New Song: Rihanna – ‘Sledgehammer’

Published: Monday 27th Jun 2016 by David

It’s here!

Rihanna has unleashed the new single ‘Sledgehammer.’

As reported, the song (which is soaked in all sorts of grandeur) is lifted from the soundtrack for the ‘Star Trek: Beyond’ movie.

It forms part of a unique strategy that has seen the Bajan sensation release a slew of new songs not featured on her polarizing ‘ANTI’ album. The most recent, before this, being Calvin Harris cut ‘This Is What You Came For.’

Is RiRi about to swing her way into the top of the singles charts again? Take a listen to the Sia penned ‘Sledgehammer’ below and let us know!

Your thoughts?

It is absolutely amazing. She better be ready to collect another #1. I hope she performs this at the Oscars.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

LOL Boy your low standards are absolutely disheartening 🙂

      • LB June 27, 2016

And the fact that you think I have a f*** to give about what you have to say is disheartening.

      • Rihboy June 27, 2016

Your so salty all the time ????!!!! This is solid!!!

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Do you think she´ll be able to do something like this on a stage like the oscars one?:

      • LB June 27, 2016

Do you think I care about your opinion?

      • GoGo Yubari June 27, 2016

You goons said the same about Love on the Brain & she slayed it! It is the most watched performance from the BBMA w/over 9 million views. Not only will she sing it she will slay it. Stay pressed

      • Coolness June 27, 2016

Look, even though I like Rihanna, I’ll be the first to point out her not always tapping into her pull potential. However, your comments always come across as condescending towards artists not named but are not limited to Whitney, Mariah and Celine. If Rihanna fans wanna enjoy their fav’s vocal growth (which she has shown in recent times), then LET THEM! I rarely feel second-hand embarrassment for others – especially for folks online but you going hard in the paint trying to convince Rihanna’s FANS as to why they shouldn’t like her or why your taste is somehow superior because you like Lady Gaga (very talented woman btw) is petty and to be honest, pathetic.

      • Navy Captain June 27, 2016

Lol Lady Gaga’s pop music career is dead. It’s funny how much you try to convince the Navy that this Flop b**** who couldn’t stay relevant past 4 albums is something special. Have a seat please.

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

It´s hilarious to see how much you are focusing on me lately, when I visit a Rihanna post like just once a week? And Lord knows you have at least 2 articles with Rihanna every day here LOL So it´s not that much, is it? Why don´t you focus on the trolls in this site who refuse to support talent? Maybe you should do that. Me visiting a post and saying some truths is hardly embarrasing. Now bye.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Oh you obviously give a f*** since you are replying. I know for a fact nobody is so deluded in life meaning I know it hurts you deep inside knowing the facts people say about Rihanna´s lack of talent or selling power are true.

      • LB June 27, 2016

Blah blah blah, song is amazing and Rihanna sang it well, that is all that matters. Take you irrelevant as$ somewhere else and off my reply section.

    • KenyaInFormation June 27, 2016

Baby, the Oscars are ran by thespians, rich, educated old white people. They love them some talent. Rihanna at the Oscars?

    • Fancy BISH June 27, 2016

I’ll always think of Peter Gabriel when I see the song title Sledgehammer, but I like this…get dem hits Miss RiRi

      • GoGo Yubari June 27, 2016

        Me too!!! LOL

  2. LB June 27, 2016

She served vocals and range, I am living for the growth this era. Absolutely amazing.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Growth? Wasn´t that what her team tried last year but flopped hard and had to cancel the whole project and record new easier songs once again to at least have a quick #1 single like Work, which is her only saving grace? 🙂 Yeah growth! LOL Look nobody takes Rihanna seriously enough as to want to listen more mature material from her. She´ sjust not that type of artists. Sorry to break it to you.

      • LB June 27, 2016

Blah blah blah, ain’t nobody got time for that novel. The song is amazing whether you like it or not and Rihanna sings it extremely well. End of.

