Dawn Richard is rebranding.
The former Danity Kane diva now goes by the alias D∆WN and is pressing ahead with ‘Redemption Heart’ – the follow-up EP to this year’s ‘Blackheart’ album.
Ever keen to pair her eclectic sound with equally out-there visuals, the talented indie staple has premiered a new video fusing the songs ‘Titans’ and ‘James Dean.’
Check out the Monty Brown directed clip after the jump…
More times than not, Dawn shoots and scores. And score she definitely does with this simple, yet effective clip.
That said, and perhaps we’re in the minority, but we’d love to see her align her sound with something more akin to the mainstream flare of Danity Kane. It’s a bit perplexing that someone who was arguably the driving force behind the group’s most recent outing would veer so far from the sound that had the industry buzzing (before the group imploded again).
Think because of the Brandy comparisons she didn’t want to stay R&B from her solo early works.
Think DAWN has done enough eclectic sounds to last a life time now.
Need me a BOMBS era again where it has the DK core in her sound also.
The hustle is real though with all these videos and clarity of visuals.
LOL BRANDY COMPARISONS? LMAO NOBODY WAS COMPARING HER TO THAT FLOPPED ALIEN HASBEEN LOL
Why so negatve & bitter?. You know Brands is an amazing vocalist and person that even Dawn herself has said Brandy inspired her.
Seriously on this site you can be so nasty and vile. Let me guess f** queens?
DAWN DROPS BUMBS! Love her SWAG ITS SOOOO MEAN! I agree with TGJ though I would love her to make more musi. That she helped write for this lady era in DK! She was THE CORE of the groups creative sound and stage presence ! JAMES DEAN WILL SMASH ON RADIO IF THEY PUSH IT! #1HUSTLER SHE WOULD BE A TOUGH COMPETITOR IF SHE EVER WENT MAINSTREAM
I agree with you. I see people all the time say “but she’s trying to be Brandy!”
I’m like, it’s not like she can just CHANGE the tone of her voice.
And IDK. I like her experimental s***. I’m interested to see what RedHeart will sound like; she said it’ll be more traditional.
CUTE!! her and cici are def the best dancers of their generation
agreed
I like !
I like it. All her music video after “Blow” have been sh*tty and cheap-looking. “Tide: The Paradox Effect” was visually pleasing to some extent, but it was boring. This was good. Well done D∆WN. 7½/10
for a independent artist her videos and production on songs are always on point you would think she was signed to a major label they way her visuals and etc are set up im not mad at her she doing her thing
She actually is signed to a record label now.
this is news what Label is dawn signed tool ????????
Slay a little Dawn! I LOVE this!
I am not being shady or anything, but this site seems to have an affinity to Yawn Richards and Ci(FlopThis)Era. Just saying. I would like more Gaga posts or atleast more posts honoring Rihana.
but neither one of them doing anything musically right now… they posted rih’s stunning yet kinda unnecessary dior ad.
B***h bye! Stay off the site because every now in then they give credit to the talentless but they Respect and love TALENT ACTUAL ARTIST WITH ACTUAL STAR QUALITY ! U want to hear STORIES ON BUBBLE GUM TALENTLESS RATCHET LYING FAKE AUTO TUNE CORRECTED VOCALIST THEY CALL STARS stay on UR damn FACEBOOK NEWSFEED
…girl, Rihanna & Gaga have to actually be doin something to post about.
Another win for her, the grind is endless. I feel the choreography from this choreographer always seems to have so much going on that the dancers aren’t as precise as they should be. Even when he’s dancing it. Would love to see her work with another.
I have to disagree. I love her choreography. It’s very raw and tribal-like. It suits her music perfectly.
Must admit, she always comes with choreography ALWAYS!! But I agree that we need that Bombs Away slayage or even Scripture
You don’t think that titans has that same bass guitar twang that Scripture had?
i wish she would learn how to effectively balance her creativity with whats mainstream.
there is a way to be unapologetically yourself. but sometimes u have to get people’s attn first then draw them into you slowly with your “you-ness.” nevertheless…i applaud her willingness to be diff.
i hope it pays off
I wish people would realize that DΔWN, Dawn Richard from Danity Kane, and Dawn Richard from Dirty Money are 3 completely different artist. When you’re signed to a label like Bad Boy, you have to make the music that the company wants. The beauty of being an Independent artist is that you can make the music you want, and it doesn’t have to be mainstream. Sure there are plenty of influences of both groups in her music (for example “Castles” & “Blow”) but she’s growing and evolving as an artist and thats what counts. Besides, she def been offered record deals, its just a matter of her sound not changing once she gets signed.
I hear that, but DAWN with a triangle and Dawn without a triangle should want to have people hear her and hear her voice. Meaning she’s gotta put out something that’ll get played on the radio and calm down on all the vocal affects. The girl is talented beyond belief with a nice voice to boot; I think we all want that shared with the world. That’s all.
@lionheart – If she wants to keep her sound maybe she should look into signing with a indie label such as XL records (XL is huge) instead of the mainstream labels.
Well said
Dawn gives the year balance with this eclectic type of music. I have all her Lps and I’m definitely here for her on all accords.
well unlike the majority of “big” artists that have pretty much killed the soul the music industry used to contain, dawn richard does not make music to be a success or climb to the top of the charts. she creates her music by expressing what’s inside of her soul, so please TGJ do not discourage artists that are creatively unique & do not encourage artists to create music for the purpose of appealing to the masses. -.-
I love the video. Titans was alway one of my favorite songs on Blackheart and James Dean is pure gold. Heartheaux for life.
SLAAAAYYYYY DAWNITA !
Dawn you did that keep it up boo, you on some Beyoncé level s***
what’s with the 80’s outfit
Nice music video
