New Video: Tinashe – ‘Superlove’

Tinashe rounds up her besties for a spot of “BaeWatch” in the video for new single ‘Superlove.’

The Tricky Stewart and Dream produced jam is the lead release from the starlet’s long-awaited sophomore album ‘Joyride.’

Due in October, the LP will reportedly feature additional production from the duo, as well as from Boi-1da, Metro Boomin, and Londoner Joel Compass.

And while folk will have to exercise patience to see if she’s delivered with the LP, no such wait is necessary for the project’s first visual.

Watch the ‘Superlove’ video below…

Slayed.

This is a case, point, example of how a solid video can elevate an OK song. For, the clip skilfully showcases each pillar of Tinashe’s appeal.

She’s stunning, which the many of the glossy shots highlight in earnest. She’s also a dynamite dancer, which was also spotlighted to great effect.

The latter was particularly impressive, because we’re in an era where the art of “performance” is being devalued and dashed in favor of banal beauty shots.

It always rouses us when a visual can strike the right balance between both.

A homerun.

Done but not gud, gud luck though. She nedds to stands out.

      • Becky August 12, 2016

        Better then rih!

    • Ughhh August 12, 2016

Ciara created this style. This whole song screams Ciara.Cute though

      • The Infinite One August 12, 2016

I know it does! Ciara should have never dropped it. I loved her before she became a red carpet model. I hated this song until I saw the video! Good job now I’ll check for her again. Tgj please no more Rihanna shade! We caught it?

      • Lake Erie August 12, 2016

Lol I didn’t want to say anything but they definitely took at chapter from the Basic Instinct Era… but after all those producers produced that album sooo *shrugs*..

      • FAF August 12, 2016

It sounds like Ciara bc she used to work w dream and tricky before they threw shade

      • 4everBrandy_Ci August 12, 2016

Ciara has already created her OWN lane. However the record does have a similar production to a few of Ciara’s earlier records. Tricky Stewart and The Dream did a great job with the production itself. I was concerned how Tinashe would deliver but she proved me wrong. But as a Ciara fan I have nothing against Tinashe because of course I support Ciara and Tinashe.

      • TheOuyonB August 12, 2016

Ciara did not “create” this sound. This particular sound has been coming out of Atlanta and Miami since the 90s. (I guess some of ya’ll missed it?) The Dream and Tricky Stewart produce this style, hence the reason you hear elements of it on Ciara’s Basic Instinct album, which both The Dream and Tricky executively produced.

    • FAF August 12, 2016

Loved it gave me Ciara That’s Right and Oh and Aaliyah Rock the Boat.
      And Trina pull over.

    • Casual-Tee August 13, 2016

Fans of jelena will adore it too… #craiglistvibes

  2. Dem Lessers August 12, 2016

My first instinct was to s*** shame but I’ll leave that to someone else. Being positive the video looks good and high budget…too bad about the song it’s promoting ?.

    • Hillary August 12, 2016

This song bangs especially in the car. It has a bass that is very subtle and when I listen to the song through Tidal or Vevo I can’t really hear it. However, in the car that bass sounds like a 90’s R&B hit. Sounds a lot like a modern take on “My Boo” by Ghost Town DJ’s. I’ve had it on repeat the past 3 days when I’m on my way to work.

  3. Aubrey August 12, 2016

I.d either give the vanguard award instead rihearsals without sales

    • Janet August 13, 2016

That is literally the worst video and song ever! If this is what you are liking and listening to, then you are not allowed to have opinions on music. Just terrible.

  4. Abel Minaj (Arianator Barb) August 12, 2016

SNATCHED!!!! The song itself grew on me a lot, it kinda reminds me of Superbass.

  5. Casual-T August 12, 2016

Only Beyonce can be Beyonce. Tinashe needs to find her own identity. But overall, the video is cute.

    • pat August 12, 2016

i didnt get bey from this….kind of a mix of everybody who came before tinashe…the same way bey is a mix of everyone before her

      • drake August 12, 2016

Same as you are the mix of everyone who f***** the p**** that put you to the world

      • Casual-T August 12, 2016

        Comment is dope @drake

      • A&R August 12, 2016

Def baby video treatment with Cold Ciara/ 90s dance R&B and Mya inspired by Jane t choreo. Not mad tho. It came together very well!

      • A&R August 12, 2016

This video def has Baby video treatment (dance break down on beach while standing on marble platform) with old school Ciara/ 90s dance R&B sound and Mya inspired by Janet choreo. Not mad tho. It came together very well!