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

That comment is a novel for you? LOL No wonder why you are attracted to basic entertainment and nothing else. Please get a brain.

      • LB June 27, 2016

Where is LG5? Worry about that.

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

It´s hilarious teh only thing someone like a Rihanna basic fan can stick to is some type of retarded argument not related to what is discussed. Lady Gaga is 20 times the artist Rihanna is. But that´s not the topic. The topic is Rihanna is quite talentless. And you have zero arguments to deny that, or to deny her absolutely basic album sales from the beginning of her career to this day. I´m not focused on L% or however you call it. When it comes I´m sure I´ll be able to enjoy it, since she has talent. My focus is more on Mariah Carey slaying vocally every night this year for example. That is one of my true favorites. Try again with another non-argument hun 🙂

      • LB June 27, 2016

Still waiting for LG5s release date, at least Rihanna has got music out, where is Gags?

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Again? How is that an argument? We are discussing Rihanna´s talent (lack of) and her constant desperate attempts at single releases. Not Gaga. Now that you mention it Lady gaga´s lowest first week sales are higher than Rihanna´s best first week sales in her whole career 🙂 🙂 🙂 It´s not like it matters, since she posesses talent in abundance and can slay and have a career out of commercial releases like she has been proving. Rihanna on the other hand will have to keep sticking to her constant singles prepared for radio and stremaing releases cause she doesn´t have a career out of that. As proved epically last year when she had to cancel her attempt at a better album 🙂

      • LB June 27, 2016

That entire novel and yet nothing mentioned about LG5s release date, did Interscope shelve it? Doesn’t she have an Apple music exclusive or something, priority is Drake I see.

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Can´t you understand that´s not any type of argument? Can you explain to us why Rihanna has no talent? Why does she have to stick to generic releases if she doesn´t want to end her commercial run cause she wouldn´t survive otherwise like someone like Lady Gaga can? Rihanna´s run on music business will be remembered as basic as it gets, sales wise (can you explain to us why Rihanna has barely sold more albums than Lady Gaga with like 8 relases while Gaga has 4 or so?) and well, talent wise… 🙂 🙂 🙂

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Once again like I said: No, I don´t have any update on LG5 release date. Not taht i care about when it comes. I just enjoy music when it´s released, and especially enjoy talent. Somthing one cannot do with Rihanna that´s for sure. But I see you are interested so I think I heard Gaga will release a second Jazz album with real vocals and understanding of music on it 🙂

      • LB June 27, 2016

Oh god you’re still writing these novels when you know I’m not going to read them.

Just enjoy the music or write that rubbish for someone who cares to read it.

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Mate. We know you read it 🙂

  3. #JACKIE June 27, 2016

    Sounds like a Sia song…

    • Sam June 27, 2016

      Sia wrote it.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Yes it sounds like Sia song, except for Sia´s amazing vocals being replaced by goat-ish noises 🙂

      • Terny June 27, 2016

        *screams*.. ??..

  4. RihNaj June 27, 2016

Amazing love that she dosnt stick to just one genre …queen of Versatility

  5. Kelvin June 27, 2016

I see a john Vidal being mad cause this is yet another rihanna song this year that’ll reachable peak beyonce can’t reach ever again in her career.

It’s absolutely ok to be mad. I would be too if I stanned beyonce

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

LOL I don´t like Beyonce. Still haven´t listened to any song from Lemonade so far 🙂 How does it feel like being so inside the fanboy buble that you think everybody who states a fact about Rihanna is a Beyonce fan?
Rihanna cannot stp releasing singles cause she knows that´s her only strenght (not that this is going to be a hit or anything). Meanwhile her selling power or respect from the industry and audiences in general are nowhere to be seen.

      • Kelvin June 27, 2016

Just say u are blind. Everybody showers her with praises. And she’s definitely one of of not the most memorable female singer of this decade and even the 21st century.

