Editor’s Note: Nicki Minaj’s First Week Sales Revealed / Rashad’s Concession Speech

For those of you who caught it, last week brought with it a wager between That Grape Juice editor & co-editor Sam and Rashad (me) that bet on Nicki Minaj‘s ‘The Pinkprint’ first week sales.

Sam was adamant that the Harajuku Barbie’s third album would see inaugural numbers of less than 200k, while I bet otherwise. Well, much to my chagrin (and Sam’s delight), we see how that ended (click here to see).

Though holding on to a strand of hope that the set’s revised numbers will see it at least tip toe over the 200k mark,  I’ll try not to be a sore loser, accept my defeat and, as promised, provide 1 lucky commenter a $15 Itunes gift card or a free copy of ‘The Pinkprint’ for Christmas.

Want to know who won?

It all awaits below:

Roel Bojorquez

36 promotional singles. 22 Award show performances. Countless interviews. Predictions by most of her Bitchez over 300K and she still came up short.

    • TRUTH SERUM December 16, 2014

And yet she’s ticking and grinding!

      • MisdamenorFan December 16, 2014

        …and it’s still not working.

    • JOHNVIDAL December 17, 2014

I agree. She has had the longest promo campaign for an album in music history. Like two whole years non stop.

  2. SpeakinDaTruth December 16, 2014

I’m not a Nicki stan, but I know she will definitely sell over 200K, at least 220K. A lot of retail stores didn’t know it was a Monday release and didn’t put the album out till today, I know for a fact she will come out on top. 🙂

Wow I was right… I kinda believed Sam… But I hated Anaconda and Only! It should’ve been PNP for a couple weeks/months, BOL for another couple, THEN the album…

  4. Antonio December 16, 2014

Didn’t Nicki say PFRR had a stocking album as well…

  5. Mark111 is a homosexual December 16, 2014

As much as she’s been everywhere and for as long, anything under 300k is a failure. These numbers are bad, very bad. And since Nicki albums don’t have long legs, we can pretty much bet on this only barely touching gold.

The excuses are hilarious the s*** flopped.

  8. I STAN(D) FOR TALENT December 16, 2014

…Done with this shiit. It will sell over 200k. It’s so obvious.

    • truth (icki is the QWEEN OF PUSHBACK!! Iggy got her scuured honey. #IckiAFlop) December 17, 2014

      Delusional sl-LUT!!

  9. Unbiased December 16, 2014

D’Angelo is pushing 100k with no physical release.
You are only fooling yourself with these excuses.

  10. tits mcgee December 16, 2014

Still a flop for somebody who had 3 singles, countless features, many performances and appearances on worldwide award shows, so many magazine covers, and fans on this site, and others saying 500,000 plus and even Beyonce type numbers.

With all the overexposure, she should not be debuting with a little over 200k.

Trey Songz should be headlong that tour. Lol.

  11. whut December 16, 2014

Who cares. Folks put too much emphasis on first week sales anyway. Taylor Swift sold huge first week numbers, and her music still sucks. So at the end of the day what does it really matter.

  12. Fergiestan December 16, 2014

Crappy numbers for a crappy b itch

  13. TRUTH SERUM December 16, 2014

The impact. Notice how Nicki is getting compared to major pop stars. She’s a female rap artist, compare apples to apples. Exactly!!!! Not one rap chick who released came remotely close.

    • Fergiestan December 16, 2014

The excuses when just last week y’all were saying she would sell upwards of 500k. This is a flop

      • TRUTH SERUM December 16, 2014

I didn’t say that, I would never harp or predict sales. I’m a fan And the cd is good, I’m satisfied! The end!!!!

    • MisdamenorFan December 16, 2014

Boo, Nicki is a Pop Star…Starshits were made to flyyyyyy

Lol Tricki Garbagh chile it’s hard out here for the “Pink Shrimp” all ya Barbz aren’t buying & NEITHER ARE WE!! LMBO your sales are Lacking Personality & your many features aren’t buying EITHER!! Sucks to be YOU!!

