t is fake. The radio station has to play it every 5 songs to prove it to you. They have to tell you how long it was on top of iTunes. Like seriously? GTFOH. Still garbage.

Good music is just that. Good music. It doesn’t need hype. It doesn’t need Forbes telling us that white people are taking over hip-hop. It doesn’t need T.I. (who is clearly an expert in good music /end sarcasm) to co-sign it. Good music definitely doesn’t need a white girl to sell it. BECAUSE it’s good music.

Iggy Azalea is the antithesis of all that, and that’s why I’m not checking for her whatsoever. Far too many highly talented people out there that deserve attention and don’t have to pimp someone else’s culture or backstory to have a gimmick. Just because someone doesn’t buy into the BS the music industry chooses to distribute doesn’t mean that they’re a hater.

If Justin Bieber was Usher’s great white hope to prostitute to the world, then Iggy is just that for T.I. These are insurance plans, not artists.

    • There once was a pimp and his h**…. July 2, 2014

Yaaaaaaaassssss! You took the words right out of my mouth. This is the best comment I have seen so far on this site.

      #Round of applause

  22. truth (The PinkShit will.surely FLOP!! Just like PissAndFLOPtion honey) July 2, 2014

Queen Iggy is a class act

  23. Nonya July 2, 2014

Lmao oh please! She didn’t throw shade because she’s in no position to!! She’s LAME. She would get annihilated. Nothing classy, f*** outta here. And I’m not a Nicki fan either, both these b****** lame.

  24. Musika July 2, 2014

I don’t think there’s been a non-Black winner from BET before..so it was all decided and done from the moment Nicki was nominated again on the list.

  25. Lionheart July 2, 2014

Artist respond to the petty stuff bc blog sites like thatgrapejuice create the petty BS…. But that’s none of my business

  26. Stay bloggin July 10, 2014

If she don’t write her rhymes is not a real rapper. Why would you expect a real response. A rapper scared to speak her mind.. What’s your point really? The most disappointing thing about nicki speech was she back peddled…
Authenticity is something blacks used to demand but I guess it’s easier to accept a poser with nothing to say… Femcee created a lane for this crap but not keeping it 100% now you can’t be mad at the 2% artist trying to redefine the genre and of course play victim… I would like to SiA perform a rap song but wait she writes her rhyme… Nicole Kidman could rock a fitted and a chain and she even has a 1/2 black son right. Unauthentic people don’t value authenticity.. Clones love fake artist.