        But u can stay seething

      • Kai June 27, 2016

        B**** stop crying
Youre just upset that Rihanna is catching up to Mariahs no.1s

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

        Rihanna praise???? LMAO

    • No Stan Zone June 27, 2016

Beyoncé’s doing just fine without the number one hits. Why even bring her up? The hive start talking about tours and talent you’d think they were doing you wrong.

  6. © Centurion ::. June 27, 2016

Its AMAZING! It’s atmospheric and lively and Rihanna’s tone is really good.

  7. B_Roni June 27, 2016

This song is so good. She can literally sing any genre of music and make it sound good. I think Anti has become my favorite album from her

  8. JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

I´ll definitely go see this 3rd Star Trek film. Enjoyed the previous two a lot and I love the whole cast they managed to put together for this reboot.

  9. © Centurion ::. June 27, 2016

Rihanna also owns the master rights to her music so she got hella paid for this song. Film studios pay the record label for an artist to record a song, but not Rihanna. All the money goes to her unlike your label s**** lessor faves.

    • LB June 27, 2016

And it’s a huge movie too.

      • © Centurion ::. June 27, 2016

Yes. Because Rihanna owns the master rights to her music, she’s gonna get royalties from the single too LOL. A true boss bish.

      • © Centurion ::. June 27, 2016

It’s not gonna be just one single check unlike an artist who gets paid by the label.

      • BEY>RIH June 27, 2016

Let’s not bring up checks and money when Bey is worth 4x your fave.

  10. The Realest June 27, 2016

Woah. That JohnDival person is really Embarrasing themselves by desperately trying to pick a fight. It’s so early in the morning too! I don’t really comment but reading that up there ^^ really has me worried about some of you guys mental health. Just enjoy the music guys! Screw sales! Yall not seeing any of that money anyway.

    • Kayla C June 27, 2016

      Agreed, people are loons

  11. BEYSTAN_ SINCE 1997 June 27, 2016

These Rihanna fans over here acting like she hitting some Mariah Carey/Celine Dion notes lol! She sounds good ( I’m the studio) however live is another story. Far as this song going #1 I doubt it!

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

First sane comment after the ones I left 🙂 They are pathetic level of delusional.

  12. The Thot You’ll Never Be June 27, 2016

    Tell her biitch bye, BYE

  13. Jennifer June 27, 2016

When an artist gets a demo they’re supposed to make the songs sound like their own.
It sounds like she practically layered her vocals on top of Sia’s.
The phrasing, technique everything is her to the point where it sounds more like an imitation than her song.
She kinda did the same thing with Same Ol Mistakes.
I want her to be more creative in the studio when she gets these song instead of recording them exactly as they are.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

As usual. What did you expect? You have to posses some musicianship to do that. She has none.

    • Janette June 27, 2016

  14. mikey June 27, 2016

SHE DID THAT! You trolls are funny. Can’t we appreciate when everyone does a great job!

She’s gonna bank from this song!

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

What does banking have to do with talent (lack of). More and more non-arguments lOL

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

5 more Rihanna fans mad at real arguments 🙂

  15. The Thot You’ll Never Be June 27, 2016

Good for them for deciding to include her via soundtrack instead of the film itself
It’d be great to hear this playing in the background if there is a goat slaughtering scene

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

  16. LB June 27, 2016

In addition to the song being released on her label and her owning the masters, she is also listed as a composer and lyricist alongside Sia Furler and Jesse Shatkin.

She’ll make serious bank if this song does very well.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

So now you are praising the same tactics you detest in Beyonce? You really think she wrote any part of this song or something? Or you are just proud of some money you are not going to get? Basicness at its best.

      • LB June 27, 2016

There is a difference between Rihanna and Beyonce with regards to writing credits, Beyonce’s writing credits are accompanied with lawsuits, Rihanna’s aren’t.

That said, you can f*** off my reply box now. Thanks.

