Successes of yesteryear were celebrated in NYC hours ago, revisited to honour the ‘Def Jam’ as it celebrated its 30th birthday!
Of course, no ‘Def Jam‘ party would be complete without an appearance from one of its brightest stars Ashanti, who enjoyed a hit-kissed run at the label before parting ways with them following the release of 2004’s ‘Concrete Rose.’
Now, as she continues to embark on an independent journey, the ‘Only U’ chanteuse took to Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre to party with the label and perform the hit single ‘Always on Time’ besides her long time friend and collaborator Ja Rule.

“A poor man’s Jay Z and Beyonce”…
I was literally counting down to when one of you pressed, attention-seeking goons would mention Beyoncé.
You are delusional! Lets compare the hits.
Let’s compare the relevance…
BYE THOT!!!
BYE B****!!!
Ja and Ashanti got hits! Murda Inc was a force
Ashanti is still so pretty. Those 02-03 R&B meets thug made some great songs… Ja-Rule & Ashanti Ja-Rule & Ashanti Beyoncé & Jay-Z Mariah & Jadakiss Mariah & Busta JLO & Ja-Rule and so many many more. Good years to be a preteen…

Ja & Ashanti sounded great and the chemistry is still there. But I can’t help but wonder, how Ashanti use to mess with Irv & Ja Rule at the same time.
Girl… where df do u get these false ass teas from? You sounded smart at the beginning of your statement but towards the end u sounded just like beyonce trying to read proper without a ged.
Let’s not forget the two that started this ruff rapper and soft vocals format.

Eh I wouldn’t say they started anything. Just to name one song with soft singing ang gangster rappers – breakdown mariah Carey. And countless, countless other songs before aaliyah and x collaborated
Breakdown, Bone Thugs were rap singing, but the ruff rap voice as you see here. I said this since 2001, the day Aaliyah passed, Ashanti came out of NOWHERE and blew up.
Slay-Liyah #Queen
That was irv in the beginning right? as soon as ashanti hits the stage, notice how he disappears…
Let’s not forget who started this worldwide urban trend. Miss Mariah Carey and O.B.D! They started the trend of good girl meets thug.
Nope, it was Biggie and Fath/MJB with One More Chance / Stay with Me 6 months before MC.
Now y’all KNOW that was the s***!! Ashanti and Ja still got the chemistry they had back in the day, and we ALL know they got some hits! Ashanti looks amazing and Ja looks great as well! Amazing performance, if these two did a joint US tour I would be all over that!!!