    • meme August 12, 2016

I actually don’t seeor hear beyonce here. Please elaborate more. Tinashe dancing style is so different than Beys and her music isn’t at all like hers. The only comparison I see is they are both overly s***. But so is every other female singer lol.

      • A&R August 12, 2016

They’ve def leaned her towards Beyish style. When it comes to her styling her upper always looks like Bey… That’s the very feminine and long manes, less agressive choreo, very dolled up look but they’ve fused it with the Aaliyah bottom… Pants, sneakers and or flats. The choreo is girly but more intricate moments that involves more arms and leg combo than compared to Bey more burlesque choreo. If they ever decide to put Tin in heels #boom Bey would show up but that’s fine. Lol To deny the influence will make it worst than embracing it. Naturally Tin would follow more of the Janet meet Mya lane but her team sees that Bey theme is wining right now. so I bet they met her in the middle with what she wants for herself and what they think will work. This video def show the Beyfluence but with elements of other foremothers. But again, that’s fine. Every artist pulls from privious ones. It’s ok to celebrate that.

    • Dem Lessers August 12, 2016

I didn’t get any Beyoncé teas from this, why you irrelevantly bringing her into this?!

      • Casual-T August 12, 2016

Yoncé is on your mouth like liquor!

      • A&R August 13, 2016

I just called out a moment in the Super Love video that’s def cut out of Beyoncés’s Baby Boy video. https://youtu.be/8ucz_pm3LX8

In Super Love, you know the dance break down on the beach, with the platform? That same shot happened in Baby Boy. The long flowy manes of hair? Beyonce. That wasn’t Tin’s initial style. The shoulder roll with body paluse pump… By the life guard stand? That screams Beyoncé with her crew on the Naughty Girl video. Lol it’s ok tho. Just pull the receipts.

    • LOL August 12, 2016

Stunning girl and I see they went a little further with the budget, lol. The video was cheeky and she’s a really good dancer.

  11. Ughhh August 12, 2016

This song gives me Ciara vibes but I love the song and the video.

  12. Stefano August 12, 2016

    nope. like, a big NO.
When Aquarius came out I was super happy. I was this girl live, she is super dope but this thing is kinda like a Ciara/Nicki Minaj leftover. very disappointed.
Nowadays the only girls that are doing dope thing are Dawn Richard, Azealia Banks and IconikaXrated.
and well few other as well. but it seems like she lost her way. no one is going to remember this song in a couple of weeks.

    • Rihallah August 12, 2016

Okay but why did you post this exact same thing on R****? Who the f*** is iconikaxrated? Let Tinashe get her f****** single on Joyride is going to give us everything we’ve been missing JUST like Aquarius did after 2 On.

      • Stefano August 12, 2016

First of all because I am lazy, second because my opinion doesn’t change just cause I changed website.
IconikaXrated is a singer, just google her, she was Phlo Finister, you can find her Ep “Poster Girl” somewhere.

  13. WordsWithSam August 12, 2016

The video is actually pretty great. Tried to cram a few too many set changes in too short of a time (the night scene at the end feels rushed, in particular), but the song is just so unbelievably bland.

I like her, but this album cycle has been an absolute mess from start to finish. This is not the song to relaunch on. Hopefully the album has something more to offer (and not stuff we’ve heard or seen leaked) when it’s out in October.

  14. StrawberryMuffin24 August 12, 2016

Slay Tinashe best female video this year!

  15. Mark111 /.\ August 12, 2016

This will be a hit because of the sample. She’s so Mya’s child. A slash of If It’s Loving That You Want with the stage in the sand. But Aaliyah still holds the best island music video crown.

    • #TeamTinashe Stan August 12, 2016

Uh, you need to stop with all the comparisons you keep laying on this girl. Yes, she reminds us of Mya a bit (as I’ve said first on many blogs) but artistically, NO! Mya has never done a song close to “Far Side of The Moon” or “Cold Sweat”.

Let these girls breathe just yesterday I saw you comparing her to Sevyn talking about “skin color”. Their both great in their own way and they each have their achievements.
Y’all are obsessed with comparing female artists so much.

      • Mark111 /.\ August 12, 2016

Those are the main songs that sounds like Mya. It’s not a bad thing, but that wet ponytail is first era Mya. Take it as you want. And I wasn’t comparing Tin and 7, they are peers as in the next gen of r&B with a lot of talent, yet both just can’t get it right with these 99 singles. I’m starting to think that they both just don’t have it cause time is ticking. 2 On is her only semi hit and I’m starting to think that was luck bc the DJ Musty beat was very IN then.

