Jay Z Victorious In ‘Big Pimpin” Copyright Trial

Published: Saturday 24th Oct 2015 by Sam

It’s celebration time in the Carter household this week.

Fresh from pulling off a successful TIDAL charity fundraiser, both Jay Z and Beyonce have scored major wins in the courtroom over the last two days.

As reported, a federal judge ruled in favor Queen Bey by dismissing a bogus lawsuit levied against her and her song ‘XO.’

Now, media mogul Jay is able to rejoice after her landed a similar win in regard to his hit ‘Big Pimpin”

As previously reported, the rapper  was accused of using Egyptian composer, Baligh Hamdi‘s 1957 track ‘Khosara Khosara‘s Arabic melodies in his 1999 hit.

However, the US district judge Christina Snyder dismissed the lawsuit against the 45-year-old and  producer Timbaland before it went to a jury at a federal court in Los Angeles. She ruled that the heir of an Egyptian composer lacked the right to pursue a copyright infringement claim.

Osama Fahmy, nephew of Hamdi, filed the lawsuit against the singer claiming that the singer and his producer didn’t have the late Egyptian composer’s permission to sample the song’s flute notes.

Ultimately, Fahmy lacked standing to pursue his claim, so, it was not necessary to submit to the jury whether ‘Pimpin’ infringed ‘Khosara Khosara’. {Source}

Interesting. Very much so.

Essentially, a technicality meant the alleged evidence was never presented to the jury and the case was dismissed accordingly. A quite different predicament to that of Beyonce, whose case did consider the evidence and was dismissed based on it.
