Just three weeks ago Lana Del Rey delighted fans when her fifth studio album, ‘Lust For Life,’ hit shelves and eventually the top of the Billboard 200 with sales equivalence of over 107,000. Besting rap acts Tyler the Creator and Meek Mill for the honor, the set’s dominance over album charts also granted it the honor of nabbing the 3rd best first week sales of a female album released this year (behind Katy Perry‘s ‘Witness’ and Lorde‘s ‘Melodrama’).
Sadly, like Perry (who experienced the biggest second week drop in history), Del Rey’s reign was short-lived to say the least…
In fact, in just week 2 the album dropped from #1 to #10 with a 75% sales decline. This week, its official third week reporting to the Billboard 200, the set has reported an additional 44% decline from last week (an overall 89% drop over three weeks).
While we await this week’s TGJ Chart Check to see exactly where it lands on the refreshed album charts, if final figures reported by HDD are any indication it will most likely be outside of the top 30. In other words, the album will have dropped from #1 to #30-something in just three weeks. Ouch!
Here’s hoping the project’s next single helps turn the tide for the ‘High by the Beach’ singer…

I’m more surprised that she’s still selling beyond 30k first week with the kind of music she makes, the fact that we even compares her to mainstream pop girls, says a lot about how successful she is.
She does not make any big promotions like other mainstream girls
no big singles no radio play no nothing
It’s already an accomplishment that she sells more than 100k
