Janet Jackson‘s status as one of music’s most prolific artists continues to be saluted.
For, the legendary diva is receiving yet another honor and this time it comes courtesy of BMI, who’ve announced that the mother of one will be presented with their Icon honor at the 2018 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.

In a statement issued moments ago, organisers for the event – which celebrates the year’s top Urban songwriters, producers, music publishers and administrators – revealed Jackson as its highest honoree. The ceremony, which she is expected to attend, takes place on August 30th at The Woodruff Arts Center’s Symphony Hall in Atlanta.
Speaking on Jackson’s selection, BMI Vice President Of Creative Catherine Brewton said:
“As one of the most influential entertainers of all time, Janet Jackson’s artistry and music transcends generations and has inspired many with messages of empowerment that can be heard throughout her rich catalog of music. She is the definition of an icon, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor.”
The news comes after Jackson’s recent coronation with the “Icon” and “Impact” honors at the Billboard and Radio Disney awards respectively.
It also lands as she preps to set sail on the summer leg of her blockbuster ‘State Of The World Tour.’

I agree now is the time for new music. Janet is an icon and can stand alone, but to give her the push she needs with the young crowd, she needs a hot collaboration as the first single. It will definitely help introduce her to the young buyers of the music world. I want to see her with a hot 100 #1 or at least top 10. Feedback stalled at #19 and no sleeep at #63. However, she has been more public since leaving that man so I definitely have hope for the next album

This is awesome! But im worried about this tour with her father allegedly being on his death bed and if she will be available to receive this honor depending on if and when he passes. This could cause postponed dates again, but the situation will make for an incredible album…..hate to say it like that. The honor overdue is the rock and roll hall of fame
As a family fan, I am worried about Joseph and scheduling for everyone. The Jacksons are on tour also…It would be wonderful if her dad could see her inducted into the RRHOF. Even if she doesn’t care, her dad would be so proud!
