Leading Psychologist Suggests Rihanna’s Sexual Image Is “Damaging To Young Girls”

rihanna-that-grape-juice-9191181819

A leading psychologist has revealed that she believes images presented by Pop purveyors like Rihanna and Beyonce are going a long way to damage young and impressionable girls.

Full story below…

Highly revered in her field, Tanya Byron expressed her deep concerns at the Vogue Festival on Saturday.

The mother of two shared:

One of the things that bothers me as almost a 50-year-old woman is the pressure on women. As much as we say, ‘It’s brains not breasts,’ there is that pressure.

‘For my generation it is, ‘do you pump s*** in your face now to look like you are not 50?’ and all that kind of stuff.

‘But when you look at these curated images you look at these young women [celebrities] who are posing in a way that is so overtly sexual and these [viewers] are kind of minors. These are under-16-year-olds.

‘These are people for whom it is illegal to have any sexual interaction with, and often there are celebrities who are ‘selfie-ing’ every five minutes in their pants and their bras and I just kind of think ‘What is that about?’

What are we saying to young women about what image do you show of yourself? It is overtly sexualised.

‘It feels like the feminism my mum was involved in, in the 1960s, it’s dead now. We are back to ‘What cleavage have you got?’ I just feel really uncomfortable with that.

Thought she did not name any entertainers, provocative images of Rihanna, Rita Ora, Beyoncé and Cara Delevingne  and others were displayed during her presentation.

The Daily Mail adds:

During the panel discussion, Your Social Media: What’s Real Now?, she said celebrities ‘curate’ their social media profiles, which means they only share flattering – and sometimes edited – photos but give the impression that the images are a candid look into everyday lives.

Mrs Byron, 49, said many fans do not realise this and are sent into a spiral of depression and even eating disorders by their inability to replicate such polished beauty.

She said: ‘It is no accident that we are seeing a massive increase in eating disorders and self-harming in young people with the increase of social media use.

She added:

I do think they are linked and it does need to be thought about seriously and the curating of images has to be seen to have a massive social responsibility. In the wrong hands it can be incredibly damaging.’

It is not only young girls who are affected by this, with teenage boys also facing difficulties because of the rise of social media.

We are seeing more young men with eating disorders. Those numbers are really growing. Men do self-harm and they self-harm in different ways to women.

Of the conversation we are having with young people it does come back to images they would have internalised.

Do you agree?

        That’s not cute nor funny.
You may have an unhealthy obsession with Rihanna, that’ll likely end up in a restraining order. But you never bring medical illnesses into a petty ass internet debate.
You need to invest the time you spend living vicariously through Rihanna into your education and income generating potential.

Immature brats who don’t understand etiquette are the worst!

    • HailBeysus May 23, 2016

Lmao. Well Rihanna does have the most provocative image out of all them girls mentioned.

      • Rihboy May 23, 2016

Yeah and beyonces self titled p*** distribution and opening her insides for the Grammys is so much more classy. ???.

      • HailBeysus May 23, 2016

Lmao Thotanna sings about s** with multiple men. Beyonce sings about s** with the same man she’s been with for 13years.

Poor parenting is to blame. Why does your child have access to the Internet unsupervised in the first place? These parents are so quick to compete with each other that they don’t see that they’re hurting their kids by giving them adult luxuries which they use to access content which is not for them. My issue is with 5h though. They aim their songs at kids and have lyrics like “climb into my bed.” Their album is going to flop when parents clock how sexual their material really is.

    • FAF May 23, 2016

Y’all keep saying this but Rihanna is in more places than Internet

Tv radio mall cutouts etc s** is her Brand

  4. xedos May 23, 2016

Didn’t they say the same shyt during the Madonna era and I think those kids grew up just fine

    • Navi Boom May 23, 2016

Did they? Most of the kids today are the kids if those who grew up in that era. One look at all the nudes floating around on Ig is proof that something is wrong. Rihanna isn’t to blame though. Negligence is and sinister media power players who seek to sexualise kids are. Watch an Open Secret to see what I mean.

      • FAF May 23, 2016

That’s a lie Google bell hooks Madonna
She been critiquing her since the erotica era and her using black ppl as props

  5. Navi Boom May 23, 2016

You look real foolish girl. You’re clearly saying these things for attention. Real talk, are you being neglected at home.

    1) As if this wasn’t established in 2009.

    .

    2) Parents are the head of their households and they should be the one’s to control and monitor what their children pay attention too. Rihanna is a 29 year old Pop star who lives life the way she pleases and not to appease society, the same goes for many of her peers also.

  16. Danzou May 23, 2016

White supremacy and misogyny at its finest. Why wasn’t it harmful when Madonna was doing it? Why isn’t it harmful for d’angelo when he did it? Why can’t women express sexuality? How is it not harmful for men to do EXACTLY the same thing she does? Lol

    • JOHNVIDAL May 23, 2016

When Madonna did it it also got a lot of “bad attention”.

      • FAF May 23, 2016

Dangelo did it once and that was turning the male gaze on men for once if anything that was productive for feminism

    • Danzou May 23, 2016

Fake Danzou, why do you have so much hate for white people? I’m black and I don’t hate a race but I guess it’s because I’m no hood rat who should never leave the sewers.

