Reps for the rapper Iggy Azalea took to Billboard to claim a decision made by Nick Jonas and Tinashe to leave the performer’s ‘Great Escape’ tour was the reason it was scrapped.
Alas, their well-meaning attempts to clean up the PR mess the project’s demise has done more harm than good.
Find out how below…
As we were not able to fill the support slots on the tour in the fall, due to so many artists already having commitments and working this summer, we had not advertised or promoted the new shows since last winter.
The claim above was made by AEG Live Senior VP Debra Rathwell during a recent interview with ‘Billboard.’
Alas, despite stressing that the tour’s tickets were selling, in the know industry sources have gone a long way to prove that claim is more fiction that is fact.
For, perhaps unbeknownst to Iggy, ‘Billboard’ obtained figures from the tour before they met with her reps.
What those figures revealed? That certain dates were only 20% sold and would have seen the star perform for empty seats once it kicked off at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.
