He actually text me one day – I sent him a few songs from T R A P S O U L. He was like ‘Wow these songs are incredible’ – then he said these exact words ‘We want to sign you to OVO’. I was like wow and just stared at the text message for a minute…
“Then I spoke to my manager about X, Y, Z. I think it was about a month after that before I signed to anybody.
“I was bummed out for a long time – just thinking man… But I think I made the right decision signing to RCA.

I’ve heard about this before. To be honest, I don’t really get what the big deal is about Bryson Tiller. His voice sounds derivative of the likes of Jeremih and August Alsina (subpar singers at best). Plus, his Trap&B sound is so overdone at this point that can’t understand why he’s being touted as this hot new thing in R&B that’s doing something different. Pls, spare me.

I did and I wasn’t impressed. Basic voice, tired Trap&B production and nothing special lyrically. However, music is subjective so if he slays you, that’s fine. As for me, I’m good over here 🙂

Like someone said above, he isn’t doing anything that pretty Beauty Behind the Madness Abel, Jerimiah, August Alsina, or Party Next Door aren’t doing in terms of sound and style. I think what sets him apart are his lyrics. They aren’t as hard as August or club built like Jeremiah/Party Next Door, or as drug fueled as the Weeknd. That being said, it’s not much of a difference setting him apart and I fear he will get lost in this wave of Trap&B. Being signed to RCA won’t help. Look what happened to August.
Trap Soul has already outsold August, Jeremih and PND albums. It will outsell Jhene too. Stay pressed.
August’s debut has sold around 300k, Bryson is not there. And he has a ways to go before he outsells Souled Out, which has outsold Ciara’s last three albums combined. Even if he does, it wont change the fact that he is in a lane occupied by several other dudes and will be compared to them for however long his career is. Jhene is in a lane of her own. Nothing to be pressed about. Now go pick up another copy of Jackie then maybe it will pass Souled Out’s first week sales.
