Report: Beyonce’s ‘Daddy Lessons’ Rejected By Grammy Country Committee

Published: Thursday 8th Dec 2016 by Sam

Beyonce made Grammy history on Tuesday. Indeed, not only is she leading the pack with 9 nominations, she veered into Michael Jackson territory with the noms secured.

See, not since MJ has an act scored honors in such a vast array of categories.

Queen Bey is up for all of the main awards (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year); she’s also listed across a host of different genres – Pop, Urban, and even Rock (for ‘Lemonade’ jam ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’).

One category she isn’t named in is Best Country.

Find out why below…

Billboard cites a source on the voting panel who claims that Bey’s formal submission for ‘Daddy Lessons’ was rejected by the Country board.

No additional details were provided, but the news comes after furore from some in the Country community following the singer’s performance of the song with the Dixie Chicks at last month’s CMAs.

Interestingly the awards aired November 2nd and the Grammy’s first ballot (aka: the vote that determines nominations) was due November 4th. As such, it’s entirely plausible to argue that the nonsensical drama surrounding her showing did affect her clout in the category.

Still, it’s unlikely Mrs Carter is losing any sleep. Her multiple nominations in other genres re-affirms the fact that she’s made her mark. Both with ‘Lemonade’ as a project and her career more broadly.

The 2017 Grammys airs February 12th 2017 on CBS.

    She still winning

    • Anne December 8, 2016

Completely agree, this is no big deal. Who’s gonna complain when she still has 9 nominations in multiple genres and is nominated in all the major categories. Although it arguably could have been placed in the country category, the song is not pure country and there’s no featured country artist. Still, it helps demonstrate the diversity of the album. Wonder how many other songs by other artists were rejected from specific categories (?), as usual, Beyoncé is the one who causes conversation though her song is surely not the only song to not have been chosen by a committee. 4 other songs from Lemonade were chosen in various categories and the album as a whole is the most recognized this year so I agree that she is not losing sleep over one nom.

    • Cory December 8, 2016

She wasn’t rejected. To say it was one of the 5 Best country songs of the year would be a stretch. Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood are nominated for Best Country Solo Performance. Though I find Beyonce to be a talented performer, lets stop handing her Grammy awards in categories she does not deserve. Much her like “Best Sound Engineer” win a few years ago.

    • Sebastian December 8, 2016

She’s not outselling Drake, she isn’t respected by the country and rock communities, she’s not getting hits, she’s not on the radio. But winning I guess

      • Cory December 8, 2016

I was just reading Billboard. I’m shocked “Formation” is even up for so many awards. It spent 7 weeks on the Hot 100. The accolades don’t really match her “success”.

      • Jemina Nelson December 8, 2016

      • gina December 8, 2016

charts dont matter to her because she buys her awards, thats why that flopmation mess got nominatewd so much.

      • F..bigheadrihannafans December 8, 2016

So sour bwhahaha. Hope Beyonce wins all so that u all can go and kill urself. Losers.

      • therealist December 9, 2016

Bey outsold drake in pure sales and killed with the formation tour. They factored all of that in. When drake surpasses her in pure sales and touring, then speak, until then, have a seat, and remember bey album isn’t streamed everywhere either. over 256 million (formation tour, and lets not for get the lemonade album is about 20 dollars so you do the math. You’re not dumb. And by the way I like drake and respect him as an artist but if youre gonna speak facts, make sure you speak all the facts. Bey is winning.

  2. Oh Sam December 8, 2016

Sam, this is a pointless write up. You had no juicy information from the inside. You deliver the basic beyonce news and write up an entire essay based on your obsession. Bro, like, haven’t you grown up yet? This is not real news at all. Why do I still come to this page is the real question lol

    • JOHNVIDAL December 8, 2016

      Truly pointless.

    • Josh December 8, 2016

Geez its an entertainment news website and Sam is jus doin his job. Try writing a single article like he does foo

      • Oh Sam December 8, 2016

Bro, an entertainment site, yes. Sam just doing his job, NO!
These write ups are equalivant to a person following a personal Instagram or a Facebook account. 90% of the time it is a personal dig at someone while overly praising another. It really is no different from the people on my personal timeline. The comments are more entertaining than the actual stories posted.

    • Danny Bey December 8, 2016

If you’ve been aware of Sam’s writing habits for a good amount of time I’m assuming since you have such an extensive negative analysis of it, you know that it’s free and costs absolutely nothing for you to NOT keep returning and reading these articles right? Unless you’re in prison and it’s part of your sentence that you have to keep coming to TGJ to read stuff you’re annoyed by. That’s the only
Logical explanation I can think of.

