Liam Payne‘s solo train pulled into Wembley Stadium today for the 2017 Capital FM Summertime Ball.
Opting to take residence in the “Urban” space, the 23-year-old recently released single ‘Strip That Down’ – which he performed for the 50,000 in attendance.
Backed by dancers and getting down to choreography himself, Payne is clearly trying. Is it enough, though? Watch below and let us know…
Sigh.
It’s odd because he’s hitting his marks, but he still makes for an uncomfortable watch. One look at his expression and it’s clear he’s counting every single step. Every one of them.
Elsewhere, the vocals are present but in scarily thin quantity.
Thus far, we’re yet to be convinced by this game of Justin Timberlake dress-up Liam is playing. Perhaps it’s this single, “him,” or both. Whatever the case, it’s not working. Yet.
?? that “dancing,” give it up, chile. Niall’s new single >>>>> 1D’s whole discography
I actually thought this was a good performance, better than I expected based on the write-up. He sang live and sounded okay, he engaged the audience at points, and he stayed in step with the choreography.
After watching the whole thing, I didn’t feel the performance was all that bad. The thing everyone has to keep in mind is that the Justin Timberlake comparisons aren’t fair, considering the fact that Justin came from a boy band that incorporated a lot of choreography in their videos, performances, and tours. 1D, by comparison, didn’t do nearly as much in regards to that, so I can understand why dancing may not be his forte, but at least he’s trying.
When I look at some of Zayn’s early solo performances, he didn’t always look 100% comfortable, which we later found out was as a result of his stage fright, so who’s to say Liam isn’t going through the same thing?
I’m not mad at him about this performance..
I personally thought that this was a mess from start to finish, if you’re not a dancer don’t be so energetic and if you’re not a strong singer either don’t be so energetic., just master one and run with it.
Not a bad performance at all. The song is just not that good. Liam has a fabulous range of vocal talent which is just wasted on this monotone melody.