    • BEY>RIH August 13, 2016

Actually the stage in the sand is very Baby Boy.

  16. ???????Chile, take this “Itty Bitty Piggy” to the market and make sure you hold her hand while crossing the street!??????? August 12, 2016

Take it for what it is! The video is super cute and somewhat original. This girl is a tough fighter, but I don’t know why she isn’t clicking with the general public.

  17. Islandboi242 August 12, 2016

Tinashe killed it! Loved the video it’s was a breath of fresh air! I didn’t get Beyoncé from this at all! Beyhive please Beyoncé is great but stop putting down other artist who just trying to shine themselves. We need to celebrate all our black artist before we don’t have none left!

    • 4everBrandy_Ci August 12, 2016

People need to get their head out of their asses and support these artists! Tinashe slays period! The video is amazing and she NAILED it!!!!!

  19. Memo August 12, 2016

Praising Tinashe yet shading Rihanna? The jokes write themselves. I like the song, but the vid is very basic.

  20. BEYHIVE_MINAJ August 12, 2016

I’M SHOOK. She slayed with this video, the choreography, the aesthetic, everything. This is a make or break era for her,I’m hoping she’s heading in the right direction from here.

  28. Rihboy August 12, 2016

Slayed! It actually kind of makes you listen to the song. Still a boring song. However few things to touch on. Why are we comparing her and Rihanna? Once again to different musical styles and directions. Rihanna’s more raunchy/gritty. Where as tinashe is more ditzy/poppy. Furthermore if anything this video just slayed Ciara’s next album all in one. Ciara fans should be concerned! Secondly, the theme of the video is borrowed. At some parts it looks like Ciara’s o. At some parts it looks like myas case of the ex. And myas like woah. I’m not saying she stole but those three videos popped into my head while wTching this. Overall o think the video was cute but don’t think it’s enough to make the song come out of the calamity it’s already in. I’m still cheering for her. Hopefully her next release is coming harder!

    • J-Mar August 12, 2016

This Does Not Sound Nothing Like Ciara Would Do Chorgraphy Yes Song No Ciara Dances Way Better Than This But Nice Video Tinashe.

        Please .

    • Rihboy August 12, 2016

This has Ciara/ mya written all over it boo. Whether you like it or not. Furthermore Ciara should be bothered. I just watched it again and it actually with right promotion can do better damage than dance like we’re making flops.

      • J-Mar August 12, 2016

Just Like A Rihanna Fan bothered About Ciara And Mya And Tinashe have several seats hater.

      • J-Mar August 12, 2016

It sad that y’all giving tinashe all this hype but are y’all actually going to buy her music and get her to the top no I really don’t see this going into the top 10 great video but the song itself no.

      • Rihboy August 13, 2016

I’m not bothered about any of those people you named ;because I don’t benefit from any of these people making their coin. However Rihanna is way ahead of them as far as stapling herself into the industry. She isn’t going anywhere. Those you named have plenty of work to do to accomplish even an eighth of what Rihamna has. Ciara has been around longer and has fell so hard in sure she will need a medic soon. Tinashe is still young and has time to turn things around. Mya is already solidified. Pretty much. Never mistake me stating facts for being worried. Rihanna gives me nothing to worry about. My tummy is full and wants more.

  29. #TeamTinashe Stan August 12, 2016

Was I the only one that instantly got reminded of Queen Aaliyah when that bird chirping and water waves sound hit in the beginning?

      Stop comparing ma’am.

  30. Vidiii August 12, 2016

When se did throw her legs in the sky when she was on the ground, I directly thought on Ciara’s Bet performance 2013.. It was like the same for me.. Ciara Got me good vibe in this video for a reason..

  31. Annalise August 12, 2016

The video is hot! The song reminds me of Ghost Town DJ’s My Boo. Very 90’s R&B/Pop. Still not 100% sold on the song, but mini Mya did her thing! 7/10

  32. J-Mar August 12, 2016

Can y’all stop with all of the damn competitions.. I see why artists get so irritated, bc y’all can’t see s*** w/o automatically saying comparing them to someone else! LET HER BE HER OWN DAMN ARTIST!!!!

But in other news I wasn’t expecting this much slayage to be honest.. I thought she shot a cheap video in a day to promote the song, but wow she susprisied me.. Slayed the visuals and dance!!! Give us JOYRIDE & Stop Playing Tee!!!!

