Tamar Braxton Remarks On ‘Calling All Lovers’ Album Sales

While this week brought chart triumph for Janet Jackson, the narrative was altogether different for Tamar Braxton.

The media maven (whose multiple titles include singer, reality star, and talk show host) released her new album ‘Calling All Lovers,’ but sadly not many answered.

Despite a decent dalliance with promo, the set only managed a #5 debut on the Billboard 200 with sales of 38,000 – exactly one-third of the 114,000 2013’s ‘Love & War’ opened with.

Ever outspoken, Tamar took to Instagram to muse on the matter. Her words below…

Via Tamar:

I’ll take whatever you have for ME Jesus! It is good enough for me..YOU GOD is good enough for me..and you make it that I’m GOOD enough for ME!!!Cause only YOU know what the end result is!! Thank you so much God and #tamartianfriends I’m just Grateful this album came out (☝????️if u only knew)???? the BEST part of it all you all LOVE it like I do!! This album healed me, saved me,Gave me hope and strength while making me laugh and cry! Who cares what anyone says or thinks or who bought it..who didn’t buy it (dont cheat yourself????)..Hell..even if u Stole it????????#callingalllovers is my BEST work and I’m PROUD of it no matter what! See u on tour with @therealmaryjblige AND @musicbykem

Fan appreciation aside, Ms. Braxton is clearly hinting at drama behind the scenes – something she’s been doing before the project even came out.

It does make one wonder how much more, if anything, will be squeezed out from the LP given the hoopla (and lack of sales).

We imagine she’ll tour like there’s no tomorrow (ala her last album cycle), and perhaps establish a successful face to the campaign that way.

To be frank, there’s no other choice.

Your thoughts?

Now if she had sold over 100k she would have shaded Janet like she did that chick from love and hip hop. Im in no way religious, but people only turn to Jesus when things dont go their way…

  2. TY October 14, 2015

Heres the problem with Tamar’s CD, Sales and Promotion:

    1. Sings the WRONG songs on PROMO: KING and BROKEN RECORD are the songs. Broken Record sounds like a hit.

    2. SIMPLE THINGs is 100% the women/gay anthem of the year for the lovers. This is probably the best song TAMAR has ever done. GET THIS SONG to radio. The younger and older crowd would embrace it.

    3. Catfish, Dont have you, circles are all fillers. Stop performing them.

    4. Image — the Brown short hair is a plus, the weight loss is a plus. The IG Gay dude who styles Marlo Hampton if he can keep off Gay sites and focus on clients – he may be a win-win for Tamar, she looks great. Leave the old lady Mary J blonde wigs at home.

    • suckingyoutonight October 14, 2015

Broken record is horrible the worst song I love you is the hit hun

      • lisa489 October 14, 2015

        GIRL BYE

BROKEN RECORD IS THE BEST SLOW JAM ON THIS RECORD AND SIMPLE THINGS IS THE BEST SONG SHE HAS EVERY RECORDED

        GRAMMY AWARD FOR SIMPLE THINGS.

    • lisa489 October 14, 2015

      TY I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE YOUR POST.

I’M SO DISAPPOINTED THAT “SIMPLE THINGS” IS NOT THE GO TO SINGLE. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE????????????

SIMPLE THINGS IS HUGE AND THEY IGNORE IT FOR CATFISH AND THAT OTHER SCREAMING SONG SMH

  3. lisa489 October 14, 2015

love simple things i was wondering the same thing

  4. gilbert October 14, 2015

l o l.. kindda feel bad for her

  5. Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) October 14, 2015

Like I said in a previous post before the results were known, she had a 75% drop in support, in a few years!

Also like I said, she sold what Janet did out the gate last time. Tamar is on tv shows and did plenty of promo.

She is also a ‘newer’ artist than Janet. Everything was in her favor to get better numbers but she didn’t.

People just hate that Janet did 4 times better.

Good luck to Tamar. Her album has some great material..

