Ariana Grande and Jessie J hit headlines globally last week when news that they were planning to re-record R&B classic ‘The Boy Is Mine’ hit the wire.
Debate erupted here on TGJ and on social media, with many voicing their displeasure with the idea of the Brandy and Monica duet (released first in 1998) being re-dressed for a new project by its producer Darkchild.
Prior to now, Grande and J have been notable in their silence on the matter.
However, during a press run in Australia this, 21-year-old Ariana finally shared her view on the furore…
Speaking with Shazam Top 20, the songbird revealed:
“I don’t think I am {remaking the song}. I saw that on Facebook … I was like “Am I? I don’t know. This is the first I’ve heard of it.
It’s one of my favourite songs….It’s so iconic, it’s so perfect. I was excited by the idea but it’s just an idea. It’s a rumour.” {Source}

Granted we were open to hearing a fresh interpretation of the track, when weighing up the pros and cons, it doesn’t seem like the risk is altogether worth it for either Ari or Jessie and this point of their careers.
