Mariah Carey may have made headlines for all the wrong reasons at the top of the year, but that hasn’t dented her ability to book a gig.
The self-proclaimed elusive chanteuse reportedly earned a seven-figure pay-day from Russian billionaire Valery Koga to perform at the wedding of his granddaughter.
A mini-set of sorts, Carey’s showing seemed to down well with attendees. But a closer listen to what projected from the speakers has us a lil concerned for our girl.

Tackling songs such as ‘My All,’ ‘It’s Like That,’ and ‘Hero,’ Mimi seemed to struggle with many of the parts that weren’t pre-recorded:
We’re not vocal coaches, but we have ears enough to hear that Mariah needs one pronto.
Without making presumptions, perhaps she needs to take better care of her gift too. Because, for all the snippets of potential, she sounded like a whole lot of struggle for the most part.
We’re hoping she’ll have addressed her issues come the time for new material (and the live performances that’ll accompany for promo).
Instead of copy and pasted vocals from 1995 and excessive layering (see: ‘Me. I Am Mariah’ album), we’re hoping she embraces / accepts the good and challenging corners of her “new voice” so as to slay with the gift she still has.
Watching her reach for notes that won’t stick upsets us.
She needs to stop drinking and trying to perform… This is unacceptable.

It was a prior contracted gig. They didn’t just ask her to perform that morning.
That’s why I said she should have never ACCEPTED the gig. If I’m paying ANYTHING for a performance at the biggest event of my life, they better ACT enthused. I’m not trying to hear that BS excuse.
I disagree with your opinion. The people in the video were dancing to her music and having a good time. If she was so “tired and boring” why wasn’t the audience looking disappointed?
The “My All” part was the worst, remind me of how Whitney sounded during her last shows, she usually sounds great singing that song, don’t know what happens there.
A bad day. She ghas been doing well in all her tours from last year with taht song and Emotions and the live parts in general.
I know that she sounded great on tour, i watched the videos, but yeah probably a bad day or she was there for the money only, I mean, it was a wedding, can’t get more boring than that.

If you really like her you should know how her voice works. She´s doing fine, some days she´s more on point than others. This wasn´t especially good. That´s all.

It is not about the money. She is doing what she likes doing…singing. The people in the video seemed to be having a great time. Why people make a big deal out of nothing these days is stupid.
She sounds good considering all she has been through in the past year. National embarassment from being dumped by her fiance, Nick Cannon trying to squeeze her for money in exchange for signing divorce papers, having queen Nick spread their private business to the media and come out in full queen-ess post-breakup, doing an international tour, doing a vegas residency, and trying to stay in shape post 40 yo. I would say Mariah is doing great and is much stronger than she was in the past.
It’s funny that her stans wanna talk about other sinfers vocals, but have more excuses than Ciara have flops when Mooriah sounds a mess… or have no sound at all from a fail lip sync. Don’t @ me.
I’m convinced that Mariah is surrounded by yes men. You mean to tell me she’s been a train wreck vocally for all these years, and no one has told her to put the bottle down and take her gift seriously?
There is nothing wrong with a singer drinking. As long as she drinks water, the dehydration from the alcohol has almost zero damage. Mariah’s vocal problems are natural with age. All she needs is a vocal instructor that can rearrange her songs to fit the current state of her voice. Lots of older artists have done this and it worked great. You can’t belt like you did at 20 when you are closer to 50 so new arrangements make the songs fit your voice better. I think Mariah sings in full voice too much and that is why people criticize her too much instead of being appreciative that she is an old-school singer that does not mind actually sanging.
Let’s be honest – Mariah needs Walter Afanasieff back! I commend her for getting this far without him, but it’s time to go home…Walter can help her find a new approach…Mariah needs to find the vocal keys that work for her NOW, and put a new style to her compositions…she can still collaborate with others, but let Walter produce the majority of the album…Barbra Slaysand went #1 with Walter on her last TWO albums…went platinum with him on her Partners album…just go home Mimi…glad to hear she’s worked with Diane Warren recently tho! Cause Miss Warren has no problem telling a singer when they sound a hot ass mess lol

Mariah is contracted to do these performances so she’s honouring them. Now, the reality is that no one accept Mariah and her voice doctor knows how her instrument works and why she struggles when she struggles. We can all debate but its naive to blame every missed note on Dom Perignon when vocal tiredness is likely the cause. The human voice gets tired people.., most of the people commenting aren’t singers though so have no idea what effect that has on a singer’s sound.

it’s clear to see there’s an issue of some sort thats negatively effecting her vocal ability. Maybe time, age, stress, drinking who knows.