    • Rob C October 19, 2015

She is not new this is her third album. She flopped,so excuses are not needed. She should get off her high horse and come back to reality. She couldn’t win a Grammy nor get her new CD sells up. This time around she couldn’t use her sister, husband or lady Gaga’s name. She’s a flop.

      • llawrence October 19, 2015

You took the words right out of my mouth. They said she has not been on her little TV show cause she is sick, my ass she thought she was going to sell millions of copies. Her music is not all of that, the girl can sing but she is not a hit maker or a superstar. I don’t feel sorry for her she might now calm her ass down and stop being so loud. I know K. Michelle is somewhere laughing her ass off.

      • Marshawn October 29, 2015

When either of you sell anything then you should talk until then let ppl be who they are going to be. trust me selling albums is not what makes someone a hit maker. It’s music that can actually reach somebody. Also for your information LLawrence K Michelle tweet that she loved the album so suck on them apples!

      • llawrence October 29, 2015

Who the hell do you know that had a flop ass album but it was a hit? 38k is a flop and the muppet knows that. K.said that cause it was the right thing to do but trust and believe K.and a whole lot of other people laugh like crazy. So deal with the fact that the muppet does not have what it takes.

      • Islanskyt December 6, 2015

Tamar is a joke…watching her in her family’s show let everyone see how disrespectful she is to everyone and how she acts like a drama queen.. no wonder she cant sell more albums…I don’t understand how anyone could support such disgust!!

      • jylon Lee Wheeler March 27, 2016

Why you going so hard and hating on her she would announce it today that her album is selling again good she even sold more then Rihanna it’s really the people in this generation that’s why album sales are so poor if it was off of Toni Braxton her husband and Lady Gaga she will have way more album sales than that

      • llawrence March 27, 2016

Check your facts she did not sell more then RIRI

    • Llawrence June 20, 2016

Rihanna when Platinum because Sony bought it check them facts about that shade

      • Llawrence June 20, 2016

  6. shakira stan October 14, 2015

Can you post about our brother who the kardashians is about to kill….if anything happens to Lamar ,the backlash the karrdashians will get will be too much for them to handle .

  7. Navy Nick October 14, 2015

I have heard nothing but amazing reviews about this album Tamar. I am actually going to buy it now on iTunes; my first week just had to be about my Queen Janet, I’m so sorry babygirl…. But I must say LEA U MADE ME LAUGH (u ain’t lying), and TY I have heard the same things so apparently someone needs to listen to the fans because they all are saying the same songs will slay radio. Let me buy this album & listen.,

  8. Sean October 14, 2015

It will be nominated for Grammys no one is singing like her in R&B, along with Jazmine Sullivan, and Miguel those the only albums i bought this year…i just dont feel Janet’s album at all…its soooo boring i prefer 20 Y.O and Discipline over this album

    • dee October 14, 2015

The reason why who relate to 20 YO and Discipline is because the content was predominately R&B. Unbreakable explores different sounds and genres that you are probably not accustomed.

      • Amanda October 14, 2015

Exactly! And, “20 Y.O.” & “Discipline” had predominately fast-paced songs on them too which, is another reason that person would probably prefer them over a classic like, “Unbreakable”.

      • Renzo585 October 14, 2015

Well said!! Some ppl are not use to different sounds that this album offers

  9. StrawberryMuffin24 October 14, 2015

Well Tamar album is better then Janet boring ass album for sure!

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) October 14, 2015

That’s fine that you believe that. The general public are clearly at odds with that assertion though..

Both albums are quality. I will leave it at that.

    • Jazz October 14, 2015

Both albums were good actually both women just dominated in different genres.

    • What now October 14, 2015

      Well TBH, I found neither album 2 b boring. I found Tamar’s 2 b her best and Janet’s 2 b her best n a while.

