Billboard Sources Claim Iggy Azalea Tour Was Stifled By Poor Ticket Sales

Reps for the rapper Iggy Azalea took to Billboard to claim a decision made by Nick Jonas and Tinashe to leave the performer’s ‘Great Escape’ tour was the reason it was scrapped.

Alas, their well-meaning attempts to clean up the PR mess the project’s demise has done more harm than good.

Find out how below…

As we were not able to fill the support slots on the tour in the fall, due to so many artists already having commitments and working this summer, we had not advertised or promoted the new shows since last winter.

The claim above was made by AEG Live Senior VP Debra Rathwell during a recent interview with ‘Billboard.’

Alas, despite stressing that the tour’s tickets were selling, in the know industry sources have gone a long way to prove that claim is more fiction that is fact.

For, perhaps unbeknownst to Iggy, ‘Billboard’ obtained figures from the tour before they met with her reps.

What those figures revealed? That certain dates were only 20% sold and would have seen the star perform for empty seats once it kicked off at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

      • MisdamenorFan June 5, 2015

Love her or hate her she will forever be in the history books as the first successful white female rapper.

  2. BOOBIE June 5, 2015

I knew that was the case. She and her team talking about they couldn’t fill the vacant spots for supporting acts. You know how many up and coming artists there are out there that would’ve LOVED an opportunity like that? She was reaching too high too early in her career with the arena tour. Po dat.

    • Barb-wire June 5, 2015

She thought she can pull off Arenas with fancy.

  3. Arie June 5, 2015

She must just forget about touring.

  4. @JanetCIARA_ June 5, 2015

They said it, We were all thinking it….
    She should have contacted Groupon!

Hahaha hahaha haha I’m so not bothered hun, just stating facts.

        Screaming!!!!

  7. african music lover June 5, 2015

Thank you for confirming what we already knew,i honestly think it was too soon for arena tours, maybe she could have sold 50% of those tickets when fancy was still hot,,i wish her all the best because i really enjoyed the new classic.

  8. Jhené Aiko Stan June 5, 2015

Maybe she should’ve sold them for $20 on Groupon. Lmao the author of this article is so hell-bent on bringing Iggy down, its truly pathetic. At the end of the day, Iggy should’ve known better to do arenas off her first album. She’s been killing it on small venues and theatres, she should’ve stuck there for now.

In other news…. water in wet.
No one should be surprised by this news.

    • Lana Del Fan *I Can Hear The Sirens* June 5, 2015

I was literally about to the “Breaking News: a The Sky is Blue” lol Fetty Waps left eye saw this coming.

  10. R.I.P June 5, 2015

Poor Iggy iggs You shouldnt have known when you had low album sales dat u couldnt barely sell out what make you think u could do a arena with 80 thousands ppl to show up when u only did 11k on ur album lol

  11. lolhart June 5, 2015

She should have done a theatre tour. There’s no shame in it. Other pop acts like Fifth Harmony started out that way and it helped them build up a fanbase.

  12. LB June 5, 2015

I think she should have just her tickets for $20 on groupon like Nicki Minaj

    • TRUTH SERUM June 5, 2015

The operative word is selling. Nicki is still selling and has several songs on the billboard. Different league!!!

      • Lulz June 5, 2015

Any of them ever been #1 on Billboard, sis?

  14. Rosie June 5, 2015

Don’t know why stans of another specific rapper are throwing Groupon shade when their fave is actually doing such deal on said site.
Iggy should’ve done a theatre tour they it would’ve sold out. Even Fad’s first tour that her stans still constantly brag about started in theaters for its first leg.

    • June 5, 2015

who is a fad f-ckoff, Nicki is no fad nicki build her self from the bottom and made her self a brand, from clubs to theaters, opening, acts, then her own tours then arena and stadiums now she can have her own opening act on her own world tours.i notice your delusional @ss loves to dis nicki and love to lie f- ckout of here.

      • Rosie June 5, 2015

        What stadiums?
I’m not dissing anyone, just stating the truth that said rapper’s fans are using Groupon as shade when their fave is literally doing the exact thing as she stuggles to fill up the same amphitheaters my fave is selling out effortlessly.

  15. JT June 5, 2015

Igloo cancelled… She needs to get deported back to her lil town in Australia tbh! She had the audacity to make a song called Iggy SZN because of Fancy’s success and she thought she was about to end careers, welp!

  16. UPGRADEBOY June 5, 2015

Poor iggy but she can still enjoy her memories as queen bey’s opening act in australia during the mrs carter show

  17. June 5, 2015

Nicki started in clubs, then small halls then opening acts. then she went on her own tour, she build her self from scratch. she didn’t jump on arena and stadium tours because she was hot and had a hot song out, she did it the right way and build her self up, mad her self a brand she as a catalog with her own songs and also she as alot of ft to go on tour with. like i said Nicki build her self from scratch didn’t take any short cuts. just like other artist who is going on these big arena tours they started from the bottom.

