The singer and star of NBC’s The Voice released her third solo album ‘This Is What The Truth Feels Like’ this week and the set is on-course to become her first solo #1 on the Billboard 200.

According to Hits Daily Double, the 46-year-old is set to to open atop of the US tally with first week sales of 68,000-73,000 – a figure which rises to 73-78k when factoring in Sales-Plus-Streaming .
If achieved, the feat will not only earn Stefani her first solo chart-topper, but it’ll mark label Interscope‘s third #1 in four weeks (following the successes of new releases from Kendrick Lamar and 1975).

The numbers may be a far cry from the 309k and 243k debuts of her preceding albums (2004’s ‘Love.Angel.Music.Baby’ and 2006’s ‘Sweet Escape’), but context is everything.
309k could only earn Stefani a #7 placing in 2004 (how times have changed), but she “won” by ultimately going on to go 5x Platinum. Similarly, she peaked at #3 with ‘Escape’ – which has since been certified 2x Platinum.
Now, with her first solo #1 essentially in the bag, one thing is clear – climates may change but Gwen stays winning.

I´m surprised by those predicted numbers. In this climate it is not a flop at all. Apart from the top artists of the moment nobody does over 70-100k copies. Forget the fact that a huge number of people who downloaded ANTI for Frih would’ve never spent money out of their own pockets to buy the album on iTunes, or driven to the store and bought it. Forget the fact that when something is free even non-fans will download it, if nothing else for pure curiosity. Forget the fact the album can’t be returned for those who don’t like it, because it’s free – Had I bought Anti on iTunes without listening to it first, I would definitely have requested a refund after hearing it (yes, they now do refunds if you don’t like an album).
How disappointing because had Rihanna put the work in to make an album people could actually enjoy, as she’s done in the past, she could’ve easily earned a number one album the FAIR way and it would’ve been DESERVED not PURCHASED.
