Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’ll take it back to ‘Sexy Back’ – the inaugural chart-topper from former NSYNC leader Justin Timberlake.  The singer/songwriter – whose 2002 debut album, ‘Justified,’ established him as an internationally recognized solo act – braved the sophomore slump in 2006 with his second album ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds.’  The first taste of his “futuristic” offerings?  ‘SexyBack.’
Produced by Timbaland, the synth-heavy, funk-inspired tune was released in summer 2006 and skyrocketed to the top spot in its third week (where it remained for a total of 7 weeks).  Found atop the tally this week ten years ago, tuck in below to see who accompanied Timberlake in the top 25 in this week’s #FBF Chart Rewind:

Damn, look at that chart! So much variety and good music, sad that we don’t have much of that anymore.

Sexyback is still a bop, but that album has better songs

yesss @ FS/LS and Luda and JoJo slaying. Show Stopper and London Bridge were my s*** too
a lot of Pop and R&B numbers from back then I used to love love love but there was also a lot of unnecessary crap from half-assed Rock bands huh

The lambs are shook, one sweet day record is in jeopardy

  4. Sharp October 7, 2016

Even though I can’t stand him, I have to admit that album was fire.

  5. S****** Blonde October 7, 2016

SexyBack is a classic, the kind of song that never gets old, the album is also a Pop/Urban masterpiece, I loved the whole era.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years Jesus where has all the time gone? I hate Timberlake, but Future S**/Love Sounds is not only his best album but it’s also a classic.

I’m happy for her. Had she released the album earlier she would have been eligible for next years Grammys and would have swept them too. 2018 is her year though.

      • HailLegendBeysus October 7, 2016

I thought she released in time for the 2017 Grammys?

      • Weezy Tha Goat/ Zayn is ? October 8, 2016

I doubt it. Maybe the rules will change for her Weeknd & Bruno. But I think they’re already picking out songs/albums for the categories.

@weezy Solanges album is eligible for the 2017 Grammys. She released it on the deadline which is Sept 30.

  9. Coolness October 7, 2016

His FS/LS era was EVERYTHING! Sure, he had his first taste of solo success with Justified but I think he truly gained legitimacy as an artist and performer with that album. Such a classic.

Justin Timberlake isn’t anything but an ignorant white privilege little dweeb that leeches off black producers and black culture and have the nerve to believe we are all the same and have equal opportunity. HA! If any black artists were white they would be bigger than what they are. FACTS!

    2006/2007 were FIRE!!
JT, XTINA & BEYONCE were rolling the music industry
Sad that is Xtina’s career is never the same since ..
hopefully she’ll comeback for her throne soon