  10. Jazz October 14, 2015

The album truly is her best work and it is AMAZING. The last minute song compilation promotion Tamar did, the singles chosen, and the constant push back was the downfall of the sales. If songs like broken record and coming home should been the singles I think it not only represents what the album is going to sound like as a whole but better sounds better than released songs.

  11. really October 14, 2015

When Ciara sold 37,000 they called her a flop but everybody patting Tamar on the back?? didn’t Tamar try to shade Ciara singing but she’s selling as low as Ciara sold. At least Ciara can get a hit/certified song

    • What now October 14, 2015

Ummm Tamar took up 4 Ciara’s “singing” & define hit single, bc last time I checked, Ciara hasn’t had a hit since 06… possibly 07.

      • Niko Love October 14, 2015

Actually you know nothing Ciara last hit was I bet it went to number 40 on billboard hot 100 and it was the only r&b to get RIAA Certified with GOLD AND ITS THE MOST watch R&B video of this year so h** have a seat

      • October 14, 2015

Gold? really is that the standard these days? well the weeknd says hi with his x2 Plat hits

  12. LesB October 14, 2015

There is no question that Tamar Braxton has vocals for days. I love this album and the true R&B feel that it brings. Especially when So many artists are putting out bubble gum R&B. Someone else wrote, “broken record” should be a single and I completely agree. A lot of times the vocals are there. The talent and look are there but the singles released do no appeal to the masses. It’s happened with greats like Brandy. My only hope for Tamar is that she keeps on pushing! I will always support real music Tae-Tae! ????

  13. True Lambily October 14, 2015

Tamar spoke poorly of her siste Traci’s Debut album (Which was Fiyah Traci can sing her ass off and her songs were great!!!) and tamar also shaded K Michelle debut album sales as well so it’s a case of you Reap what u sew I don’t feel sorry for her she deserved what she got however I will be buying her album to listen for myself I have love and war and it was decent

    • Credits October 14, 2015

But traci used auto tune here and there…..

    • AmbeRussell October 16, 2015

it is funny she talked about k michelle, but k had one of the better selling rnb albums this yr, sad but true it sells are low and still better than most. tamar promoted poorly, random songs out of no where and single choices etc. but i always felt love and war was manipulated for the public to think the album and single were better than it actually was chart wise. like it was “#1” on itunes, but only peaked at like 40 on billboard. her show helped out a lot and her being a “new artist” did as well. but her hype came and went and the last album was not good for a 30 something year old like “she did that”, “hot sugar”, “one on one fun”, etc….those few songs made the album sold trashy for those in her age group, i feel.

  14. StrawberryMuffin24 October 14, 2015

Ciara flopped but her album was trash. Tamar flopped but didn’t deserve to her album is actually good!

  15. StrawberryMuffin24 October 14, 2015

I love Janet by the way and I’m happy for her I wanted her to be number 1 to prove all her haters wrong especially Wendy Williams hating ass so Go Janet!

  16. pat October 14, 2015

People Dont understand literally each year becomes harder to sale more records. Especially for r and b. The only black girls likely to ever see at least 100k again are big names now. Rih bey Janet Nikki sade. And whoever the new heir will b.

    • J.C. October 14, 2015

Yet K.Michelle’s ABWAH sold 87,000 copies in its first week without a song on the BB100, making ABWAH the highest opening sales for a R&B female artist in 2014 and giving K.Michelle two consecutive #1 R&B albums according to Billboard. The fact is Epic, Tamar, and her management are all at fault for her dismal sales.

  17. What now October 14, 2015

She didn’t promote her album the way it should have been. She also picked the wrong singles to release. If she had came out with Coming Home, Broken Record, Angels & Demons straight out the gate, the original 9/11 release date wud have been perf. I think she just has 2 focus on the long run. That includes touring and endless plugs on The Real, but don’t take up too much time, bc I love Girl Chat.

