Welcome to another edition of ‘The Stream Scene‘, the ‘That Grape Juice’ original feature shining a light on digital feats made by Pop & R&B’s biggest movers and shakers!
Launched in response to the inclusion of streaming points in many a chart across the globe, each edition will see us breakdown the facts and figures behind by each member of ‘The Scene’s release!
So, which four acts made it into ‘The Click Clique’ this time?
Find out after the jump!
Leading the party this time around is Janet Jackson, the Pop icon with over 140 million records sold worldwide!
Perhaps as a direct result from her long-running chart absence, Jackson‘s ‘VEVO’ presence paints a picture far removed from the reality of her impact, with the last five years seeing her ‘Rhythm Nation’ visual score 4.6 million views.
Meanwhile, after crossing the 2.5million streams mark in January 2014, her Peter Smillie directed for 1990’s ‘Escapade’ finds a friend in the 2,711,421 million mark, while EMI’s upload of her ‘All Nite’ video dances its way to 2,413,027 million streams scored, pushed by its parent album’ Damita Jo‘.
Cruising towards a lane currently occupied by Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran is Elijah Blake!
Now tasked with the challenge of turning his streaming water into iTunes wine, Blake recently saw global streams of debut LP ‘Bijoux 22′ make silent steps towards the 15 million mark.
Today, eight months after its unleashing, the singer’s ‘Towers of Tokyo’ leapt to higher ground to land at 22,505 views on his official ‘YouTube’ channel and a commendable 43,127 plays on ‘SoundCloud.’
This, failing to hold a light to the 11.2 million times his ‘Vendetta‘ has been spun since its release, but stands closer to the 3.6 million plays secured by slow jam ‘Vicky’s Secret’, the reported inspiration behind Ciara‘s ‘DUI’, which he penned for the singer’s self-titled studio effort.
Come June 9th, exactly one month would have passed since Nicki Minaj unlocked her latest music video for single ‘Pills N Potions.’
Since then, a steady flow of promo has brought its ‘VEVO’ viewing figure to to 22,523,692, watched for a total of 121 years, shared 46,842 times and driving 17,109 subscriptions to ‘NickiMinajAtVEVO’ in the last four weeks.
On higher ground, despite the lack of effort employed to push the release, Minaj‘s Cassie-backed ‘The Boys’ shimmies and shakes its way to 73.1 million’VEVO’ spins, as the fiery ‘Lookin’ Ass’ body slams the rapper’s competition with 13.6 million streams garnered on the same outlet.
No doubt hoping his new LP will fare just as well as 2004’s ‘Confessions’ is Usher, gliding back to Pop’s centre stage on the wings of new single ‘Good Kisser.’
Co-written by Warren Felder and the ‘Climax’ singer himself, ‘Kisser’ breaks up with the 9 million ‘VEVO’ streams mark and hops into bed with 10 million, locking lips with the figure and seducing 939,332 new viewers within the last three weeks, bringing it to a grand total of 10,939,332!
Meanwhile, ‘YouTube‘ user ‘Jaibrayon‘s sees his uploading of the singer’s tribute to Destiny’s Child at the 2005 ‘World Music Awards’ crosses the 1 million border to party at the 1.6 million mark, while ‘Halleluiahtimes‘ uploading of his smash hit single ‘Yeah’ enjoys 27.4 million spins since it was uploaded on May 5th 2009.
