Despite his 8th studio album ‘UR’ getting off to a rocky start with its moderately performing singles, veteran R&B singer Usher maintains – and recently reaffirmed – that he has “nothing to prove.”

Gearing up to kick off his “UR Experience” tour in promotion of the project, the Grammy winner recently sat down with CBS Radio to dish on the new trek, reflect over his 20 year career and more.

“No doubt about it, I don’t have to prove anything. I mean I’ve been doin it for 20 years, this will be my 8th album, and I’m just naturally a hard worker, anything that I do I go after it to be the best.”

Before Montreal fans get a peek at Ush and soon-to-be R&B roadmate August Alsina in action this Saturday, tuck in below to hear Ush dish on the tour:

Nothing to prove but pushing back albums? Why? Because you want it to do well. Otherwise u wouldn’t care about the sales and just release it. Usher. Sit. And go find a song we like.

Usher is Legend. Damn straight he has nothing to prove. All these boys in music today are chasing HIM. Don’t get it twisted.

20 years, nine #1 hits (ALL as the lead artist, not the featured hook singer), 65 million albums, yep, I’d say he’s about right.

Nobody’s asking you to prove anything. What we’re telling you is we want to be able to enjoy what you’ve already proven. We know you’re capable of being the best male r&b artist out there, and that’s why people are mad that you keep backsliding. You proved to us that you can do MUCH better than some garbage song telling women it’s OK to give up their self respect as long as they’re making money dancing on a pole. Stop making excuses and do better!