  18. UMo June 5, 2015

Confirmed the obvious. Everyone knew that was the real reason why. Had those tickets been moving, her team would not have allowed her to cancel it.

  19. TheElusiveLamb June 5, 2015

She has to start from the bottom like everyone else. Her team tried to made her such an overnight success with number one singles and A-List popularity, that they thought they could do the same thing when it came to touring. I’m glad it did (not bc I’m a hater), bc A-List is not meant to a 90 day, money back guaranteed thing. You’re supposed to build your artistry and brand to get there. Slow down Iggy, you’ll there if “God” wants you there. 😉

  20. LC June 5, 2015

They should’ve never scheduled an arena tour for her. It would’ve saved her from all this tour cancellation embarrassment. They should’ve put her right back in the studio from the get go. And then let her go on tour after she put out an album with higher sales (like 100k first week). I blame her team for this. They should’ve known better.

    • desi84 June 7, 2015

First week sales aren’t everything. It’s OVERALL sales that count. But I will agree that Iggy was never a big seller outside singles.

  21. Songs In The Key Of Bey June 5, 2015

Where is TI in all of this??? How come he’s not defending her like he’s defended her from Black celebrities coming against her. #sipstea

  22. SMH June 5, 2015

And Forbes said she was running hip hop…

  23. londontru June 5, 2015

wel wel wel, though ol girl was running Hip hop. Honestly this news has really complimented the sunny day were having in london. Time to throw some SHADE.
This igloo is trash. Her second album will flop harder than first. Her first week sales will be 7k. Her 1st single video will be amazingly by the song will chart mediocre on billboard. Then her album will be silently released and Flopped. She will get Dropped but they will say they parted ways. Creative differences. she will blame her label for everything. Her management will focus on her celebritiy to make money ala kim kardashian. The whole rap thing was just for a comeup and some edge. She will do the occasional feature rap.

Nicki stays on top as Queen B. White girls stay out of hip hop it is a black mans game. Hence why anyone who isnt a black man finds it so freaking difficult. Nicki is the eye candy . Dej makes catchy hooks. yeah.

    • desi84 June 7, 2015

Hip hop is a black man’s game. Ok, but just remember that one of the highest selling hip hop albums in history and the first to win a Grammy for Album of the Year was by a WOMAN named Lauryn Hill.

  24. King B June 5, 2015

    Is the sky blue?
    Is R8 out?
    Can britney dance?
We all knew the real reason

  25. Mark111 June 5, 2015

Who goes on tour with one hit? Ok two hits, same thing. What cracks me up is that they think we’re stupid, we seen tour cancelled all the time from lack of ticket sales.

  26. stan June 5, 2015

this was a victim of bad management. why would they do arena tours for a new artist? should’ve done theaters or smaller venues first.

  27. Kyle June 5, 2015

You’ve come a long way with this site and I understand that underneath the gloss, that this is ultimately your “blog.” But your headline is your opinion and your perpetuating a false story via another news source that is held to a standard. “Alas, despite stressing that the tour’s tickets were selling, in the know industry sources have gone a long way to prove that claim is more fiction that is fact.” What sources? That is your opinion and your readers – judging by the comments – clearly think it’s fact. I don’t give two f**** about Iggy Azalea, but the truth is, the article – with references and quotes – states the tour was selling. I don’t know what happened to you, but I hope you can make a change and stop negatively influencing your readers on multiple artists (i.e. Rihanna) and be the change to make a positive impact, especially for women, which you seem to lambast constantly. I’m done. #deletesbookmark

    • Even Stevens June 5, 2015

THANK YOU!!!!! This site has become a joke run by jokes.

    • Londontru June 5, 2015

O please stfu this whigger has had two hits how would she sell out an arena??? Lets think this through logically. White privelege will only get you so far . Her and her racist team should have not got too ahead of themseleves. Also TI is a sellout & that is such a bloody shame. But unsurprising

    • nicko June 5, 2015

U’re so naïve smh. We all know iggy’s tour was not doing fine. Ppl dont like her and her albums flopped ????. TGJ didnt say anything wrong.

    • desi84 June 7, 2015

You’re clearly in denial. Grapejuice may be negative or biased but it is one of MANY blogs and news sites that have stated low ticket sales being the cause for her tour being cancelled. The quotes state that Iggy was selling at a WAY lower rate than expected. If you’re gonna do an arena tour you have to make sure you sell ENOUGH seats to cover the costs. Why would BOTH of her opening acts just leave the tour like that? Clearly the tour wasn’t selling enough to cover the costs.