    • 4everBrandy_Ci August 12, 2016

Exactly! There’s room for everyone and the fact of a few ignorant people on this blog is an example of how they’re so one dimensional. Tinashe is in her OWN lane. There shouldn’t be any comparisons. I did see Janet Jackson’s influence when Tinashe was dancing in that jumpsuit. Regardless Tinashe is amazing!

  34. Slayriah Carey/Nicole Slaysinger >>> your fave August 12, 2016

  36. Mark111 /.\ August 12, 2016

Say what you want, but I didn’t ever see that @$$ bounce from the left side to the right side until that girl on Empire did it. But hey, all I do is compare. 🙂

  37. No shade just Truth August 12, 2016

Tinashe is a very beautiful girl and very talented. However if you are a true #Ciara fan you know the song is very similar to songs that Ciara has created. See “Crush” from the evolution album. However Tinashe is working with the producers who worked with Ciara. Its not Tinashes fault, she probably has no idea. The video is nice but nothing original.

  38. 4everBrandy_Ci August 12, 2016

Tinashe slayed!!!!!! If people would OPEN their eyes and stop comparing these women artist to each other then they would appreciate their boldness and uniqueness. “Super Love” does remind me of Ciara’s earlier pop/urban records. BUT Tinashe always had her OWN flavor which this video right here shows her artistry and creativeness. This video has to be another favorite of mine because Tinashe is really a goo visual artist. The dancing is great and Tinashe is molding herself as her OWN artist.

People compare her to Ciara/Mya/Aaliyah because of course the dancing and visuals are similar in a few aspects BUT Tinashe has her OWN unique flavor to her. I’m a loyal Ciara fan and yes I’m LOYAL to Ciara. However do I’m not insecure of another woman artist doing her thing. A few of y’all knuckleheads act like y’all can’t support another woman artist YET y’all always want o bring up “stats” and whatever else to justify your bias towards other woman artists. Tinashe is really talented and I’m getting two copies of “Joyride”.#TeamTinashe #C-SQUAD

  41. Mark111 /.\ August 12, 2016

Where are y’all getting old Ciara? This samples Love You Down, a 90s bob. Early Ciara was Crunk, you’re thinking Ciara because she too sample a 90s jams with Body Party.

    • A&R August 13, 2016

You maybe right. I think tweet breakdown is what made me see Ciara.

  42. shenellica juneann bettencourt August 12, 2016

Nah, not for me, i found the video just okay. It kind of reminds me of the Fergie MILF situation where the video is better than the song but doesn’t make me want to listen to the sang by itself.

  43. Aunt_Jackie August 12, 2016

Really interesting mix of inspirations. Adorable video. Tinashae – if she keeps making videos that are fun and full of humor and great dancing – she could follow a path similar to Katy Perry!

  47. Mr.StLaurent August 12, 2016

She look superhot in this video.
You can also see it’s a high budget video, but still I watched once no need to watch a second time.

  48. A&R August 12, 2016

Finally thoughts… The song still isn’t “it” but this video is VERY good and made the song tolerable. Meaning, I wouldn’t get angry if I heard it on the radio or if she performs it live. I wouldn’t buy it nor do I feel inspired to create a dance routine to it. The video literally saved her from being written off. Also, I’m excited that her and Sev will go head to head with singles and albums. I don’t like for ppl to directly compete but it’s cool to see budding talent and wait to see who will naturally rise as the next era of icons and legends. They’re coming out the blocks together and can either rise together then collaborate or become direct comp or one can fall off while the other fly. This is good ish and the two will def help each other stay relevant until they find their sweet spots. Let’s go! Bring on good music and cool as videos. I’m ready! Tin, this video earned you another life. I keep telling myself that I used to not feel Beynce and was in love with Aaliyah and Letoya Luckett. Now, in my head…I’m part of the parkwood staff .lol I’ll give ya some Beygrace. Figure this s*** out tho. ASAP. Ariana Grande is your peer and is cruising. Watch yaself, Bruh!

  49. Slayriah Carey/Nicole Slaysinger >>> your fave August 12, 2016

The song is like a cross between work from home by 5h and anything off of basic instinct by ciara. So tintin is trying to mix pop with r&b now.

Did RCA really pay for this video because if so someone clearly got slapped & told to wake up.

The setting is great the colours, the looks and moves give this song a welcome boost.

    Very Good from Tinashe.

  54. Barb B**** August 13, 2016

She looks better with dark hair but the song itself is wacky and will still flop.

  55. Sherrele August 13, 2016

This is more Ciara/ Mya style. It was a good video. I enjoyed it. The song is not too bad. The video change my opinion about the song. Most times visuals do help.