    • llawrence October 14, 2015

The problem is she put out 4 singles on her album and not one of them hit the charts before the album was released. So why would anyone buy the album. Also people are over Tamar the things that she has done lately nobody is feeling her. She is rude, and she acts like a teenager, not to mention she will say something about someone and then she will hide her hands. Artist who are selling out tours and having great sells on their work are not on social media all day every day. Now she has to tour with other artist that can sell out a tour cause nobody will buy anything from her as we can see only selling 38k that’s sad. Tamar needs to face it she is a one hit wonder.

      • Islanskyt December 6, 2015

I agree 100%..and she just needs to go away!

  18. Dev October 14, 2015

She started out the gate with the wrong songs. The album is good as a body of work, but the initial single choices weren’t right.
If Tamar had chosen “must’ve been good to you” i think that she will pick up sales if she makes the next single count and catch the ears of the people who didn’t notice the first time.

    • DJSay October 14, 2015

Right!!!! MUST’VE BEEN GOOD TO YOU SHOULD HAVE DEFINITELY BEEN THE VERY FIRST SINGLE

  19. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans October 14, 2015

You know what? Even though sales truly don’t matter when the work is of exceptional quality, I can’t help but feel that she’ll be alright in the end. I’m sure the album will get a gold certification. She released a flawless and memorable album that’s sure to be an R&B classic, and that’s honestly all that we should be proud for. She did her job by making the music, and her label messed get up plenty of times to make this era as unsuccessful for her as possible, so it’s out of her hands. She did good and that’s all that matters.

    • jazz October 14, 2015

How did the record label mess it up?

      • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans October 14, 2015

Multiple delays, little to no promotional appearances few far and between, lack of radio support (push payola to death of you have to to get that music played. I don’t even care.), lack of advertising/marketing on television, radio, internet, etc. And I’m sure there’s more that’s missing, but the biggest mess up was releasing the same day as Janey. Why would they be so foolish enough to do that to her?

  20. DanYiel Iman October 14, 2015

I’m sorry her whiny soprano voice doesn’t do it for me…Toni Braxton is the star & I own all of her albums, Why not do a Braxton Family album? I’d buy that! Tamar isn’t for me..Sorry Tamuppet Fans….

    • Daisy January 10, 2016

Why must people be so sick in their head and spirit. I don’t like or dislike this artist but what is wrong with somebody when this is how they have to be in the world? Sick!

  21. #JACKIE October 14, 2015

Her album SLAYS Janet’s. Tamar is a true vocal queen.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) October 14, 2015

No Janet’s album is slaying hers in terms of sales.

In terms of content Janet does a plethora of different musical styles and still made a beautifully cohesive album.

Tamar did a a typical r and b joint with decent songs. There’s the difference.

Also, everyone including kreashawn has s*** on Ciara’s sales, so find a seat @Jackie/@Moldy..

      #AndIThankU

      • #JACKIE October 14, 2015

Mad because Tamar has VOCALS sis? Janet’s whispers were cute in ’94, but they’re no longer needed. 😉

      • llawrence October 14, 2015

And those same vocals only got her 38k in sells.

  22. Usual Observer October 14, 2015

So much went wrong surrounding this album and I hate it because it’s SUCH a good album. Wrong single choices. Performing wrong songs. Several push back dates. Label drama. Literally, everyone knows it’s a good album and there’s no denying Tamar as a singer. But, what’s crazy and sad is that this is actually one of the better selling R&B releases this year. #stateofthemusicindustry

  23. Juan1n4Mil1i0n October 14, 2015

We all knew that with the push backs and the drama behind the scenes that the album wasn’t going to perform strong coming out the gate. But I have faith in it… She’s all over the television. She’s going on tour this winter, she’s top three on dancing with the stars… This is by far Tamar’s best album, and one of the BEST R&B albums of the year (Behind only Jazmine Sullivan and D’Angelo)

  24. Usual Observer October 14, 2015

Yes! @Juan1 jasmine Sullivan actually posted herself jamming to one of the songs on Instagram just yesterday and Tamar reposted if. I have both of their albums! Both great artists.