  17. DIABETIC STROKE May 23, 2016

    1. DIL (the runs… the vocals the production to the tracklist art work everything. That era (2003-2004) was MAGIC. R&B heaven. 2. Self Titled (very consistant with strong songs. The wrightings on the wall of all Bey albums. Pure Art clear theme & direction. Even some of the songs sound like they already existed thousands of years ago just bey was the first to record them, specifically heaven blue háunted & mine. 3. 4 (im just now realized how great 1+1 is… i was here & best thing i never had party & love on top ugh!) 4. Lemonade (ironically the hardest to digest but thats the beauty of it. No other album ive heard have Raegae Country & Rock on the same album) (Still the album lacks taste at times most songs outside of Daddy lessons Sancastles & Freedom cant really compete with the better half of Beys Past Discography. Great cohensive concept, great built up & climax but it could have had a better closure than formation, also could have been more political charged toward the end outside of just Freedom formation & Forward like the much better “Super power” from self titled). yet Its lyrically strong and consistant tho hence the stellar responses by critics. Def should win or atleast get nom for AOTY) 5. Iamsf (great songs… well half of them. I am too mellow & SF not fierce enough. Hello & Scared of lonely would have done better replacing the last 2 songs on Iam…) 6. Bday (good not great album with mostly good not great songs. Sounds very urgent which was more consequence than ironic. Its amazing actually as you hear each song though yur constantly reminded it was recorded in 2-4 weeks. Still no other album like it past or present. Its a genre all its own.)

    • King Mark111 /.\ May 23, 2016

But when will Beyonce take the #1 spot?

  18. DIABETIC STROKE May 23, 2016

Rihsceduled has never done an album with Raegae Country Trap & Rock on it. Shes hardly influencing anyone on anything outside of maybe Getting Knocked out, having h.erpes or resceduling dates or Gaining weight. Poor thing one Piece of chocalate away from canceling another show.

  19. Weezy Tha Goat/ Zayn is ? May 23, 2016

Rihanna ain’t nobody’s damn mother. Raise your own kids and stop looking at celebs to do so.

  20. JOHNVIDAL May 23, 2016

Neither of them couldn´t ever built a career based on music and voice alone. That´s for sure 🙂 But at least Beyonce is great at several things. Dead at some people overpraising Rihanna like that for giving the best vocals of her career, as if that meant much… 🙂 🙂 Girl a woman at 50 years old like Celine Dion with such deteriorated voice (compared to what it was) sings Rihanna´s trials under the table and under the whole planet Earth!

  21. LB May 23, 2016

Which part of that statement did she mention Rihanna’s name?

  24. © Centurion : : . May 23, 2016

I didn’t see Rihanna’s name in this so-called “Leading Psychologist’s” feature who’s known for tasteless British TV programs. Quite a pathetic article. No wonder this blog is at the bottom of the barrel and literally not getting referenced by any external sources.

  25. © Centurion : : . May 23, 2016

Anyway, Rihanna is young and single and enjoying her youth. She’s not married. She doesn’t have an impressionable child. She’s no revered role model endorsed by parenting groups and politicians. On the other hand, Jay Z’s wife ticks all the boxes and yet she still acts like a høē with 5 kids all from different fathers. “Fierce” they call this Houston rat.

  26. No Stan Zone May 23, 2016

Majority of Beyoncés fan base is grown. She’s been out 20 yrs. Even Rihanna’s fans are mostly young adults. Parents need to monitor their children. Entertainer grow with their fans. No woman in her thirtites wants to listen to patty cake. We want to hear about the things we deal with. Cex, and love. It’s the parents fault if they’re allowing their teenage child go follow married woman in her 30’s with a kid.

  27. Ladylike May 23, 2016

It’s funny out of all women she tried to mention Rihanna. What makes any of these other women better than Rihanna. People be so pressed over gorgeous black women. It is not Rihanna job to raise any body else’s kids. You mothers are lazy, trying to be your child’s friend and is not responsible. Rihanna is FREE she don’t owe a mother and her child s***. I get tired of you haters criticism toward certain things women.

  28. Ayyseify May 23, 2016

Also where the f*** does she mention Rihanna? Yet she is the headline of this f****** article tgj swear they ain’t biased but clearly so

  29. King Mark111 /.\ May 23, 2016

Click bait is real! But anyway, you the parent are responsible and should be in control. But a singer that your brat never even met.

  30. The Kpop Guy, Matt~ May 23, 2016

    LMAO
But rihanna did not commit bestiality with a camel and create a hybrid child that gets its impressions from its she hulk mother?

      STFU SONG-WU!!

  31. The Kpop Guy, Matt~ May 23, 2016

Side note: it’s a kii when I think about how the mosquitoes said that, 4 5 seconds was a dolly Parton reject but “zaddy lessons” sounds like it was made by those hillbilly’s in the wrong turn movies

  32. Reddish tran ivy blokz Need UK timely May 24, 2016

It sad how people let their children look up to celebrity

  33. Thando May 24, 2016

S** sells and its been selling since the beginning of time. Everyone prefers an image that alludes to f******. Celebrities are by nature avaricious narcissists. Its your duty as an informed parent to not expose your child to celebrities who use their bodies for their success (nearly ALL of them). I agree feminist theory has been transformed by Beyonce’s, Rihanna’s, Khardashians etc into this para-pornographic fetish. Feminism is not posting a photoshopped picture of your nakedness and then publishing it to your MILLIONS of followers. So celebrities themselves are guilty by association, they can’t run from that. That’s why they have bodyguards because they know out of all their many fans there’s someone who is truly sexually disturbed and obsessed with their overly sexual social media images. A pop starr in Japan just got stabbed more than 12 times by an obsessed fan. Plus don’t be fooled, Beyonce will most certainly NOT allow her daughter to post the kinds of pics she posts.

  34. What Now May 24, 2016

Why do parents expect entertainers to raise their children and not them?

  35. Rory May 24, 2016

Why is Rihann’s name in the headline if no names were mentioned. Plus she wasn’t the only name you suggested in this article …. Smh
