Emeli Sande is back and wasting no time hitting the promotional trail for new album album ‘Long Live The Angels.’
Fresh from launching its lead single ‘Hurts’ on BBC Radio 1 this morning, the multi-platinum chanteuse stopped by the station’s Live Lounge for a show-stopping set.
Backed by a full band, she performed an array of songs – including a cover of Rihanna‘s ‘FourFiveSeconds.’

She has a beautiful and amazing voice but this just shows that Rihanna tone and personality and just her in general makes the song a hit. If she had released this over Rihanna I would not have liked it as much. I still listen to next to me and what I did for love every day. Her and Chrissette Michelle are amazing.
I like her little jazz spin to it, and I could listen to her voice all. The main issue for me is that it doesn’t have the aggressiveness, anger and emotion the original possess. Nevertheless, this was for fun and it was cute.

Emeli is a traditional singer with an amazing voice. We are so used to seeing triple threats that we overlook the understated talents of blues singers like Corinne Bailey Rae, India Arie and Emeli. Emeli doesn’t need to rely on smoke and mirrors (i.e. controversy) to be respected in her field.
