December 6th 2016 will deliver the hotly-anticipated nominations for the forthcoming Grammy awards.
Fortunately, fans of this year’s eligible nominees don’t have to wait until then to discover which categories they hope their material will soar in.
What Beyonce seems to have on the agenda?
Rock’n’Roll glory…
The singer’s latest album ‘Lemonade’ sees her glide through genres and motifs with close ties to African-American history.
One of these is Rock music.
Derived from Gospel, Jazz and R&B, the genre found a place on the aforementioned LP via the song ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’ which features portions lifted from the Blues song ‘When the Levee Breaks’, released by Memphis Minnie in 1929.
This song gave birth to the Led Zeppelin release of the same name.
Now, following in the footsteps of the Rockers of colour who came before her, Bey has reportedly submitted ‘Hurt’ to the Grammy committee with hopes they will place her in two Rock categories.
Nominations in the categories above would follow the success of her Country Blues number ‘Daddy Lessons.’
Recorded at The Beehive Studios, ‘Lessons’ was recently delivered at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards by the singer and The Dixie Chicks helping it to impact iTunes’ Top 20.
Can you see ‘Don’t performing as well as the Grammys?
