Jussie Smollett may be known to most as Jamal Lyon from hit FOX series ‘Empire,’ but he’s also a musician in his own right.
With the recent release of debut album ‘Sum Of My Music,’ the multi-gifted talent stopped by ‘The Breakfast Club’ to promote the set.
More than a standard press slot, Smollett seized the moment to share his views on a host of topics including the fight to release music and the layered legalities attached to that, the nuances sexuality in the media, and much more.

He try’s to be so deep. He dismisses being gay so much to be black . Meanwhile the average black brother and sister don’t care for him because he is gay. Go back to sleep with that woke mess. The people you are defending are not defending you gay black man.
Good point, even his character on ‘Empire’ kinda does the same thing. Which is why I can’t take him on that show anymore.
I think he’s cute. Too bad he plays for the other team lol. Thw problem with many black gays is that they want their favs to act and say things exactly how they would or they wont suport. Beyonce is probably a black gay fave because they do not know her real personality so they are ablento project their idea of personality on her. Jussie has this grimlin charm thing going on and I think it is good he is doing other things outside of the show so he is not typecast. Congrats to all the Empire cast for getting renewed and special congrats to Jussie, Taraji, and Terre nice who keep getting projects outside of the show.

Sexuality isn’t the center of everyone’s life. Some of transcend beyond that. I’m gay and black and i’ve never felt the need to talk about my sexuality so much. It’s the smallest part of MY life and it might be the same for his also. As for being black – this is something i think about a lot more. Not everybody lives their life with their sexuality at the forefront of their mind friend.
This girl. The first 2 seasons of empire where we were FOOLED to think this girl had talent but later found out SHE has the vocal range of a SHEEP. The Music thing is a wrap stick to Gay Clubs and acting hunnie

I was about to say the same thing. I listened to the interview and i thought Jussie came across as credible. Its simply a shame that black gay men like us are forced to choose when we are clearly impacted by carrying two much despised identities. I like Jussie and wish him well…
