Miley Cyrus On Leaving Hip-Hop: “I Can’t Listen To That Anymore”

Published: Sunday 7th May 2017 by David

Miley Cyrus has revealed why she has decided to part ways with the Hip-Hop scene after using its key players to push her album ‘Bangerz’ in 2013.

Hoping to venture into new creative ground with her new LP, the vocalist finds herself on the receiving end of talk that she is “culture vulture”, and is the latest in a long line of artists to steal elements from African-American Urban culture and kick it to the curb once done with it.

She told Billboard:

I love that new Kendrick [Lamar] song ‘HUMBLE.’: ‘Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks.’ I love that because it’s not, ‘Come sit on my ****, suck on my ****.’ I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much, ‘Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my ****’ — I am so not that.

Today, after coming under fire for blasting the same lyrical style she used to sell ‘Bangerz’, she has offered more insight into the latest chapter of her career.

When articles are read it isn’t always considered that for hours I’ve spoken with a journalist about my life , where my heart is, my perspective at that time, and the next step in my career. Unfortunately only a portion of that interview makes it to print, & A lot of the time publications like to focus on the most sensationalized part of the conversation. So, to be clear I respect ALL artists who speak their truth and appreciate ALL genres of music (country , pop , alternative …. but in this particular interview I was asked about rap) I have always and will continue to love and celebrate hip hop as I’ve collaborated with some of the very best! At this point in my life I am expanding personally/musically and gravitating more towards uplifting, conscious rap! As I get older I understand the effect music has on the world & Seeing where we are today I feel the younger generation needs to hear positive powerful lyrics! I am proud to be an artist with out borders and thankful for the opportunity to explore so many different styles/ sounds! I hope my words (sung or spoken) always encourage others to LOVE…. Laugh…. Live fully…. to be there for one another… to unify, and to fight for what’s right (human , animal , or environmental ) Sending peace to all! Look forward to sharing my new tunes with you soon! – MC

Ugh girl seriously!!! Hasn´t she seen HERSELF during her last era???? She did the most on that front and nobody forced her. She needed the attention. If it weren´t for taht I would agree with her on those type of lyrics.
Seriously, musically this girl is… useless and fake. One positive thing I can say about her is that she´s vegan and seems to actually care about the world.

Did you even what tf she said? Reread it again and this time TRY to comprehend what she said.

    • Dreazy Baby May 7, 2017

Lmaoooo Miley got her n!gga back and was like deuces! She was acting out cause her man left her ass! Rich white girls don’t handle breakups to well! They rebel and go the complete opposite direction

  3. I HATE BLACK and WHITE B****** May 7, 2017

And ppl wonder why nicki asked what’s good

    • JJ May 7, 2017

Right and Nicki was painted as the bad-guy. Miley is so fake and conveniently didn’t find anything offensive about her music or performance when she was sticking that foam finger between her legs, doing that rhythmless twerking, hunching all over Robin Thicke at the VMA’s, and slapping black girls on their asses.

    I love her post.

People change you know, our tastes in music changes too, I can’t stand Pop and Hip Hop music these days, just a bunch of nonsense with tired beats.

    • Patthepuss May 7, 2017

Same here. I’ve always been an R&B/Hip Hop baby but I’ve gravitated to sixties rock.

Well, We Can’t Stop (song, video, performance) has GOT to be one of the most reckless songs I’ve EVER heard, hip-hop or otherwise! The song was melancholy and borderline depressing, but effective and interesting…I wish Rihanna would’ve recorded We Can’t Stop cause Rih is unapologetic about her approach (and would have slayed DOWN btw)…I must admit, so many female artists will jack Rih’s swag but just don’t have the realness to keep it going…Rih at least comes across authentic in her controversy! Miley ran back home to Billy Ray lol…but do you, boo

I think if she’s sincere she won’t ever perform those songs again due to the lyrical content. We shall see. I hope she means it.

That washed up raccoon she’s wearing on her hea proves she’s a liar. Talking about animals rights and she scalped one to wear on her head. This dumb helfa ? she’s not doing HipHop anymore because that animal crap ? she tried to sell with her last EP went double wood. She just wanted attention. She doesn’t care how she gets it. She won’t be here years to come. People talk about Madonna, but when she did it at least she lived it. It had bits of authenticity. I’m sorry, not sorry! Mrs. raccoon won’t be missed. She’s talking about jumping on d***ks but wasn’t she doing just that? Thank God we won’t see her trying to twerk those used pancakes ? around.

Just because you think a lot of Hiphop is misogynistic & homophobic doesn’t make you racist it makes you truthful it’s what it is I think people just don’t want to think about that because they might come to the realization that there/you are a bad person to listen to such music

    • Caleb May 7, 2017

Who the hell was saying otherwise? Not sure what post you were even reading.

      • Belladonna May 8, 2017

I was talking to all the rude a*s people commenting Champion Hiphop & saying she’s stupid.

  9. BangBang May 7, 2017

I don’t blame her! That culture is a mess! I am getting so tired of the ignorant a** men chicken head men talking so bad about the women they are so eager to sleep with! It’s burning they been saying the same damn thing for 20 years now! Time to have a diffrent conversation!
But she’s kind of a mess too I don’t see how she is personally offeded when she practically promoting dressing like a 2$ h**! But hey go figure!

  10. IG: @mixedboy May 7, 2017

Sounds genuine to me. I’m tired of the horrible music that’s put out myself, no matter the genre.

    • The King Of Shade ? May 7, 2017

You can call it horrible but she didn’t make it any better. She jumped on that wagon ? and gave a pipen hot dish of it. Believe what you read if you want but people like me who work in this industry know better. Her sales went to hell with that last EP and her team was smart enough to scream “clean up” its smart but let’s not pretend she didn’t do it for attention. I’m all for it but don’t bash what you made worse.

      • XYZ May 8, 2017

Sales? It was a free download and free on soundcloud

To me this is another example of white privilege. Miley used hip hop music & artists associated with it to rebel. She wanted people to know she was no longer Hannah Montana and instead of making that declaration, she uses black music a black lifestyle to rebel and p*** people off and erase a clean image. Now that she got what she wanted out of it (i.e., publicity, notoriety, a successful album) she’s now back to a new and “cleaner” image. To me it’s not necessarily about evolving but is the idea that for some white people and women (similar to “Get Out”) the way to rebel is to things considered black.

  12. I can’t May 7, 2017

Vulgarity has always been commonplace in hip hop and obviously, given her time shaking her back and fcking a foam finger on television and riding blow up d***** on her tour, this is no epiphanic realization of that. Miley had no problem exploiting it when she needed the career boost. That’s what culture vultures do. They hijack the culture for profit and then dispose of it when it no longer benefits them.

  13. Mariah Carey May 7, 2017

And I can’t listen to YOU anymore dahhhling!

  14. OMG Logic!!! May 8, 2017

#DEATH @ using a Chesca Leigh video. No one takes that hoeux seriously. No comment on Viley Cyrus.

  15. Justafan May 8, 2017

Typical. Hopping onto the next trend….next.

  16. Justmeeeee May 8, 2017

Ok she has a right to her opiniin
    BUT

Did hip hop have anything to do with her swinging b*** naked on a wrecking ball ?

    AND

Why does she take all if her pictures with her tongue out ?

I don’t care for raunchy hip hop but she is extra hypocritical.

    Bye Miley
