Chart Check: The Weeknd Replaces Himself At #1 on Hot 100

Canadian crooner The Weeknd continues to prove himself 2015’s breakout success story.

As if landing his first number one on the Billboard 200 with his sophomore release ‘Beauty Behind the Madness’ was not enough, the singer/songwriter followed suit with a summer-long domination of the Hot 100 with hits ‘Earned It’ and ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ – his first #1 on the tally.

Now, after his history making trek of being the first male artist ever to top Billboard’s album, single, and “artist” charts simultaneously, he etches his name in record books again by replacing himself at #1. Dethroning his own ‘Face’ with hit ‘The Hills,’ Weeknd becomes the first male artist of the decade to replace himself at the top of the summit (11th overall).

All of this while ‘What Do You Mean,’ the comeback singer of fellow Canadian crooner Justin Bieber, logs its third week as the country’s best selling single and ‘Hotline Bling’ (by Canadian crooner/rapper Drake) notches the week sole new entry in the top 10.

Canada is clearly running things on US charts…

I cringe when his fans calls him the new MJ. They needs to stop with that “New this & New that”. Just let these artist be the “new THEM”. Congrats Weekend

Thank you @stephy. God forbid people actually LISTEN to an artist and realize their sound, style, and subject matter and overall artistry is different than they’re predecessor… Lil Kim stans

I like her a lot. She has a cute face, s*** body, and nice little voice. She’ll easily go platinum this era. But I heard that the day she’s doing the stadium venue is like the most important day for 90% of the high school students because they have to take a college test. I don’t how well she’ll do with the ticket sales if she doesn’t reschedule because that’s pretty much her main target audience. At least she’s headlining a stadium so early, though.

I give no f**** about any of that, I just wanna see her

I’m still mad about how he’s been treating black women. I refuse to support him because he thinks he’s above black women, even when his own mother is a black woman. I’m tired of it! Let him have fun with his eighteen year old servant, but when she takes that money and runs like hell, he better not cry into the arms of a black woman. Tired of these self-hating teasers!

Look at what happens when rnb is promoted by a label.
    Good job Universal Republic.
I hope Nicki and Drake stay with Republic after they leave Cash Money b/c they promote their blk artists………………..
Imagine if RCA promoted BET, Cold Sweat, & Bated Breath to Top 40 radio for Tinashe.

I see you king drizzyy! Hotline Bling is my s***. Radio is about to start wearing it out though

The welfare barbs are a joke. With 20 singles and 20 additional features their plastic fave can’t see platinum

      • Centurion September 24, 2015

        She’ll get there some day.