  17. The Thot You’ll Never Be June 27, 2016

This movie is one of my NOT ANTicipated movie
It has/had opportunity since one of its actor’s passed away
But since it’s releasing same week as Ice Age and followed by s****** squad the following week, I just don’t see it for it

  18. Tray mcconnell June 27, 2016

Yall constantly try to shade rihanna like that s*** is cute and really it’s just obnoxious at this point

  19. LB June 27, 2016

Death, I just realized Samantha deleted David’s article and put his flop struggle article he tried to post earlier. You’re pathetic.

  20. Terny June 27, 2016

Her desperation is real… releasing a song from 2014’s vault… her time is up! ANTI=FLOP
    Work ft. drake=headache inducing noise
KISS IT BETTER = do I need to say it?.. DOA FLOOOOP!
… and now this song… attached to a “big” movie in order to achieve some form of success, but watch it sink on arrival! hahahaha ?? ?

    • Molly June 27, 2016

Girl a lamb talking about desperation? ?? The muthafuckin IRONY!!

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Anti has flopped really hard. Only saving grace sustaining her career are streams for her cheap digital singles. Nothing else. The sad thing is that her career doesn´t have a plan B. She only can do that: release singles. It will come sooner or later. She definitely won´t be having success elsewhere once generic singles stop coming.

      • Ayyseify June 27, 2016

John DESPERATE FOR ATTENTION, this girl is posting moo-moo videos I’m done. Let’s be real Mariah lost it she sounds like a dying cat. Peep her all I want for xmas mic feed video

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Can´t you f u c k i n g hear Mariah carey outsings Rihanna to death in those videos depite being 20 years older? She sounds like what? LMAO

  21. LND_Gyal June 27, 2016

Yeap… this is a tune. I think it should go to number 1. Sia shouldn’t of given this song away. Rihanna killed it, so Sia defo would have set the record a light with her vocals.

  22. KenyaInFormation June 27, 2016

Ice Age and S****** Squad are dropping around the same time. With better sound tracks im sure

    • The Thot You’ll Never Be June 27, 2016

      True this^^^^
Lil wayne and Twenty one pilots and friends are slaying the iTunes chart with listenable music

  23. sasay June 27, 2016

Star trek movies always slay at the box hoping it tanks because Rhi is somehow associated with it is a complete waste of time.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Those films don´t slay the box office. They do ok. But I really enjoy them (for the easy blockbuster type of enetertainment they are that is). Better than Marvel flicks to me. Rihanna being or not being there won´t change anything box office wise. It is absolutely irrelevant.

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Ok so now 4 retarded Rihanna fans thumbing down a comment about some box office FACTS regarding some films. What´s next? So pathetic. Give it up guys! Just admit you enjoy mediocrity. That it is a guilty pleasure you have and move on. Everybody has a guilty pleasure 🙂

  24. sasay June 27, 2016

all it really shows is how bitter some of you are…Didn’t Bey do well at the BET awards lastnight?..shouldn’t ya’ll be happy about that instead of being so bitter and hateful less than 12hrs later.

  25. Kelvin June 27, 2016

This must be the song that sia said she wrote for herself but Rihanna’s manager forced her to give up.

    • sasay June 27, 2016

give us the link to the article where Sia said that…some of ya’ll just be talking out your asses.

  26. Molly June 27, 2016

The song is cute.. Although it has nothing on TOWARDS THE SUN>>

  27. Molly June 27, 2016

The senior citizen “JohnVidal” is so bothered. Are you mad that rihanna is still relevant 11 years into her career and Gags become a massive hasbeen 5 years into hers?

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

If Lady gaga becomes a has been commercially wise I don´t give a f*** cause I´ll still be able to enjoy her talent. But once again, she´s not even a priority of mine, so once again, invalid argument! LOL These Rihanna fans are always so threatened by obvious truths regarding rihanna´s lack of talent and tactics to survive in the industry as long as she can by keeping it generic.

    • Terny June 27, 2016

And Ciara? wen last was she relevant again?? Ki

    • Keri Qween June 27, 2016

Grandpa John is mad Rih outlasted Gaga the gimmick queen.