  25. #justsayn October 14, 2015

She didnt buy her own singles and albums this time! Thats why it flopped & yall know it!

  26. cassandra chen October 14, 2015

TBH Tamar album was just okay, it was not a great album. The only songs worth listening often was Coming home, Broken records and king. It got tiring listening to the album and her singing all the time at the top of her voice did nothing for her. Tamar is on TV everyday and want to be in everything should have done better. K Mitchell released did about 87,000 and she is not on TV everything, it more than just having a good voice and that is what Tamar fans do not get. Love and War was a good album, calling all lovers was most time annoying. Note to Tamar work on your live performances and vocal, and take advice from other people that messing you up big time because you feel you can do no wrong. Tamar fans need to be honest with her…

    • Crazy October 14, 2015

U need to be honest with kmichelle how much has awbah sold since 2014. Her first week sales a good. But what about now tramp

      • llawrence October 14, 2015

Her album made gold and she is now in the studio working on her next album now what.?

      • J.C. October 14, 2015

        Rebellious Soul:
        First week sales (72,000)
        #1 R&B Albums #2 Billboard 200 Sales to date: 260,000 copies

        Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart
        First week sales (87,140)
        #1 R&B Albums #6 Billboard 200
        Sales to date: 300,000 copies
        Source: Nielsen Soundscan

The thing with K.Michelle is that she’s done a great job with the limited mainstream exposure she has in comparison to Tamar. Yes she’s a bit ratchet but the numbers prove she’s increasing her fan base annually and on a sidenote she is extremely creative and hands on when it comes to the promotion of her projects.

  27. Lake Erie October 14, 2015

After listening to her album some more, I really like the majority of the songs on there except numbers 1,2,3 and number 12 is OK But not my favorite. Other than that, I really like her album a lot. I think if she continues the promo train, it could be a slow seller cuz the album is really good.

  28. Oscar October 14, 2015

    Braxton family Christmas is coming!

  29. Ciah’s Turtle October 14, 2015

Regardless of how much it sold, this is her best ablum EVER. And Arguably the best R&B album that dropped in 2015. Gag

    • Ciah’s Turtle October 14, 2015

      *album

  30. Taylor Tori Azalea October 14, 2015

Just illegally downloaded that Jazmine’s Reality show mess album along with The leaked The Documentary 2.5 and I have to say thanks God I did…… I’ll go buy The 2.5 this friday on Itunes just to be fair

    • Credits October 14, 2015

Forever don’t last, Mona Lisa, mascara, hood love, stupid girls and veins…if you think any of those songs are a mess it might be because you are used to generic love songs that do not depict a unique story.

  31. Taylor Tori Azalea October 14, 2015

Let me say this one more time Jordin sparks album is the best R&B album released this year followed by Calling all lovers/Jackie (which is pop or RnB?.! confusing….)

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) October 14, 2015

@Moldy we are keenly aware that you love mediocre to generic music. Not really a surprise hoodrat. I.E. your faves latter discography.

      😉

  32. Usual Observer October 14, 2015

Just wanna throw this out there. Not doing it for drama or to throw shade but I’d like to know some other peoples’ logical perspectives.

If 38K is a little less than half of 100K, which is seemingly celebrated in today’s music climate, why is 50K and less frowned upon but 50K more is celebrated? Also, if certain artists were to only sell 100K albums, they would get DRAGGED like no tomorrow and the comment section would be WWIII. What are y’all’s perspectives?

  33. Usual Observer October 14, 2015

For instance, if Rih or Bey only sold 100K or a little bit over 100K on their new projects, I don’t think they would be celebrated the way Janet has been. Why is that? .. I have a degree in PR. So, stuff like this intrigues me. Lol.

    • Credits October 14, 2015

Because Bey and Rih are megastars and are everywhere in the media so they are expected to sell way more than 100k.

