Missy shouldn’t have already gotten her Vanguard award. No reason why artist like (Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Britney, and Pink) already received theirs. Missy, Busta Rhymes, Janet, and Michael MADE MTV back in the day!
You can keep all those artists names but don’t touch Britney. She deserved that award more than anyone for her iconic videography. She WAS the video queen of the 90s and early 00s.

She deserved it before JT, Rihanna, Pink and Britney. She has some of the most innovative videos of all time and certainly better videos than all those mentioned and is co-signed by all legends. Not to mention the amount of classics she produced for herself, Lil Kim, Beyonce, 702, Mariah Carey, Aaliyah and the list goes on and on and on and on.

NONE of that is iconic. Maybe..MAYBE “my way”…he didn’t change pop culture with a video, no controversy, no iconic fashion takeaways that would be known today. Nothing. He has good videos of course; not saying he doesn’t..but there’s nothing iconic. People like Madonna, Michael, Britney, Janet, Missy..are types of people to receive this. The fact that every year now someone gets it, is watering down the importance of the award. It takes away the value.

Usher deserves the award when he has a comeback album. He fell off. I recognize his value but people need a refresher Usher course with new material. I think his last big era was about 15 years ago. Britney, Pink, and Justin had more recent good eras (Frame Fatal Tour / Vegas, Pinks last tour, and 20/20 album).
2010 with Raymond v. Raymond was a very big era for him and that wasn’t 15 years ago. It was 8.