      • Ayyseify June 27, 2016

Right she ran out of meat dresses and human egg gimmicks no one is checking for lady gargoyle anymore except tony Bennett

  28. What Now June 27, 2016

I thought the song was horrible with the comments above, but it’s cool. I’m sure it’ll work great for the movie.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

It´s not a horrible song at all. Sia wrote it 🙂

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

LOL Rihanna fans mad at saying a song she is singing is not horrible? 🙂 🙂 🙂 You know they have zero arguments when they thumb down comments just for the sake of it.

  29. Mimi June 27, 2016

    Lol John Vidal is dragging.
I haven’t heard the song yet so I won’t pass any judgments as if I already listened to it like some people above

  30. iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 27, 2016

Riri trying to sang y’all! She’s letting y’all know! …To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the song itself. It sounds like some outdated song written by Sia four years ago. I’m a much bigger fan of ANTI and I see how it didn’t make the album.

    • LB June 27, 2016

I think it would fit well on a different album. I feel Rihanna recorded so much material that she could have released two new albums. Anti, the current, and another featuring Nothing promised, FourFiveSeconds, American Oxygen, TIWYCF, and Sledgehammer of course, a more pop album.

I would have like it, but not better than Anti of course, either way.

      • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 27, 2016

ANTI is a work of art and I love how it’s curated, so I like the way of how Rihanna is releasing these pop songs as singles. It’s like she keeping these pop broads in check while becoming bigger than pop music itself. It’s quite genius of her

    • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 27, 2016

As I’m in LOVE with her vocals on this song, I keep rewinding the song and I must admit that it’s already growing on me fast.

      • LB June 27, 2016

        She did a fantastic job

  31. LB June 27, 2016

Well I have entertained the senior citizen long enough, time for me to concentrate on other things whilst I enjoy this new Rihanna song.

So glad my fav gives her fans new music.

South Africa is an unique country which is why some refer to it as the United States of Africa
I’m not black BTW, no one is burning anything in here
The only thing mainly negative and being burnt are Africans from nearby countries( xenophobia in one word)

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

      • Music June 27, 2016

*looks at your avi* says no the drugs

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

Yes definitely. Say no to drugs. Doesn´t take anything away from teh fact Whitney Houston could at her very worst at death´s door around 2003 or so still outsing this Rihanna in her 20s. Tragic! LOL

Maybe if Taylor closed her legs for one man she wouldn’t have loose drippy walls that sag down to the floor.
Maybe if Taylor stuck to having one man shouldn’t wouldn’t have seen more shafts than a miner.

  36. Stephy June 27, 2016

This song is a grower. She sounds good tho. Rihanna is very consistent. Always giving her fans something new & fresh. I like that. Honestly, I can’t stand “Star Wars”, “Star Trek”, “Star Planet” or whatever… But, I’ll support this single.

    • LB June 27, 2016

You should give them a chance, especially Star wars, absolutely a masterpiece.

      • Stephy June 27, 2016

Oh honey, I know all about it. My uncles & grandmother stuffed that nerdy s*** down my throat since I was a child. Star Wars & Trek are brilliant. Legendary & timeless tbh… But, it bores me outta my mind. I can’t watch that stuff anymore …

      • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

LB I hope with masterpice you are not refering to the last Star Wars film, Force Awakens. Formulaic and easy entertainment at best. Just like any Marvel with Disney´s touch behind type of movie.

  37. SixInchHeels, June 27, 2016

It’s nice vocally but the song itself is a dud.

