The thirst for Beyonce‘s new album ‘Lemonade’ has been real. So much so that upon the diva’s lavish unleashing of the LP, fans have been lining up in their thousands for a taste. None more so than in the US, where Queen Bey is set to debut on tomorrow’s Billboard 200 with huge numbers.
With the units counted, find out what the 35-year-old has sold below…
According to Hits Daily Double‘s FINAL count, ‘Lemonade’ will lunge straight to #1 with US sales of 501,000.
With sales plus streaming (SPS) factored in, Queen Bey’s total rises to 664,000.
The phenomenal feat is rendered even more epic when considering the fact the album is retailing for $17.99 – significantly more than any other release of the tally and $2 more than 2013’s self-titled, which was also packed with video content.
What’s more, the LP has only been available to stream on TIDAL (Jay Z’s platform, of which Bey – along with several other artists – are co-owners of). As at writing, the service has a reported 3 million subscribers – a number which though respectable pales in comparison to the 13 million of Apple Music and 30 million Spotify users. Put simply, the odds were stacked against the singer on the streaming front, but she’s proven her ‘Lemonade’ stand is unshakable.
For it seems being made available on the smaller platform ended up being a win-win; streams from TIDAL subscribers proved sizeable, while those whose allegiances are elsewhere simply purchased.
All in all, an amazing day at the Parkwood office for Mrs. Knowles-Carter!
