Remember when Azealia Banks was rap’s new “it chick”? Recall that brief window when her Twitter wars hadn’t eclipsed her star?
Well, we do.
There existed a short spell of time (following ‘212’) when the New Yorker was the name on everyone’s lips. Rumors of high-profile collaborations were plentiful, yet many never surfaced. A fact which left folk wondering whether it was her attitude or creative differences that caused the canning/s.
While many of those questions remain unanswered, one of her would-be partner’s has been revealed as none other than Lady Gaga.
A rough demo of ‘Red Flame’ – a song the pair collaborated on – surfaced today. And it makes for a unique listen.
Word has it the track was recorded during the recording sessions for Gaga’s ill-fated ‘ARTPOP’ album.

Granted Gaga’s parts played like the audio equivalent of a rough sketch that would be revisited in more depth later, we’re liking what the track was shaping up to be. Especially from Azealia. She rode the beat like a champion jockey.
Fingers crossed LG5 sees Mother Monster continue to veer outside of the expected. As for Ms. Banks; we just hope she simmers down with the theatrics and antics so as to let her light shine. Because for all her shenanigans, we don’t feel all is lost.
I don’t even like these ladies, but I kinda hear something interesting going on in all this noise. I just didn’t care for the last portion (about 30 seconds), but it’s definitely a rough draft!

This could have been a big hit for Gaga and possibly the hit Azealia needed to go mainstream. I like what I’m hearing even tho it ain’t finished. Wonder what the final product would’ve sounded like.

Hmmm a little dancehallish pop club track. Such a shame the collab never went anywhere but moving on… AB’s finna SLAY with Fantasea II then Business & Pleasure then her first feature film Coco!
