Leona Lewis took front stage centre at the 29th Annual National Memorial Day Concert last night.
Together with a gospel choir, the songbird nested on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol and belted out a stirring rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge over Troubled Water.’

Despite a few shaky moments, Ms. Lewis knocked it all the way out of the park by the end.
It’s been three years since her last album, so we’re more than ready for her return – especially after watching this.
For, we’d love to see her belting out her own material now she’s in better voice than has been the case in recent years.

I feel that you guys are being shady. That was a whole shaky moment, and she sounded terrible. Although not a fan, I have been surprised at her vocals as of late. She was on the voice with Jennifer and didn’t sound soon and now this.
For someone who has been on vocal rest for a few years I’m curious to know what’s causing the deterioration in her voice to such an extent.
I’m not poking fun forward to new music until the vocals are back and she gives me something more soulful.
I don’t really know how her and Alexandra dropped the ball music wise. The uk has some great singers but the music is rubbish.
I respect Leona’s vocal talent but this far into her career Leona has had ample opportunity to show us she has more to offer than technically proficient singing. At this point I don’t believe there is anything else there to justify another crack at the whip. Janet broke away and gave us ‘Control’, Mariah broke away and gave us ‘Butterfly’, Christina broke away and gave us ‘Stripped’, Kelly Clarkson broke away and literally gave us ‘Breakaway’. I’m not trying to be mean but what is Leona’s excuse?
I wish she dropped an emancipation type album
Absolutely valid point. She’s a ballad singer, but so is Mariah and she gave us Honey etc etc.
Be interesting to see what she comes back with as the last albums first song. The teasers were better than the song. I was waiting for an emelie sande big take me to church song…it nearly happened!
Sad that she has basically ended up a covers singer
