Unfortunately, respect was nowhere to be seen at Chicago‘s ‘House of Blues’ last week, when ‘Zion’ singer Lauryn Hill arrived an hour and twenty minutes to her own show at the venue.
How she apologised for her tardiness? Well…she didn’t, going on to slam her audience for complaining about her late arrival.
Then, as if they hadn’t suffered enough, looked on as she asked the venue’s security to boot one of her fans out of the venue for “doing something I don’t like.”

Lauryn Hill is right about respect being a minimum, which means she should show respect for her audiences by showing up on-time for her shows. LH has a reputation for showing up hours late for shows.

I hate when fans give an artist the athority to feel like they are untouchable and beyond beings person. To me, Lauryn Hill is in no position in her career to be 3 minutes late to a concert let alone a whole hour. To me that is rude and shows her lack of care towards the audience and her fans. She released 1 great album 15 yrs ago and hasn’t released s*** since (beside mtv unplug live album). She needs to focus and do better. Lauryn is dead wrong. Whether she realizes it or not, the fans are doing her a favor, not the other way around. They’re spending their money and time to come and support her, she could at least show gratitude and respect by showing up at the agreed upon time. It wouldn’t be as bad if this was just a one time thing, but she’s done this showing up hours late thing so many times now. She hasn’t released an album in like 15yrs, she should be honored that her fans are still loyal and dedicated enough to come out & support. Just because there are some fans that will wait hours for you to show up doesn’t mean they should have to, she needs to do better. You can’t demand respect if you refuse to show it.

I will always admire LH for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, but I don’t admire her behavior. She is a tortured soul who has an immense amount of talent. I was really routing for her, but I don’t think she’ll ever give me/us what we need. I wish her well. Stephy said nothing but the truth… The most talented musicians have the biggest probs.

What constitutes a fan and strong supporter is someone who holds you to real expectations because of the quality of your work and what you’re capable of. Whether Lauryn is ready to accept it or not, she’s capable of doing better and there’s nothing wrong with fans expressing that knowledge, though it should be done respectfully.