  38. Let’s Be Real June 27, 2016

I actually like it but I wish Sia had kept it I kept hearing her voice in my head especially at the “I hit a wall, I hit them all” part. It’s a great song maybe a video that doesn’t consist of glamour shots and camera stares will take it over the top

    • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 27, 2016

HAHAHA I hear the shade towards the TIWYCF video and I’m not even mad

  39. iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 27, 2016

@John Vidal Why are you always solely attacking Rihanna? You pretend to act like some crusader of talent and true music yet you unveil yourself to be a bitter, lonely size queen. You will talk so much trash about Rihanna, but why don’t you talk about the other industry poptarts. Why don’t you ever say anything about Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding, Selena Gomez, or Megan Trainor, yet NONE of those aforementioned broads can sing this song they way Ri did. NONE of those aforementioned broads show the richness in the texture of their tone or the vocal growth Rih has. NONE of those aforementioned broads are able to transcend the genre of pop, yet again you just focus on some hyperbolized negatives about Rihanna. At this point, Rih is going in the historih books whether you like it or not, so save your energy and go find a man…

    • LB June 27, 2016

I would feel sorry for the guy who would be unfortunate enough to saddle themselves with such a talkative negative bitter queen.

      • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 27, 2016

Whoever it is may have to be tortured to listen to hours of ArtFlop

    • #JACKIE June 27, 2016

      Hes pretentious like his favs

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

What the F.U.C.K? LMAO I cannot expect anything different from basic people who support someone like Rihanna and all her basicness. But tell when exactly have I not talked trash about terrible artists like Katy Perry or Mylie Cyrus or Taylor Swift???? LMAO I always have.
The absolutely hilarious part of your comment is exactly that sentence where you admit Rihanna belongs to that group of talentless pop tarts. Priceless! LOL Rihanna fans…

      • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 27, 2016

NO, I simply mentioned the most popular artists that came to mind. You damn well know the difference in the texture and strength in her voice compared to them poptart broads. There’s a specific disdain you have for Rihanna which is ok. It’s your right to like whomever you do. However, you lose credibility, and reduce your voice to that of a sewer dwelling, hating 16yr HIVe member when you continue to lash out to make hyperbolized comments. You talk about Rihanna negatively because she doesn’t fit into your Mariah-Whitney box. Fvck yo box! Rihanna is in a lane completely hers where her greatness far supersedes anything you have to say.

      • Ayyseify June 27, 2016

Not John acting like Mariah performs. She’s a stand still herself even back in the day. You act like she on Beyoncé stage level or something

  40. Credits June 27, 2016

What’s the point?! This is a SIA song. The sound, the delivery, the lyrics, everything about a Sia written song says Sia. Rihanna sang it the way Sia would, so what’s the point? Sia should have kept her song.

  41. CherylSoldierr June 27, 2016

Her best song this era tbh

  42. IG : @mixedboy June 27, 2016

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

      Mad at truths? 🙂

  44. Gary June 27, 2016

@JOHNVIDAL you said lady gagas lowest week is higher than Rihanna’s highest. Lady gagas the fame debuted at 17 with 24k…

    • JOHNVIDAL June 27, 2016

She was unknown then LOL Do you really want to compare The Fame sales to any Rihanna album? 🙂 🙂 🙂

      • Gary June 27, 2016

Doesn’t matter. You stated that her lowest was higher than Rihanna’s highest. Incorrect.

  45. B_Roni June 27, 2016

Lol omg these comments . This really must be eating Rihanna haters up . I don’t think I have ever seen folks just start random arguments an extend the argument for a long period of time when no one acknowledged them to begin with. Anyway I just bought the song on iTunes.

  46. JohnnyGillNicoleScherzingerBrianMcKnightFan#SupportRealMusic June 27, 2016

Honestly this is a pretty good song, but it would be better if someone else sang it maybe. Rihject just doesn’t really have the power or vocals for a bigger song like this imo.

  47. Mark111 /.\ June 27, 2016

LOVE IT! She haven’t dropped a bad song at this era. Can’t wait to hear it LIVE. Never doubt Rihanna, I made that mistake with Love On The Brain. Oscar?

  48. Mark111 /.\ June 27, 2016

This is what she been up to the past 3 years. Making hits, great music and planning an epic 2016.