      • Oh please December 8, 2016

Oh please go somewhere with that negative outlook crap especially on this site. This is a site that was created for individuals to be informed about what is going on in the entertainment business. Instead of actual real stories, the owner instead puts his love for beyonce over his business and creates a bias platform that has more negative “outlooks” than this reply alone.
I am just a consumer expressing my disappointment in the product I was given even if it’s a blog that claims to be unbiased and entertainment based.

    • Supreme Diva December 8, 2016

But you all keep coming back to the website after routinely criticizing him? Apparently, Sam has done his job because you keep coming back for more. Thus, your “read” was pathetic.

    • oopsUPsideDaHead December 8, 2016

but you still come to the site…. SAM IS WINNING

    • Killian December 8, 2016

Why you here then??? Go to some other site period

  3. King December 8, 2016

Ha they are some haters getting headaches while bey sitting pretty unbothered.
She slayed the country music awards. Mind you Beyoncé been recorded daddy lessons years ago.
She slayed them with something that’s years old bye!

  4. JOHNVIDAL December 8, 2016

Hmm… maybe bacause she doesn´t have to be nominated for every single thing she does? Seriously! Congrats to her and to Adele. This year the nominations are so terrible that they are like the only artists that save the main categories. But still, they are far from the best musicians ever. The amount of nominations they always get is MORE THAN ENOUGH. In my opinion is exaggerated. So she´ll be fine if she doesn´t get one nomination for country too 🙂

    • Truth Serum December 8, 2016

      Save the back handed compliments

      Go away….

      • JOHNVIDAL December 8, 2016

It´s not back handed compliments. It´s reality. I swear I don´t understand how blind stans cannot accept any sane comment if it isn´t about praising their fave as the best thing ever. Beyonce didn´t need one more nomination for country. That´s all. Fact.

  5. Weezy Tha Goat/Zayn Is ? December 8, 2016

Who gives a f***? She’s the most awarded female artist and will probably take home AOTY this year.

    • Kii December 8, 2016

      This year?

  6. ??? December 8, 2016

I had a dream where she lost AOTY,SOTY And ROTY to Adele?

    • Pat December 8, 2016

I pray that dream comes true!

      • Danny Bey December 8, 2016

I pray that your mother loves you.

      • Jemina Nelson December 8, 2016

        A BABY!

    • gina December 8, 2016

just hope she doesn’t start writing extra checks to the grammy board lmao, thats the only way she can beat adele.

  7. Kitteneyez December 8, 2016

Hope she loses in every category she nominated in for thst boring s*** minute maid

  8. Kayla C December 8, 2016

This girl is so overrated. I swear if it wasn’t for the gay men that want to be her she would be nothing.

  9. Caribbean native December 8, 2016

    Rightfully so

  10. Pat December 8, 2016

    Lmaoo, f*** a beyonce!

  11. ???????Chile, take this “Itty Bitty Piggy” to the market and make sure you hold her hand while crossing the street!??????? December 8, 2016

That’s fine. Ms. Yonce is unbothered with her nomination in the Rock performance category. She’ll get a country nomination for sure with the next album. Carry on!

    • SMH December 8, 2016

Lmao as if she stands a chance at winning a Rock Grammy…

  12. Surprise..(DEC 2013) December 8, 2016

I don’e even believe this….DADDY LESSONS was not part of what she submitted for consideration.

    • HailLegendBeysus December 8, 2016

The Pitch Fork is reporting this as well.

  13. King B December 8, 2016

I thought it’s not submitted? But 9 noms are already too much tho.

  14. Truth Serum December 8, 2016

    It’s nothing new…

White people will try to hold on the genres they stole so long ago that’s dear to their hearts…

I’m glad she did try to submit it…

    She wasn’t playing this year…

    I hope she wins big…

    She’s a great talent…

    • bitchbegone December 8, 2016

OH stop trying to make this a race thing and go eat a sh!t covered d*** @Truth retared

  15. Truthtea December 8, 2016

If I was her….I would turn around and drop a full country album…let that b**** go platinum, that’s when you know you that b****..#fuckUptheGame
    #SwitchItUpOnEm. #TheyAintReady

    • SMH December 8, 2016

Country fans aren’t idiots like beyonce fans. If she tried dropping a country album, that sh*t would flop harder than LaToya Jackson’s country album lol.

      • bitchbegone December 8, 2016

ANd rih’s barely there walls and vocals

  16. Keri Qween December 8, 2016

Don’t hurt yourself being nominated is a joke as well. But she won’t win.

    • Danzou December 8, 2016

A scary Hilson Stan talking about jokes? Ha!