    • ka October 30, 2015

I believe because janet did no PR besides walking through the airport with a new hair do Ala 1993 janet and that BET award. It was all fans and name recognition, what’s sad I heard people just were picking up Tamars CD cuz it was beside janets or Janets so happen to be sold out ; ( it was a quality CD from Tamar.

  34. Slay_Hive October 14, 2015

I love how humble she is about the situation. She is right though. The album is a masterpiece and I listen to it everyday. All she would need to do is pick the right singles and tour and the project will have longevity. As far as her selling less than Janet. It’s okay because Janet’s sales were not that impressive either imo and I’m sure the numbers definitely won’t be too impressive this week. Her album was too forgettable. Slay Tamar. REAL Talent!!

    • Amanda October 14, 2015

“not too impressive”,”forgettable”. Girl, go sit down somewhere w/ that b.s. (tryin’ to throw mediocre shade @ Janet). SMDH Do better!

  35. Ariel October 14, 2015

I think Janet had more sales b/c of the excitement and anticipation for her, since she’s been out so long. Just b/c she’s had more sales doesn’t necessarily mean her album is better. All the music I’ve heard from Tamar thus far has sounded good, except “Don’t Flex”. Also, if “No Sleep” was the standard for the rest of Janet’s music on her cd then I don’t think her album was all of that b/c that song just wasn’t good to me.

  36. King Mark111 /.\ October 14, 2015

Karma, she treated her family and friends like crap, beefed with people that did nothing to her or had anything to do with her. Tamar should had STFU when Latoya, whatever, Lil Wayne’s BM, was saying NOTHING about the K Mitcheel thing.
    .

  37. Casual-T October 15, 2015

I think she needed better songs and a couple of pop HITS. There’s nothing mysterious about this. An r&b album isn’t going to sell much better than Tamar’s album did. Her first album had the benefit of a runaway hit in Love & War; this album did not.
    .
She needed a couple of uptempo pop/dance cuts, a remake of some r&b classic (but not one already covered by another artist), and an anthemic ballad (think Stephanie Mills). If Tamar had submitted a killer album to her label, she probably wouldn’t have had the drama of which she speaks.

  38. Corey October 16, 2015

I believe the whole album was exquisite. “If I Don’t Have You” was a great promo single to launch it gave you an old school feel with a new school mix. The other 3 or 4 tracks that could have possibly been promos for her is “Makin Love”, “Love It” and a mash up of Raised the Bar” & “I Love You” with a video. “Love It” & “Makin Love” should have been released on the radio cause of the catchy beat and they are both something you can dance to. Tamar is an extremely creative artist that people overlook and the album is everything. She did an excellent job.

  39. Jade October 16, 2015

Tamuppet and her lame fans love to talk about others being a flop including Toni and k.Michelle, but at least they never sold no damn 38,000 or whatever copies. Lol

    • llawrence October 16, 2015

Tamar’s very first album only sold 100 copies, this album is her 3rd album three strikes your out. She needs to just stick to reality TV.

      • Diaab April 18, 2016

Goodnight , Tamar Is an amazing vocalist and should continue what she’s been doing. Being a singer is about vocal ability not sales, and vocally she had the best album of 2015, who is seeing her? Cause Janet damn sure isn’t. And 38K or not she’s still making coin. ??

      • llawrence April 18, 2016

Really, girl please do you know how you sound. Tamar did not have the best album in 2015 check the charts. If she is so good then she would have sold more than 38k. Tamar has done many albums and none have gone platinum. So with that said she is not a superstar and never will be. They say she has 2 million followers but only 38k got her album what does that tell you.

  40. Mo’Mortian June 16, 2016

I love Tamar Braxton and she empower individuals and businesses.. Tamar can sing and she gonna have haters. Tamar just keep ur head up girl.. Give thanks to God and who bought ur album… To be frank it’s not ur best work but u sure as hell killed it..