  15. tits mcgee December 16, 2014

Well I never heard J. Cole besides this site. I never heard a song from him, tbh. Nor have I seen a video of him shaking his money maker, but he is murdering, the queen of overexposure!!

    This ish to funny!! 🙂

  16. I STAN(D) FOR TALENT December 16, 2014

It will Debut @ #2 tho, and then clash and burn… forever.

  17. BeautifulDisaster89 December 16, 2014

I think her downfall was that pushback. She should’ve released this album when anaconda was getting so much airplay. Her promo was pretty great she’s needs to continue to do it to boost those sales

  18. Tyler December 16, 2014

    All bad smh

  19. BLACKOUT TBH December 16, 2014

Yet again…I was right. That’s the difference between knowing what you’re talking about and being a mouth-breather kids.

  20. I STAN(D) FOR TALENT December 16, 2014

#200k. Rashad is being played for a fool by Miss Sham. He’s the only sane and unbiased one on this God forsaken blog.

  21. Tea honey December 16, 2014

This is what the barbz get for trying to drag and clinging to the hive for dear life! She will struggle for gold lol I’m dying good luck onika!

  22. DEL BEY December 16, 2014

anybody with a degree in logistic could simply tell you she would debut with under 200k her previous album sold less than her debut (due to overexposure/messy singles) so with the 2435 underperforming singles this era plus an all time low in album sales she was bound to debut with these numbers, let’s hope she brings the fire and originality in two years time with the next era or she could be facing ciara teas

  23. LB December 16, 2014

Is it really opening with 165K? That’s less than Ariana Grande no?

  24. HELL NO December 16, 2014

It really makes me sad that her album is pushing these number and that’s because I truly feel that she worked extremely hard on this album. To be honest I was never impressed with her first album and I used to kinda hate on her because I was more of a Kim fan. But I did buy the Pinkprint and I can say that her lyrical delivery and overall quality is better than ever before. The album is a good play from beginning to end. It reminds me of the work of a young Lil’ Kim especially on tracks like “Shanghai,” “Four Door Aventador,” and “Favorite.” When I listened to the album the first time I was amazed at the quality of the songs, it’s truly a work of art. I am starting to get extremely disappointed that basic artists can sell so many copies when hardworking and spiritual artist with better albums like “Aquarius,” “The Pinkprint,” “These Things Happen,” “Nick Jonas,” and “X” are overlooked and underrated.

  25. Nicki&BeyStan December 17, 2014

At the end of the day, SlayMinaj is still going to surpass Flopzalea!! Let’s move on!!

  26. Slayty Perry (Superbowl Queen) December 17, 2014

I’m screaming at TGJ and the good sister David scrambling to cook up excuses along with all the other Bratz. 165k in physical sales, 180k with streaming points. She won’t sell over 200k, deal with it. I can’t with yall trying to divert attention from this flopage by posting album sales from other female rappers. Not you reporting a rerelease along with two releases by independent rappers. The struggle is real and its taking TGJ to new lows. Reclassified sold 13k, for what its worth. Notice how they didn’t mention Kreayshawn’s abysmal 3k sales. The more yall try to defend her, the harder T***** Garbage will be dragged. The Pink Flop is this years Artflop.

  27. The One December 17, 2014

She’s a flop for sure now.
    Her decline was inevitable!!

  28. The Truth Emeritus December 17, 2014

I truly hate to push a sister down but she had this flop coming. She fails to grasp on to a broader audience.Everytime I want to like her she does something to f*** it all up. She hasn’t diversified her sound and she’s a straight up hater.

  29. Rihanna #1 fan t December 17, 2014

She will do good.. !!! Stop hating and support her.. Yall trolling over iggy azalea but her fans are supporting her.. Why yall can’t support Nicki the same way..

  30. Sah December 17, 2014

Lol @ comparinn her to indie rappers

  31. rihicon December 17, 2014

wow I feel so bad for her, this was supposed to be her breakout era. maybe it’s her rated r/4