    • Molly #Stargirl December 8, 2016

      • Danzou December 8, 2016

        Agree on an identity h**

    • Mr.StLaurent December 8, 2016

“Don’t hurt yourself” is one of the best song from Lemonade

  17. SMH December 8, 2016

Guess the Country Association doesn’t participate in camp beyonce’s Pay-For-Accolade program.

  18. HiJamon December 8, 2016

Don’t compare her nominations to MJ!! She’s competing in today’s music, he was out when music was music and competition was fierce!! No shade to Beyonce, but music sucks now. The grammy committee has no real nominees. I mean Justin Bieber and Drake are nominated for AOTY! Taylor Swift won twice. None of these current nominees would have came close to those categories against the real musicians, not even Adele. Look at Mariah, Whitney, and Janet, they have timeless music, sales and ruled the 90’s, but only have 16 grammys between them. I don’t take the Grammys seriously anymore.

    • Hi Jamon December 8, 2016

It used to be exciting to see who won Best New Artist, now I don’t even know most, if not all the nominees!!

  19. Danzou December 8, 2016

    White people are trash.

  20. Danzou December 8, 2016

Rhianna didn’t get one for CKB so what else is new?

  21. cocobutta December 8, 2016

Well considering the amount of snubs particularly One Dance this is small fry.
Bey still proved she can do traditional country song and do it well.

    • Danzou December 8, 2016

There’s a bigger picture here babe.

      • cocobutta December 9, 2016

I know but fuuk em Danzou hun. There’s a reason no country music rules the top of the charts bar a very small minority of artist.
The industry knows what they’re about (fan base wise & song undercover musicians).

    • SMH December 8, 2016

      When did she prove that?

      • cocobutta December 9, 2016

Have a listen to the song and it’s country. But maybe not to the tone deaf and racially institutionalised members within that genres committee.
Versatility is a blessing & she showed it off on Lemonade.

  22. GurlWepa1989 December 8, 2016

Congrats to Bey for being nominated, especially the Big 3 categories. However for her being nominated for Rock is absurd!! Just because it features Jack White?

  23. S****** Blonde December 8, 2016

It’s not like she can afford to pay for every award, she has already spent a lot money in the other nominations, only she knows how much it cost to buy a Grammy.

    • Molly #Stargirl December 8, 2016

    • SMH December 8, 2016

Good point, her expense account was probably overdrawn from the other “nominations”.

      • Bryhmin December 8, 2016

Is that why her overall network is dwindling?

  24. Chile Please!!! December 8, 2016

Ahhhh she got chopped! “Hiii yah!” LOL! She trying grasp different genres of music, for the sake of “Universal Love” but the Country Folk was like…..Ohhh Hellz to the naw HEFFER! You keep in the barn producing that milk & eating hay…..cuz later you gon’ get butchered…..which is what subliminally happen. LMFAO!

  25. LOL December 8, 2016

  26. Bryhmin December 8, 2016

Why would she even submit for that category? In order to win under another genre than the one that you are known for your single has to be mega successful. Why did she even bother?

  27. Ilovemusic December 8, 2016

When her submissions were originally posted I don’t recall seeing Daddy Lessons submitted by her or her team for anything actually.
Is there a submission before the submissions?

  28. stardom December 8, 2016

S****** f****t & navy remain bitter helpless bi*ches. Why didn’t riri or jay buy her nominations/awards, why can’t others just buy their awards? this further proves beyonce’s mega star power if truly she buys these awards cos she must have so much money & is madly respected that her demands are always met.
Can someone name one song bigger than hello & formation and am not talking sales or chat. Can someone tell me if she’s not one of the very very few most talented & hardworking artist today? Can someone tell me a bigger artist than beyonce globally out now?

    • Haters Gon’ Hate December 8, 2016

^^^^^ EXACTLY – By the haters logic if she buys her awards WHY AREN’T OTHERS ARTISTS SWEEPING THE BOARD WITH WINS YEARS PAST??? You mean to tell me Beyoncé is the only artist the Grammy Comittee will allow to purchase awards from them????? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Miss me with that illogical ish haters – you just can’t accept that her material is critically acclaimed. As you were.

      • ?Yellow Diamonds? December 8, 2016

        @hail lol

    • SMH December 8, 2016

Lmao. Typical dumbasss beyonce fan logic. If you have to pay for your awards, your “talent” ain’t sh*t. You don’t see Adele, an even bigger artist globally than beyonce (check the sales numbers), buying awards and she can outsell beyonce in an hour.

    • Ilovemusic December 8, 2016

      Thats what I thought.

  29. HailLegendBeysus December 8, 2016

Anyway where is your BB year end list! So proud of Bey! She placed quite high on many list. Not bad for an album and singles that were apparently forgotten so easily lmao!
